Syrian rebels capture Damascus, saying President Assad has fled | BBC News
Syrian rebel forces have entered Damascus amid reports that President Bashar al-Assad has fled the country by plane for an unknown destination after 13 years of civil war.
Prime Minister Mohammed al-Jalali says he is ready to support continuity of governance in the country.
It comes only 12 days after the Islamist militant group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and allied factions launched a major offensive in the north-west.
The rebels first captured the second city of Aleppo and then swept southwards down the highway to the capital as the Syrian military collapsed.

Syria's capital of Damascus is widely considered as the oldest continuously inhabited city on earth, with evidence of habitation dating back (at least) 11,000 years. For all you math wizards out there, that's about 10,000 B.C.!
This is largely due to the unique positioning of the city -- in the heart of the Middle East, in the center of the world and at the intersection of 3 continents. Damascus was conquered by Alexander the Great in 333 BCE, and since then, it's been taken over by dozens of empires such as Roman, Arab and Ottoman.

One thing that I didn't mention much in the video is about how SAFE it is in Damascus. I can't speak yet for the rest of Syria, but as far as this city goes (in this current day), I feel extremely safe just like I do in any other big city around the world.

Methuselah and the Damascus Prophecy - Isa. 17
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, " BUT THE RIGHTEOUS man SHALL LIVE BY FAITH."”

Iraqi food making kebabs from lamb is the most popular street food
Kebab is a widely available food in Iraq and in general street food. It is prepared from minced lamb. In some places, lamb and beef are minced with fat using grilled skewers and grilled over charcoal or wood. In many countries, kebabs are called "grills". The origin of kebab is an Aramaic word. The origin of kebabs goes back to the famous Aleppo kitchen, where the people of Aleppo were the first to prepare kebabs. History records the people of Aleppo's fondness for many types of grills and their uniqueness with the types of luxurious kebabs that have spread in many countries. It has its own flavor in Iranian street food, for example, saffron is added to lamb and beef before grilling over charcoal. The varieties and seasoning methods of Turkish street food differ from city to city. There is...

Israel Trip - 2023 - Day 11 (Via Dolorosa, Mt of Olives, Golgotha, Garden Tomb)
The Via Dolorosa is not one street, but a route consisting of segments of several streets. One of the main segments is the modern remnant of one of the two main east-west routes (Decumanus Maximus) through the Roman city of Aelia Capitolina, as built by Hadrian. Standard Roman city design places the main east-west road through the middle of the city, but the presence of the Temple Mount along much of the eastern side of the city required Hadrian's planners to add an extra east-west road at its north. In addition to the usual central north-south road (Cardo Maximus), which in Jerusalem headed straight up the western hill, a second major north-south road was added down the line of the Tyropoeon Valley; these two cardines converge near the Damascus Gate, close to the Via Dolorosa. If the Via ...

The Hidden History Of The Albanians Part 2
#Illyrians #Illyria #Berber
The Hidden History of the Albanians part 2 continues further into in-depth examination of Albanian history. It covers the arrival of the corsair pirates who were Berbers of north Africa that settled around various places in Albania, Along with the arrival of Saracen Berbers from Lucera, Italy. These North African Berbers would contribute vastly to the ethnogenesis of today's Albanian nation especially through linguistics, culture, and genetics. This topic is something that has been covered very little in today’s mainstream Albanian history.
In 1205, Durres fell under the rule of the Republic of Venice and then the Duchy of Durazzo was founded. Meanwhile in Italy In 1224 however, Frederick II, responding to religious uprisings in Sicily, expelled all Muslim...

