Dallas was settled in the 1840s on the north side of Rickreall Creek and was originally named "Cynthian" or "Cynthiana". A 1947 Itemizer-Observer article (quoted in 100 Years in Polk County: A Centennial Background) states: "[T]he town was called Cynthiana after Cynthiana, Ky., so named by Mrs. Thos. Lovelady." The History of Polk County Oregon, 1987, Page 12, states: "To Mrs. Thomas J. Lovelady was given the honor of naming the new settlement and she selected the name after her home town of Cynthiana, Kentucky."
Another source claims that the origin of the name may come from the name of Jesse Applegate's wife, Cynthia Ann. However, she lived in the Salt Creek area of northern Polk County and, according to the 1850 Federal Census, had already left Polk County by 1850.
Future series regular Susan Howard returns as Donna Culver for four episodes. The character Jenna Wade, who will be portrayed by series regular Priscilla Presley in later seasons, also returns for two episodes, now played by Francine Tacker. Longrunning supporting actors Jared Martin (Steven "Dusty" Farlow). George O. Petrie (Harv Smithfield), Stephanie Blackmore (Serena Wald), Tom Fuccello (Dave Culver), Jeff Cooper (Dr. Simon Ellby), Dennis Patrick (Vaughn Leland) and Barry Corbin (Sheriff Fenton Washburn) make their debuts. Mel Ferrer (Harrison Page) appears in two episodes as Pam's immediate supervisor at The Store after her promotion to Buyer. Stephen Elliott (Scotty Demarest) and Martha Scott (Patricia Shepard), who appear in one and two episodes, respectively, will return as "special guest stars" for seasons 8 and 10 (Elliot), and 9 (Scott). Characters Gary (now played by Ted Shackelford) and Valene Ewing (Joan Van Ark) appear for one and two episodes, respectively, promoting DallasspinoffKnots Landing, premiering in December 1979.
Dallas is a TV soap-opera/crime system in which the PCs are major characters from the Dallas series interacting in "plots." Character abilities include power, persuasion, coercion, seduction, investigation, and luck; ability scores are compared and dice are rolled to determine the results of actions. The game includes the "Rules of Play" (16 pages), "Major Characters" booklet (16 pages), and the "Scriptwriter's Guide" (16 pages) for the GM, plus dozens of minor characters on cut-apart cards.
In an attempt to expand its customer base even further beyond the "hobbyist" core, SPI entered into a much-publicized arrangement with Lorimar Productions to produce the Dallas role-playing game based on the soap opera Dallas in 1980.Dallas: The Television Role-Playing Game was the first ever licensed role-playing game. The game proved to be an infamous failure, and Simonsen later remarked that the 80,000 copies printed were 79,999 too many.
The land Oregon, Illinois was founded on was previously held by the Potawatomi and Winnebago Indian tribes. In fact, later, settlers discovered that the area contained a large number of Indian mounds, most 10 to 12 feet in diameter.
Ogle County was a New England settlement. The original founders of Oregon and Rochelle consisted entirely of settlers from New England. These people were "Yankees", that is to say they were descended from the EnglishPuritans who settled New England in the 1600s. They were part of a wave of New England farmers who headed west into what was then the wilds of the Northwest Territory during the early 1800s. Most of them arrived as a result of the completion of the Erie Canal. When they arrived in what is now Bureau County there was nothing but a virgin forest and wild prairie, the New Englanders laid out farms, constructed roads, erected government buildings and established post routes. They brought with them many of their YankeeNew England values, such as a passion for education, establishing many schools as well as staunch support for abolitionism. They were mostly members of the Congregationalist Church though some were Episcopalian. Culturally Bureau County, like much of northern Illinois would be culturally very continuous with early New England culture, for most of its history.
Towner and Moore had been friends and occasional collaborators since meeting in 1960 as students at the University of Oregon. By 1969, both were working musicians living in New York; while collaborating with folksinger Tim Hardin they were introduced to world music pioneer Paul Winter's "Consort" ensemble, particularly member Collin Walcott, with whom Towner began improvising as an informal duo. By 1970 Towner and Moore had joined the Winter Consort and met fellow member McCandless; the four began exploring improvisation on their own, while their contributions continued to be seminal in redefining the Winter Consort "sound" in compositions like Towner's "Icarus".
The four musicians made their first group recording in 1970, but the label, Increase Records, went out of business before it could be released (it eventually was issued by Vanguard in 1980 as Our First Record). Oregon made its "formal" debut in NYC in 1971 (originally named "Thyme — Music of Another Present Era", the name change to Oregon was suggested by McCandless).
Exploring Dallas Oregon - an alternative to Portland
Dallas Oregon is approximately 15 miles west of Salem and 60 miles south of Portland and within an hour of the coast. There are lots of new homes in construction and far more affordable than the neighboring cities.
Single family homes in the neighborhood are selling between $400,000 and $500,000. The downtown is adorable, the aquatics center is great for swimmers, there's plenty of tennis courts, pickleball courts and other recreational facilities.
If you are considering moving to Oregon, I highly recommend you consider Dallas Oregon. If I can help you with your move to Dallas, please do reach out. I am a licensed realtor in the states of Oregon and Washington and would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

