Canada was the name of the French colony that once stretched along the St. Lawrence River; the other colonies of New France were Acadia, Louisiana and the south shore of Newfoundland. Canada, the most developed colony of New France, was divided into three districts, each with its own government: Quebec, Trois-Rivières, and Montreal. The governor of the District of Quebec was also the governor-general of all New France.
Because of the level of development of Canada compared to the other colonies, the terms "Canada" and "New France" were often used interchangeably. After the Treaty of Paris of 1763, when France ceded Canada and its dependencies to Great Britain, the colony was renamed the Province of Quebec.
Settled country
A 1740 survey of the population of the St. Lawrence River valley counted about 44,000 colonists, the majority born in Canada. Of those, 18,000 lived under the Government of Quebec, 4,000 under the Government of Trois-Rivières and 22,000 under the Government of Montreal. The population was mostly rural; Quebec had 4,600 inhabitants; Trois-Rivières had 378; and Montreal had 4,200 inhabitants. Also, Île Royale had 4,000 inhabitants (of which 1,500 were in Louisbourg), and Île Saint-Jean had 500 inhabitants. Acadia had 8,000 inhabitants.
The territory was divided into colonies, each with its own administration: Canada, Acadia, Newfoundland(Plaisance), and Louisiana. The Treaty of Utrecht resulted in the relinquishing of French claims to mainland Acadia, the Hudson Bay and Newfoundland, and the establishment of the colony of Île Royale, now called Cape Breton Island, where the French built the Fortress of Louisbourg. Acadia had a difficult history, with the Great Upheaval, remembered on July 28 each year since 2003. The descendants are dispersed in the Maritime Provinces of Canada, in Maine and Louisiana in the United States, with small populations in Chéticamp, Nova Scotia and the Magdalen Islands.
Canada (i/ˈkænədə/; French: [ka.na.da]) is a country in the northern part of North America. Its ten provinces and three territories extend from the Atlantic to the Pacific and northward into the Arctic Ocean, covering 9.98million square kilometres (3.85million square miles), making it the world's second-largest country by total area and the fourth-largest country by land area. Canada's border with the United States is the world's longest land border. Canada is sparsely populated, the majority of its land territory being dominated by forest and tundra and the Rocky Mountains; about four-fifths of the country's population of 35 million people live near the southern border. The majority of Canada has a cold or severely cold winter climate, but southerly areas are warm in summer.
The land now called Canada has been inhabited for millennia by various Aboriginal peoples. Beginning in the 15th century, British and French colonies were established on the Atlantic coast, with the first establishment of a region called "Canada" occurring in 1537. As a consequence of various conflicts, the United Kingdom gained and lost territories within British North America until left, in the late 18th century, with what mostly geographically comprises Canada today. Pursuant to the British North America Act, on July 1, 1867, the colonies of Canada, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotiajoined to form the autonomous federal Dominion of Canada. This began an accretion of provinces and territories to the self-governing Dominion to the present ten provinces and three territories forming modern Canada. In 1931, Canada achieved near total independence from the United Kingdom with the Statute of Westminster 1931, and full sovereignty was attained when the Canada Act 1982 removed the last remaining ties of legal dependence on the British parliament.
Provinces of the Anglican Church of Canada are headed by a Metropolitan, elected from among the province's diocesan bishops. This bishop then becomes Archbishop of his or her diocese and Metropolitan of the Province. The current Metropolitan of the Province of Canada is the Most Rev. Percy D. Coffin, Archbishop of Western Newfoundland.

How Quebec Plans To Save Itself From English
Quebec is the only province in Canada where francophones make up the majority of the population, and for Quebecers, preserving the French language is the only possible safeguard for the survival of the Quebec identity and culture. After nearly 500 years, French is still the official language of this North American city. How has this UNESCO World Heritage Site retained its 'Frenchness' after all this time? Why does the Château Frontenac hotel look like a French castle, and what does it have to do with the Canadian railway? What's so curious about Rue Saint-Jean, Place Royal, and Petit-Champlain?

How Quebec Plans To Save Itself From English
Quebec is the only province in Canada where francophones make up the majority of the population, and for Quebecers, preserving the French language is the only possible safeguard for the survival of the Quebec identity and culture. So in a world where everything is dominated by English-speaking media, this is how Quebec is trying to save their province from anglicisation.