The Free Palestine Movement (Arabic: حركة فلسطين حرة) is a Palestinian Syrian armed movement and community organization that is led by the businessman Yasser Qashlaq and supports the Ba'athist government of Syria. The organization opposes the existence of Israel, and was mostly known for political activism and social services in favor of Palestinians in Syria and the Gaza Strip before 2012. Upon the outbreak of the Syrian Civil War, however, the Free Palestine Movement formed its own militias and has since then openly fought for the Syrian government against various rebel groups.he Free Palestine Movement was founded by Yasser Qashlaq, a Syria-born Palestinian businessman of considerable wealth[2] who heads several organizations including the Lebanese Institute of International Studies, the Syrian-Palestinian Investment House, the Palestinian Businessmen's Club, and also owns a small Lebanese newspaper.[4] Furthermore, Yasser is known for his antisemitic views, having repeatedly called Jews "dregs of European garbage", a "gang of criminal murderers",[3] and "human pieces of filth"[5] that should be deported to Europe.[3][5] He has also stated that there is "no reason for coexistence" between Israelis and Palestinians, as the latter would reclaim their lands and "hunt [the Israelis] down to the end of the world, and prosecute them for their massacres".[3] Though close to the Syrian government,[2][4] Yasser has denied any links with Hezbollah.[6]
When Yasser first became politically active in the Palestinian Yarmouk Camp of Damascus in 2003, he consequently presented himself as supporting the Second Intifada. Since then, he organized the Free Palestine Movement as community organization which provided social services for Palestinians in Syria and rallied support for the Baa'athist government. Atlantic Council expert Tom Rollins also argued that the organization serves as "vehicle for [Yasser Qashlaq's] political ambitions".[2] According to Qashlaq, the Free Palestine Movement took part in organizing the Freedom Flotilla II for the Gaza Strip in 2010/11.[3][7] The group armed itself in 2011, with the news site Syria Indicator arguing that this was motivated by the need to suppress anti-Assad protests in the Yarmouk Camp.[8]
Syrian Civil War
The unit uses both the flag of Palestine as well as the Ba'athist flag of Syria[9]
After the Syrian Civil War's start, the Free Palestine Movement began to recruit for pro-government militias and founded its own paramilitary wing, the "Al-Aqsa Shield Forces" in 2012. The Al-Aqsa Shield Forces mostly operate in Damascus,[2] especially after an informal power-sharing agreement between the Free Palestine Movement and Fatah al-Intifada, another pro-government militia, in 2016. According to this agreement Yasser Qashlaq paid Fatah al-Intifada a substantial sum for handing over parts of their frontline at the Yarmouk Camp to the Free Palestine Movement. In consequence, Yasser and his movement could gain "valuable political capital" as defenders of Yarmouk which is of great symbolic importance to the Palestinian diaspora, while Fatah al-Intifada got much-needed funds.[2] Since then, the Free Palestine Movement mostly fought the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant militants in Yarmouk Camp,[10] notably participating in the Southern Damascus offensives of March[11][12] and April and May 2018.[13][14] In the latter operation the organization's military commander, Saed Abd Al-Aal, was wounded in combat.[15] Fighters of the Free Palestine Movement have also fought in other areas of Damascus, including at Harasta in August 2017[16] and at al-Shaghour during the Rif Dimashq offensive of early 2018.[17]
Though the Free Palestine Movement's activity is mostly concentrated in Damascus, the organization is known to have committed forces to fronts in other regions of Syria as well. In a notable incident in May 2013, the "Abd al-Qadir al-Husayni Battalions", another armed group affiliated with the movement, fired two mortar shells at Israel Defense Forces positions on Mount Hermon. This was reportedly done in commemoration of Nakba Day.[18][19] Troops of the Free Palestine Movement also operated in Hama in late 2017,[20] and fought in the Battle of Deir ez-Zor (September–November 2017).[21].

Candy, also called sweets or lollies, is a confection that features sugar as a principal ingredient. The category, called sugar confectionery, encompasses any sweet confection, including chocolate, chewing gum, and sugar candy. Vegetables, fruit, or nuts which have been glazed and coated with sugar are said to be candied.
Physically, candy is characterized by the use of a significant amount of sugar or sugar substitutes. Unlike a cake or loaf of bread that would be shared among many people, candies are usually made in smaller pieces. However, the definition of candy also depends upon how people treat the food. Unlike sweet pastries served for a dessert course at the end of a meal, candies are normally eaten casually, often with the fingers, as a snack between meals. Each culture has its own ideas of what constitutes candy rather than dessert. The same food may be a candy in one culture and a dessert in another. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candy

The name kebab comes from the ancient Syrian Aramaic word "kababu", which means burning and charring. In the 14th century, the word was used to denote the method of grilling ground meat spherically in street food. The word shish kebab also refers to grilled cuts of meat that are grilled on a skewer (shish means skewer). Kebab in Syria in general and in Aleppo in particular is distinguished by its unique taste due to the quality of the luxurious Syrian lamb with a distinctive taste and because of the good pasture where the city of Al-Bab in Aleppo and the city is famous for its fertile pastures that produce sheep and cows with luxurious meat, where the meat of these sheep forms the backbone of most dishes In the Halabi kitchen, including the famous Aleppo kebab, where the people of Aleppo prepare it in many ways, either without additives. And the mint and the mixture is destroyed and it is called kebab al-khakhsh. Kebabs are spread in various countries of the world, especially in the Middle East countries such as Iraq, Turkey, Egypt, Greece, Syria, Jordan, Cyprus, Lebanon, Palestine and

