The Central Bank of Syria (Arabic:مصرف سورية المركزي) is the central bank of Syria. The bank is located in Damascus with 11 branches in provincial capitals. It was established in 1953 and started its operations in 1956. The objective of the bank is "to foster the stability integrity and efficiency of the nation’s financial and payment systems so as to promote optimal macro economic performance".
Gold reserves
Since the outbreak of the Syrian civil war, it has been reported that Syria's gold reserves have been cut in half from the pre-civil war amount of around $17 billion, due to the Syrian government resorting to selling off its reserves as a way of coping with international sanctions. The Governor of the Central Bank of Syria Adib Mayalah has sought to deny these reports. This is similar to how the Syrian government is having to use up its foreign reserves to meet the demands of a budget deficit which has greatly increased to around $6.7 Billion USD.
A central bank, reserve bank, or monetary authority is an institution that manages a state'scurrency, money supply, and interest rates. Central banks also usually oversee the commercial banking system of their respective countries. In contrast to a commercial bank, a central bank possesses a monopoly on increasing the monetary base in the state, and usually also prints the national currency, which usually serves as the state's legal tender.
The primary function of a central bank is to control the nation's money supply (monetary policy), through active duties such as managing interest rates, setting the reserve requirement, and acting as a lender of last resort to the banking sector during times of bank insolvency or financial crisis. Central banks usually also have supervisory powers, intended to prevent bank runs and to reduce the risk that commercial banks and other financial institutions engage in reckless or fraudulent behavior. Central banks in most developed nations are institutionally designed to be independent from political interference. Still, limited control by the executive and legislative bodies usually exists.
The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, CBRT (Turkish:Türkiye Cumhuriyet Merkez Bankası, TCMB) is the central bank of Turkey and is founded as a joint stock company on 11 June 1930.
Shares of the CBRT are divided into four classes. Class A shares belong solely to the Turkish Treasury. Class B and Class C shares are allocated to national banks operating in Turkey, banks other than national banks and privileged companies. Finally, Class D shares are allocated to Turkish commercial institutions and to real and legal persons of Turkish nationality.
The CBRT determines, at its own discretion, the monetary policy to pursue and the policy instruments to use in achieving price stability in Turkey. This implies that the CBRT enjoys instrument independence. In order to attain its objective of price stability, the CBRT has implemented a full-fledged inflation targeting regime since 2006.
The preparations to establish a central bank of Turkey began in 1926, but the organization was established on 3 October 1931 and opened officially on 1 January 1932. The Bank had, originally, a privilege of issuing banknotes for a period of 30 years. In 1955, this privilege was extended until 1999. Finally it was prolonged indefinitely in 1994.
Syria (i/ˈsɪ.rɪə/; Arabic:سوريا or سورية, Sūriyā or Sūrīyah), officially the Syrian Arab Republic, is a country in Western Asia. De jure Syrian territory borders Lebanon and the Mediterranean Sea to the west, Turkey to the north, Iraq to the east, Jordan to the south, and Israel to the southwest, but the government's control now extends to approximately 30–40% of the de jure state area and less than 60% of the population.
Syria Palæstina was established by the merger of Roman Syria and Roman Jud(a)ea, following the defeat of the Bar Kokhba Revolt in 135.
Two Provinces
Provincia Syria-Coele
The governor of Syria retained the civil administration of the whole large province undiminished, and held for long alone in all Asia a command of the first rank. It was only in the course of the second century that a diminution of his prerogatives occurred, when Hadrian took one of the four legions from the governor of Syria and handed it over to the governor of Palestine. It was Severus who at length withdrew the first place in the Roman military hierarchy from the Syrian governor. After having subdued the province (which had wished at that time to make Niger emperor, as it had formerly done with its governor Vespasian) amidst resistance from the capital Antioch in particular, he ordained its partition into a northern and a southern half, and gave to the governor of the former, which was called Coele-Syria, two legions, to the governor of the latter, the province of Syro-Phoenicia, one legion.

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu says Iran will 'pay' for missile attack | BBC News
Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said Iran will "pay" for a missile attack on the country.
Most of the 180 missiles were intercepted on Tuesday night. One Palestinian was killed in the West Bank, and a school in central Israel and a restaurant in Tel Aviv were hit.
Iran said the barrage was in response to Israel’s "aggressive acts", including the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
Israel said it's sending "additional forces" to its ground operation inside Lebanon, which began earlier this week.

(11 Jul 2017) LEADIN:
Syrians have welcomed the newest banknote to be released by the Central Bank.
The 2,000 pound note is the highest value currency ever issued and is the first to feature a picture of the current president.
STORYLINE:
The face of President Bashar Assad adorns Syria's latest banknote.
It's the first time he's been depicted on the currency which went into circulation earlier this month.
The 2,000 Syrian pound note is worth around 4 US dollars.
It replaces the 1,000 pound note as the highest denomination in the country's currency.
Economy expert Majed Mokheiber points out that the notes were printed in 2015 but were not put into circulation "until the right time and circumstances with regard to the Syrian economy".
The Syrian currency has plunged in value since the Syrian conflict erupted six years ago.
Trading at 47 pounds to the dollar in 2011, it's currently going for more than 500 pounds to the dollar.
Inflation has also soared, reaching an all-time high in 2013, at over 120 percent.
Estimates in 2016 put the inflation rate at 50 percent.
However the pound has been relatively stable for the past year and exchange-rate fluctuations have somewhat slowed down amid the Syrian military's war gains.
"For more than a year we see that the exchange rate in Syria has started to be relatively stable. We haven't seen currency fluctuations, it has somewhat stabilised and this is why the decision came at the right time with the start of economic recovery and economic growth and improvement of economic returns in various sectors," says Mokheiber.
Shopkeeper Abu Toufic counts the new notes he's received from customers.
He approves of introducing a higher value note.
"It is a help for the Syrian people not to have to carry a lot of notes with them," he says.
The new Assad-decorated note comes at a time when his government is boasting military successes against other factions in the country's civil war.
The currency previously only carried images of historic icons or pictures of the current President's late father and predecessor, Hafez Assad.
