Between 1963 and 1965 Berwick was leader of the 21st Escort Squadron. During the Beira Patrol, she stopped and arrested SS Manuella for attempting to run the oil blockade of Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) on Easter 1966. Berwick was re-fitted with helicopter landing facilities in 1967.
From July 1975 to April 1976, she went around the world via the Suez and Panama canals. Other ships in the flotilla included Ajax, Plymouth, Llandaff, Rothesay and Glamorgan. Destinations included Gibraltar, Malta, Egypt (Port Said), India (Madras), Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia (Fremantle, Hobart and Sydney), New Zealand (Nelson and Timaru), Fiji, Samoa, Hawaii, California (San Diego and Long Beach), Panama and finally Curaçao.
In 1977, she attended the Silver JubileeFleet Review with sisterships Plymouth and Rothesay. At this time she was part of the 8th Frigate Squadron. Manpower shortages saw HMS Berwick transferred to the standby squadron in 1979 and conversion of the frigate to operate a towed array was scheduled, but didn't take place due to the Nott defence cuts and industrial action. Nevertheless the Falklands War saw Berwick reactivated in a couple of months, to conduct two successful post war tours with the South Atlantic task forces, in 1982-83. Her final years saw her active on West Indian training cruises, and she was paid off in 1985.
HMS Berwick was a merchantman launched in 1780 that the Navy purchased in 1781 to use as an armed supply ship. The Navy repaired in 1786, classified her as a sixth rate, and renamed her HMSSirius(1786). She was wrecked in 1790 after participating in the First Fleet, which transported convicts to Botany Bay, in Australia.
HMS Berwick was one of 10 Monmouth-classarmoured cruisers built for the Royal Navy in the first decade of the 20th century. She was assigned to the 2nd Cruiser Squadron of the Channel Fleet upon completion in 1903 and was transferred to the Home Fleet in 1906. She accidentally rammed and sank a British destroyer in 1908. Berwick was refitted in 1908–09 before she was transferred to the 4th Cruiser Squadron on the North America and West Indies Station later that year.
She captured a German merchant ship shortly after World War I began. The ship patrolled for German commerce raiders and escorted convoys for the war. Berwick was assigned to the 8th Light Cruiser Squadron in 1919 before she was paid off and sold for scrap in 1920.
Design and description
Berwick was designed to displace9,800 long tons (10,000t). The ship had an overall length of 463feet 6inches (141.3m), a beam of 66 feet (20.1m) and a deep draught of 25 feet (7.6m). She was powered by two 4-cylinder triple-expansion steam engines, each driving one shaft, which produced a total of 22,000 indicated horsepower (16,000kW) and gave a maximum speed of 23 knots (43km/h; 26mph). The engines were powered by 31 Niclausse boilers. She carried a maximum of 1,600 long tons (1,600t) of coal and her complement consisted of 678 officers and enlisted men.

Story of the Jacobite Rebellion
Hello! :D
Something a touch more personal in this video, as my ancestors fought at the Battle of Culloden Muir, though were unfortunately on the losing side.
Regardless, the Battle of Culloden was the culmination of nearly a half-century of sporadic fighting between Scottish rebels and the newly established government of the United Kingdom, as factions loyal to the House of Stuart sought to return their Scottish king to the English throne following his overthrow in 1688 by the Dutch-backed army of William of Orange and Queen Mary.
The result was a prolonged series of clashes supported by various foreign powers out of convenience and distraction during wider European wars, the Jacobites gaining some surprising victories, but were ultimately unable to regain the British throne due to a la...