In the Western world, the word is used to denote barbecue on skewers in street food, such as veggie kabob, which is a grilled vegetable, or corn-chicken kabob, which is minced chicken skewers topped with sweetened cornmeal that is grilled in street food.
mix it up
The mixture of kebabs in street food varies from country to country. In North American street food, roast lamb is covered in a sugary nutty sauce. In street food Greece and Turkey, kebabs are seasoned only with pepper and salt. In the street food of Lebanon, lightly greased lamb is purified to give it a special flavor and mixed with the meat. The Syrian street food is famous for the Aleppo kebab, which is very popular in many countries. The city of Aleppo is characterized by the types of Aleppo kebabs that are more and more diverse, and have their own mixture and distinctive delicious taste.
its types
Kebab or kofta, which is minced lamb meat with spices and some vegetables such as parsley and onions. In Lebanon, veal is mixed with lamb to impart a distinct creamy flavour.
Shish kebabs are meat cubes stacked on a skewer and grilled over charcoal. Vegetables such as onions, peppers or zucchini can be added. In Syria and Palestine (disambiguation) pieces of fat are added from the tail of the sheep (the game)
Vegetable kebab: It is a street food grill to cut vegetables such as zucchini, tomatoes, eggplant, onions and peppers of all kinds, red, yellow and green.
Orfali grilled meat kebab with eggplant.
Aleppo kebab. And parsley and garlic can be added to the mixture of minced meat for kebab, and it is called - in Aleppo - “kebab”.
In Iran and Iraq street food, parsley is not added to the mixture.
Sometimes sumac is sprinkled over kebabs, as in Syria and the streets of Iraq.
Nutritional information for kebab kofta
Kofta Kebab is prepared with meat, onions, chili paste, salt, cornbread and parsley. Yogurt and mashed tomatoes are used to prepare the sauce. According to the Shahiya website, a kebab meal contains approximately 150 grams of the following nutritional information

Alī ibn al-Ḥusayn Zayn al-ʿĀbidīn (Arabic: علي بن الحسين زين العابدين), also known as al-Sajjād (ٱلسَّجَّاد, lit. 'the one who is constantly prostrating in worship') or simply as Zayn al-ʿĀbidīn (lit. 'ornament of worshippers'), c. 4 January 659 – c. 13 October 713, was an Imam in Shiʻi Islam after his father Husayn ibn Ali, his uncle Hasan ibn Ali, and his grandfather, Ali ibn Abi Talib.
Ali ibn al-Husayn survived the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE, after which he and the other survivors were taken to Yazid I in Damascus. He was eventually allowed to return to Medina, where he led a secluded life with a few close companions. He devoted his life to prayer and was regarded as an authority on law and hadith. Some of his supplications are collected in Al-Sahifa al-Sajjadiyya (lit. 'the scripture of Sajjad'), which is highly regarded by the Shia.[10] He adopted a quiescent attitude towards the Umayyads and is seen by the Shia community as an example of patience and perseverance when numerical odds are against them.[11]

If the Via Dolorosa had continued west in a straight line across the two routes, it would have formed a triangular block too narrow to construct standard buildings; the decumanus (now the Via Dolorosa) west of the Cardo was constructed south[dubious – discuss] of its eastern portion, creating the discontinuity in the road still present today.[citation needed]
The first reports of a pilgrimage route corresponding to the Biblical events dates from the Byzantine era; during that time, a Holy Thursday procession started from the top of the Mount of Olives, stopped in Gethsemane, entered the Old City at the Lions' Gate, and followed approximately the current route to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre;[4] however, there were no actual stops during the route along the Via Dolorosa itself.[2] By the 8th century, however, the route went via the western hill instead; starting at Gethsemane, it continued to the alleged House of Caiaphas on Mount Zion, then to Hagia Sophia (viewed as the site of the Praetorium), and finally to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

