However, in many developing countries, such as Mexico and Egypt, waste left in bins or bags at the side of the road will not be removed unless residents interact with the waste collectors.
Mexico City residents must haul their trash to a waste collection vehicle which makes frequent stops around each neighborhood. The waste collectors will indicate their readiness by ringing a distinctive bell and possibly shouting. Residents line up and hand their trash container to the waste collector. A tip may be expected in some neighborhoods. Private contractors waste collectors may circulate in the same neighborhoods as many as five times per day, pushing a cart with a waste container, ringing a bell and shouting to announce their presence. These private contractors are not paid a salary, and survive only on the tips they receive. Later, they meet up with a waste collection vehicle to deposit their accumulated waste.

MetroTaifun® is one of the world’s leading automatic waste collection systems, which enables automatic solid waste collection based on pneumatic conveying technology.
MetroTaifun® ensures cleanliness, safety, space and energy savings. The use of Automatic Waste Collection system increases waste sorting and recycling. Communal areas are safer without garbage truck traffic. In addition, odours, pests and emissions related to waste collection are minimized.
The system works like a giant vacuum cleaner: conveying waste & recyclables through underground/above-ground pipelines that can extend up to 4 km (2.5 miles) from the waste collection point. The system may include both residential waste collection stations and bigger commercial waste collection stations. The waste ends up in into containers in a waste transfer terminal: one pipe, multiple containers for different fractions.
The key in MetroTaifun is the small Ø300mm pipe: it enables fast and easy installation and energy consumption only 1/3 compared to traditional AWCS with Ø500mm pipe. The unique Formator technology reduces large waste sacks to fit into the small pipe.
MetroTaifun® is suitable for all applications including e.g. hospitals, residential areas, industrial areas, shopping centers, sports complexes, hybrid and mobile systems, hospitals, airports.

NEW CONTRACTOR: JJ’s Waste & Recycling has taken over the region’s waste collection services for the next eight years, as part of a new contract with council.
The new look trucks were manufactured by JJ’s in-house engineering division. The vehicles meet emissions standards known as Euro 6 which is applied by the European Union to minimise fuel use and harmful exhaust emissions.
This standard is above the current requirements for Australian diesel vehicles which means a cleaner, quieter service for the Sunshine Coast.
The collection fleet also includes an Electric Vehicle that will be used to service public place bins across the region.

Meet Sunshine Coast Council's new waste collection vehicles!
TRUCK COLOURS:
Light-green – electric truck emptying public place bins
Green – garden organics
Yellow – recycling
Red – general waste
Teal – a general truck used for commercial waste, public place bins, and to help out with household waste and garden waste collection if needed.
