A Chi site or Chi sequence is a short stretch of DNA in the genome of a bacterium near which homologous recombination is more likely than expected to occur. Chi sites serve as stimulators of DNA double-strand break repair in bacteria, which can arise from radiation or chemical treatments, or result from replication fork breakage during DNA replication. The sequence of the Chi site is unique to each group of closely related organisms; in E. coli and other enteric bacteria, such as Salmonella, the sequence is 5'-GCTGGTGG-3'. The existence of Chi sites was originally discovered in the genome of bacteriophage lambda, a virus that infects E. coli, but is now known to occur about 1000 times in the E. coli genome.
In 2004 the circulation of Chi was 524,482 copies. The magazine had a circulation of 503,984 copies in 2007. In 2010 its circulation was 403,599 copies.
Photo of Princess Diana
The magazine came under criticism for publishing a picture of Princess Diana, taken as she was dying. The photo, which is black-and-white, depicts Diana receiving oxygen in the wreckage of the vehicle in which she died on 31 August 1997. The picture, which was also run with black bars across the Princess's face in the British newspaper The Sun, was taken from the book Lady Diana: L'enquete criminelle by Jean-Michel Caradec'h. Despite the criticism, the editor of the magazine defended their decision to publish it.
chiwen 螭吻 (with "mouth; lips") "a roof ornament shaped like a dragon", compare the homophonous variant 鴟吻 (with "owl; hawk")
chishou 螭首 or chitou 螭頭 (both with "head") "an architectural adornment; gargoyle"
panchiwen蟠螭文 (with "coiled" and "pattern") "carved patterns of sinuous dragons (esp. on pillars/bronzes)"
chibi 螭陛 (with "palace steps") "steps of the imperial palace; the Emperor"
Note that the following discussion of the word chi 螭's written forms and etymological origins requires using some jargon linguistics and sinology. See also 9 sons of the dragon.
A website, also written as web site, or simply site, is a set of related web pages typically served from a single web domain. A website is hosted on at least one web server, accessible via a network such as the Internet or a private local area network through an Internet address known as a uniform resource locator (URL). All publicly accessible websites collectively constitute the World Wide Web.
Web pages, which are the building blocks of websites, are documents, typically written in plain text interspersed with formatting instructions of Hypertext Markup Language (HTML, XHTML). They may incorporate elements from other websites with suitable markup anchors. Web pages are accessed and transported with the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), which may optionally employ encryption (HTTP Secure, HTTPS) to provide security and privacy for the user of the web page content. The user's application, often a web browser, renders the page content according to its HTML markup instructions onto a display terminal.

SITA was created in 1919 to modernise domestic waste collection in Paris and to cope with the rapid rise in the volume of domestic waste generated by Parisians.

Welcome to Chi Phat Community Based Ecotourism site Cambodia
Chi Phat is Cambodia’s premier Community Based Ecotourism (CBET) site. The community is located in the Southern Cardamoms National Park, surrounded on all sides by lush rainforest. Tourists come for the rich biodiversity. At Chi Phat, you can explore the Cardamoms, one of the last large rainforests in Southeast Asia. But Chi Phat was not always a dream ecotourism destination. The village was once a hub for illegal logging and hunting.
ON Sovann, an ex poacher remembers this well. "I was a hunter, mostly I am putting out snares to catch all the wild animals on their way to drink from the rivers at night." For On, there was little choice but to hunt. "I went hunting to earn income to help support my parents."
Life was tough – there were no roads or electricity, and access to education was limited, so people turned to the forest for survival. Every year, huge swathes of precious rainforest were burned to make way for farms in a process known as slash and burn agriculture. Snares were laid to catch animals big and small for food and the illegal wildlife trade. Things got so dire for the forest and wildlife that Chi Phat earned the name the "circle of death".
Seeing both the environmental tragedy and great potential of Chi Phat, Wildlife Alliance partnered with the community with the support of the local authority, and the Chi Phat CBET was born. From that day forward, everything changed. Suddenly, 300 families had jobs in tourism as hosts, guides, cooks, and drivers.
Families have been able to develop their own ecolodges and homestays, in addition to activities like
* multi-day trekking packages
* boat tours
* mountain biking tours
* sunrise birdwatching tours and
* romantic sunset dinners for two on the Chi Phat river.
Now, instead of looking to the forest for survival, people in Chi Phat see the forests and wildlife as essential assets for tourism. Today in Chi Phat, there is zero slash and burn. Without the Chi Phat CBET, coupled with the Cardamom Forest protection ranger patrolling, much of this magnificent dense rainforest landscape would have been lost.
In addition to the economic benefits, this model of CBET has brought the people of Chi Phat together. Families work in are close cooperation to offer services to tourists, and share revenues.
This model offers alternatives for former poachers like On. Today, he is the Chi Phat CBET chief. "Today Chi Phat is considered as one of the beautiful tourism destinations in Cambodia," On says with a smile. And the world has recognised the achievements of Chi Phat as Cambodia's premier ecotourism destination with the following awards:
2010: Lonely Planet's #1 sustainable tourism destination
2014: Dubai International Award for Best Practices
2015: Three “Samdech Techo Prime Minister Eco-Business Awards for Tourism”, including
(1) Outstanding Award,
(2) Environmental Award and
(3) Social Welfare and Cultural Heritage Award
2017: Asean Community-Based Tourism and Homestay Standard Awards from the Ministry of Tourism.
All of these awards "builds pride in the Chi Phat community," says On. "We are happy to show visitors our beautiful forest and community development."
