At the 2011 Australian Census the region recorded a total population from the six local government areas of 233,931.
Industry
Economically, Central Queensland is an important centre of primary industries, particularly for food and fibre production. Central Queensland includes the Bowen Basin which is rich in high quality coking coal, the Port of Gladstone produces 40% of the state's export earnings, the Fitzroy River is the second-largest river system in Australia and commands significant water resources such as Fairbairn Dam. Gladstone has a significant aluminium smelter.
Located within the Fitzroy River basin, the Don River rises in the Don River State Forest below Black Mountain and flows generally west, then southwest, than west, joined by twelve tributaries. The river reaches its confluence with the Dawson River north of Baralaba. The Don River descends 175 metres (574ft) over its 165-kilometre (103mi)course. From source to mouth, the river is crossed by the Burnett Highway and the Leichhardt Highway.
High salinity levels have been recorded at the mouth of the river. Land use in the upper catchment is mostly beef cattle production with crops grown in the richer soils downstream.
The highest recorded flood was in 1970 when the river reached 7.25 metres (23.8ft) at the Bowen Pumping Station. The river delta is particularly vulnerable to flooding during cyclones.
The Don (Russian:Дон;IPA:[don]) is one of the major rivers of Russia. It rises in the town of Novomoskovsk60 kilometres (37mi) southeast of Tula (120km south of Moscow, and flows for a distance of about 1,950kilometres (1,220mi) to the Sea of Azov.
From its source, the river first flows southeast to Voronezh, then southwest to its mouth. The main city on the river is Rostov on Don. Its main tributary is the Seversky Donets.
The Don basin is situated between the Dnieper basin to the west, the Volga basin to the east, and the Oka basin (tributary of the Volga) to the north.
History
In antiquity, the river was viewed as the border between Europe and Asia by some ancient Greek geographers. In the Book of Jubilees, it is mentioned as being part of the border, beginning with its easternmost point up to its mouth, between the allotments of sons of Noah, that of Japheth to the north and that of Shem to the south. During the times of the old Scythians it was known in Greek as the Tanaïs (Τάναϊς) and has been a major trading route ever since. Tanais appears in ancient Greek sources as both the name of the river and of a city on it, situated in the Maeotian marshes.
Pliny gives the Scythian name of the Tanais as Silys.
Queensland (abbreviated as Qld) is the second-largest and third-most-populous state in Australia. Situated in the north-east of the country, it is bordered by the Northern Territory, South Australia and New South Wales to the west, south-west and south respectively. To the east, Queensland is bordered by the Coral Sea and Pacific Ocean. Queensland has a population of 4,750,500, concentrated along the coast and particularly in the state's South East. The state is the world's sixth largest sub-national entity, with an area of 1,852,642km2. The capital and largest city in the state is Brisbane, Australia's third largest city. Often referred to as the "Sunshine State", Queensland is home to 10 of Australia's 30 largest cities and is the nation's third largest economy.
Doug is a factory worker living in Melbourne who dreams of moving from Melbourne to Queensland. He attempts to reconnect with an old flame, Marge, and move to Queensland together.
John Ruane says he was inspired by a newspaper article about a slaughter man who killed his de facto wife and then got drunk for two days. He decided to remove the killing aspect, concentrate on the relationship. Ruane:
The film was made with money from the Experimental Film and Television Fund while John Ruane was a film student at the Swinburne College of Technology in Melbourne.
Release
The movie was released through the co-operative movement.

FOSSIKING FOR GEMS in Central Queensland , Australia
Gem fossicking has been on my list for a while and the trip was a must to visit two small towns in Central Queensland.
I have experienced gold panning after growing up in Kalgoorlie in Western Australia but had no idea on what you would look for when panning for Gems.
We headed into Central Queensland towards Emerald a small coal mine 4 hours drive away. It was already hitting 38 degrees at 10 am so we knew it was going to be a hot one.
We stayed in Emerald for 1 night and after a bit to eat headed towards Rubyvale and Sapphire small gem towns only 40 minutes out of Emerald.
Most of the places had closed for the summer months but there was a tourist gem centre open called Pats Gems.
They demonstrated how to pan, what to look for when looking for coloured gems.

They demonstrated how to pan, what to look for when looking for coloured gems.
You are given a bucket of dirt a sieve and tweezers and basically left to go through your bucket of dirty in the hope of finding a gem.
Although we didn’t find anything big enough to brag about , we came home with a few small stones and the experience we can recall to our friends.
If you are travelling in the Central part of Queensland we would recommend to make the extra trip to try this.