French Colonization of North America (New France Colonial America APUSH) @TomRichey
http:www.tomrichey.net
The French colonized Canada and Louisiana, together known as "New France," in the 17th century under the watchful eye of Louis XIV. Of all of the European colonial powers, the French cultivated the best relationship with Native Americans, sending few colonists and enlisting the Natives as allies and partners in the fur trade.

▶ In this video I talk about how France lost North America. New France, the french colony, once occupied a significant part of what are today the United States and Canada. Through their initial colony in Quebec, they expanded further through conquest and colonization; for instance against the Iroquois who they faced along with other native allies. ▶ In this video I talk about how France lost North America. New France, the french colony, once occupied a significant part of what are today the United States and Canada. Through their initial colony in Quebec, they expanded further through conquest and colonization; for instance against the Iroquois who they faced along with other native allies. After fully establishing themselves in Northern Canada, they expanded South and West into what became known as 'Louisiana'. Many of these territories were then lost to the British through various wars. In 1713, the Peace of Utrecht that followed the Spanish War of Succession took away Newfoundland and Rupert's land. Later, in 1763, the Peace of Paris that followed the Seven Years War / French and Indian War saw France accept British control over Iroquois territories, as well as ceding all remaining French Canadian territories to them. In addition, all territories West of the Mississippi river were ceded to both the British and Spanish, with Louisiana itself being given to Spain as well. Later, Napoleon attempted to rebuild a French North American Empire, recovering Louisiana from Spain but quickly realizing this endeavour was a mistake. A successful revolution in Haiti and the prospect of another with the British led Napoleon to sell the entire territory to the United States for a mere $15 million dollars, even though the initial American offer was only to purchase New Orleans for $10 million. With this, French presence in North America went from about a third of the continent, to a couple of very small islands off the coast of Canada - Saint Pierre and Miquelon.

Is the government telling the truth about Canada's debt? | About That
The federal government is defending the fact that it overshot last fiscal year's deficit target by roughly $20 billion by suggesting our economy is the envy of the G7. Andrew Chang explains why that argument is misleading, and what $1.2 trillion in federal debt actually means. Images gathered from Reuters, Getty Images, and The Canadian Press.

And because both countries have been friendly for so long, you might think that this means the border is pretty simple, right? The reality is anything but. The US-Canada border is filled with small little oddities that make you question whether this is really a border at all!
In this video, we'll cover the extensive geography of the border, from the far east to the far west and then all the way to the north. Then we'll dive deep into all of the weird little oddities along the border and how they can change your perception of just what a border is.

Covering business, finance and economics every week can be a little bit depressing.
In just the last 2 years personal savings have been evaporated, consumer debt has hit record highs, the job market has been defined by anti-worker trends such as ghost jobs, broad sector layoffs and gigification, all while asset prices have ballooned far faster than household incomes, or even their intrinsic fundamentals.
The results have been pretty simple, it’s getting much harder for people who work for a living to keep up with those who already have assets…
Even the most diligent and career focused people are finding it tough to make ends meet let alone accumulate assets so that they too can one day achieve financial security…
But if ever you are feeling like it’s all a bit hopeless, just remember, it could be worse… you could be from Canada…

The US-Canada border is one of the most well known, most crossed borders in the entire world.

Experience the moments before, during, and after the biggest moments in Canada's History in this documentary series based on the primary source journals of some of our biggest historical figures. In this clip, New France experiences its first real problem; the Canadian winter. How will the new settlers survive?

The federal government is defending the fact that it overshot last fiscal year's deficit target by roughly $20 billion by suggesting our economy is the envy of the G7. Andrew Chang explains why that argument is misleading, and what $1.2 trillion in federal debt actually means. Images gathered from Reuters, Getty Images, and The Canadian Press.

If you are looking for an amazing destination with beautiful scenery, lakes, lighthouses, mountains, and valleys, Canada won’t disappoint you. Visit a quiet town, a national park, or a wilderness area not far from a major city for a vacation filled with gorgeous views, Northern Lights, waterfalls, and fun outdoor adventures - Canada got all for you.
Let's take a look at the 10 best places to visit in Canada that should be on everyone's bucket list.

The US-Canada border is one of the most well known, most crossed borders in the entire world.