Golgotha - "Golgotha" redirects here. For other uses, see Golgotha (disambiguation) and Calvary (disambiguation).
Not to be confused with cavalry.
Traditional site of Golgotha in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre
Calvary (Latin: Calvariae or Calvariae locus) or Golgotha (Greek: Γολγοθᾶ, translit. Golgothâ) was a site immediately outside Jerusalem's walls where, according to Christianity's four canonical gospels, Jesus was crucified.[1]
Since at least the early medieval period, it has been a destination for pilgrimage. The exact location of Calvary has been traditionally associated with a place now enclosed within one of the southern chapels of the multidenominational Church of the Holy Sepulchre, a site said to have been recognized by the Roman empress Helena, mother of Constantine the Great, during her visit to the Holy Land in 325.
The Garden Tomb (Arabic: بستان قبر المسيح, Hebrew: גן הקבר, literally "the Tomb Garden") is a Christian pilgrimage site in Jerusalem that contains an ancient tomb, also named the Garden Tomb, considered by some Protestants to be the empty tomb from whence Jesus of Nazareth resurrected. This belief contrasts with an older tradition according to which the death and resurrection of Jesus occurred at a site known as the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. The Garden Tomb is adjacent to a rocky knoll known as Skull Hill. In the mid-nineteenth century, some Christian scholars proposed that Skull Hill is Golgotha, where the Romans crucified Jesus. Accordingly, the Garden Tomb draws hundreds of thousands of annual visitors, especially Evangelicals and other Protestants.[1][2][3]

#Illyrians #Illyria #Berber
The Hidden History of the Albanians part 2 continues further into in-depth examination of Albanian history. It covers the arrival of the corsair pirates who were Berbers of north Africa that settled around various places in
Albania, Along with the arrival of Saracen Berbers from Lucera, Italy.
Meanwhile in Italy In 1224 however, Frederick II, responding to religious uprisings in Sicily, expelled all Muslim Berbers from the island, transferring many to the fortress of Lucera over the next two decades.
Not long after the death of Charles the 1st, The city of Lucera was sacked in 1300 by Catholic forces under the command of Charles II of Naples. The city's Muslim Berber inhabitants were exiled or sold into slavery, with many finding asylum in Albania across the Adriatic Sea. This introduced another wave of Berber-Arab migration in the land of Albania.
John VI Kantakouzenos, Greek nobleman, statesman, and general, stated that various migrants began to flood the region of Albania in the early 14th century, all originating from the port of Durres. This coincides with the fall of Lucera and the arrival of the Berber-Saracen refugees in the land of Albania.
Interestingly enough, Ottoman Traveller and Historian Evliya Celebi recording his commentary in his book of travels called Seyâhatnâme mentioned the franks. Travelling through southern Albania in 1670, Ottoman traveller Evliya Celebi (1611-1684) recounts the legend of the Arab sheikh Jabal-i Alhama, who fled to the mountains of Kurvelesh in Albania and died in Elbasan. According to Evliya, he is the father of some of these tribes of Albania. Evliya Celebi also stated that the Albanian language was formed through a mixture of Frankish-Arabic. The Frankish element would have been introduced earlier from the arrival of the Normans as well as the mercenaries of George Maniakes.
"Among the Albanians still persist the names Cabires and Mardaites, the Chaonians or Liap still call themselves Kurvelies, and the mountaineers of Scodra, Mirdites. As we shall see, the modern Kurvelies were also designated by the Byzantines under the name of the Mardaites."
Sathas, K.N. (1890). Documents inédits relatifs à l'histoire de la Grèce au Moyen âge publiés sous les auspices de la Chambre des députés de Grèce
According to medieval texts, Justinian II (in 690s) relocated a large number of Mardaites to the southern coast of
Asia Minor, particularly Pamphylia, Lycia and Cilicia. Later on, in the 9th century, Mardaites moved to the themes of the Peloponnese, Epirus (including Acarnania, Aetolia) and Cephalenia.
An in-depth examination at the term Arnaut is provided, linking it with the Turkish term Bashi-Bazouks and mercenary. Arnaut is a term that has become later falsified in mainstream history to represent someone of Shqiptar Albanian origin but in fact it was a term that corresponded to a mercenary and especially a hired soldier from the region of Arnavutluk, the Turkish term for Albania. These soldiers were not ethnically Shqiptars but actually came from many different ethnic backgrounds.
We explore the history of the north African Corsair that were used as navy fleets by the Ottomans. These north African Corsair pirates would explore the coasts of Albania and would settle in certain various regions around Albania, Greece and Montenegro. They would be known for pillaging, stealing and raiding.
Berber cultural traits have been found amongst today's Albanians such as the Tagelemust headwear, which is not found in any neighbouring country within the Balkan region or Anatolia. Along with Y-DNA North African genes present amongst some Albanians today as well as Berber words found in the Albanian language, these are all undeniable evidence of Berber influence that exists amongst the Albanians of today.

The Hidden History of the Albanians part 2 continues further into in-depth examination of Albanian history. It covers the arrival of the corsair pirates who were Berbers of north Africa that settled around various places in
Albania, Along with the arrival of Saracen Berbers from Lucera, Italy.
