The History of the Eurasian Steppe 1
While many have not heard of the region of the world known as the Eurasian Steppe, this region has had a profound impact on the course of human civilization, giving birth to various cultures which would branch out from their original homeland, and go on to create and impact many of the nations and empires which have shaped the history of the world

The First Horse Riders | Horse Domestication on the Eurasian Steppe
Who were the first horse riders in history? We know about horse domestication but knowing who were the first horsemen is more difficult.
The idea of the Yamnaya Bronze Age horse warrior riding down a fleeing Neolithic farmer is a powerful image but is it true?
Were the people of the Botai culture the first horsemen? Was it those of the Sredny Stog or perhaps the Khvalynsk culture? Or was it even the people of Bronze Age Mesopotamia?
Well, there is a view that the first horse warriors did not emerge until the Iron Age.
In this video we will explore both sides of the argument using the most up to date evidence available.

Far in the east, there lies an almost limitless, almost boundless, almost unending stretch of land. People call it The Wild Fields, the vast grassy steppe that stretches all the way from Ukraine to Mongolia. The Wild Fields were home to many free spirited and tough nomadic people. Though different from one another, they were linked intricately by their ways of life, the life of nomads. Many legends surfaced from this sea of grass in the east like the female warriors of the Amazons – and indeed women in the nomadic societies of the steppe lived their lives very differently from the ...

A Journey through the Eurasian Steppe Belt
This is a sequel to my video from earlier this year. From the Easternmost coast of Korea along the Great Wall of China and through the Mongolian Steppe all the way to the Crimean peninsula, Eurasia was home to one of the largest steppe empires in history. But what did it feel like to wander around these regions? Would you see free-roaming horses in beautiful formations? Was the water of Lake Baikal cleaner then it is today? And how many forests where to be found?

The Khazars - Jewish Turkic Nomads Of The Eurasian Steppe
The Eurasian steppe has been a fractious region throughout much of history, but it has also given rise to some of the largest and most powerful political empires ever known. The early medieval period was no exception, as an endless variety of tribes and nations struggled to assert their dominion over the vast plains and grasslands. Against this backdrop, the Khazars emerged north of the Black and Caspians seas, establishing a powerful state with a decentralised administration, becoming rich off the silk road trade caravans which passed through their realm. Curiously, the Khazars were also notably religiously tolerant, and it appears that they even converted to Judaism - if true, this would make Khazaria one of only two Jewish states to exist from the fall of the Second Temple in 70 AD to t...

The history of the steppe people is often overlooked. Mainstream history often neglects how much of an impact steppe people of various ethnic and linguistic backgrounds had on the culture and demographics of today.

Many legends surfaced from this sea of grass in the east like the female warriors of the Amazons – and indeed women in the nomadic societies of the steppe lived their lives very differently from the women in sedentary states. For the sedentary states and empires bordering the steppes, these nomadic steppe peoples usually were not a threat — unless they combined their strengths for a common cause or under the leadership of a charismatic Khan . United, their raids devasted the border regions and could even bring the most powerful of empires to its knees. Be it China in the east, Persia in the south, the Byzantine Empire in the west or the Kievan state in the north they all had their encounters with the power of the steppe people one way or another at some point in time. In this video we paint a picture of how these peoples lived, how they formed some of the most dangerous armies of the world and what could be done to counter them. This is the world of the eastern steppe.

The Eurasian steppe has been a fractious region throughout much of history, but it has also given rise to some of the largest and most powerful political empires ever known. The early medieval period was no exception, as an endless variety of tribes and nations struggled to assert their dominion over the vast plains and grasslands. Against this backdrop, the Khazars emerged north of the Black and Caspians seas, establishing a powerful state with a decentralised administration, becoming rich off the silk road trade caravans which passed through their realm. Curiously, the Khazars were also notably religiously tolerant, and it appears that they even converted to Judaism - if true, this would make Khazaria one of only two Jewish states to exist from the fall of the Second Temple in 70 AD to the foundation of Israel in 1948.
A short history mini-documentary covering the history of the Khazars.