Residents push back against proposed homeless shelter in Polk County, Oregon

Dallas post office was established in 1852.
In 1856, the town was moved more than a mile south because of an inadequate supply of water.
Dallas was in competition with Independence to be the county seat and the citizens of Dallas raised $17,000 in order to have a branch of the narrow gauge railroad come to their town, thus securing the honor. The line was built from 1878–80.[8] A more suitable name for a county seat was needed, and since George Mifflin Dallas was vice-president under James K. Polk, for whom the county was named, "Dallas" was a natural choice.
Dallas was incorporated as a town in 1874, and as a city in 1901.

Community members are digging their heels in for a fight, as plans take shape for a new homeless shelter in Polk County.
"If the shelter puts one child at risk, the answer is no. It's not what we need in this community," said Micky Garus.

"I sometimes have the courage to say what other people won't say even though they're thinking it or feeling it in their heart," said Garus. "My words don't mean anything if I don't follow them up with action. So, I will follow through and get to the bottom of things."
Garus is now leading the charge against a micro-shelter community proposed for a property just outside downtown Dallas. KATU met him on Holman Avenue, where every home but one has signs outside opposing the project.
"What I'm worried about is when you open up a shelter, you will see an influx of homeless people coming into our community," said Garus.
Garus has a lot of support behind him. Not just from neighbors, some of whom called him their spokesperson, but from all over Polk County. The Facebook group he created a month ago, "Dallas Oregon Opposition to Homeless Shelter," has nearly 2,000 members. They have a long list of concerns, worried the shelter site would bring more crime, drug use, and other problems to Dallas and beyond.
"The corner of this property has Ash Creek running through it. It's a floodplain. It floods almost every single year. When people go on the perimeter of this property to do their drugs, shoot up their needles, take a dump, whatever it is that they might do, because we see it everywhere else, where is that stuff going to go?" said Garus. "It's going to go into the creek. It's going to trickle down to the next neighborhood. It's going to trickle down to farmlands."
The Salem-based nonprofit Church @ The Park will buy the property and run the micro-shelter community. They'll use funding from Gov. Tina Kotek's emergency housing order, nearly $1.6 million, and a Medicaid contract to pay for it over the next two years.
The plan is to build five trailers that'll hold 40 beds and renovate the home on the property to provide on-site services. KATU visited one of their sites in Salem, which they're about to open as a youth shelter. Pastor DJ Vincent told us the Dallas site will prioritize families and women first.
"Most of us can hardly imagine that there are kids who are thinking about going back to school, and they're either living out of a vehicle or a tent right now. That just can't be in our community. We have to respond and do better for them," said Vincent.
A mother of three touring the Salem site told us she's been there.

Dallas is a city and the county seat of Polk County, Oregon, United States. The population was 14,583 at the 2010 census.
Dallas is along Rickreall Creek, about 15 miles (24 km) west of Salem, at an elevation of 325 feet (99 m) above sea level. It is part of the Salem Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Dallas was settled in the 1840s on the north side of Rickreall Creek and was originally named "Cynthian" or "Cynthiana".[8] A 1947 Itemizer-Observer article[9] states: "[T]he town was called Cynthiana after Cynthiana, Ky., so named by Mrs. Thos. Lovelady." The History of Polk County Oregon, 1987, Page 12, states: "To Mrs. Thomas J. Lovelady was given the honor of naming the new settlement and she selected the name after her home town of Cynthiana, Kentucky."
Another source claims that the origin of the name may have been Jesse Applegate's wife, Cynthia Ann.[8] However, she lived in the Salt Creek area of northern Polk County and, according to the 1850 Federal Census, had already left Polk County by 1850.

If you live in Polk County, you may recognize Garus.
"I was born and raised here in Dallas. I've been here for 43 years," he said.
The rest of you might remember his controversial takes -- when he drew criticism for posts about transgender students and Muslims in America while serving on the Dallas City Council.

What do voters in Dallas, Oregon, the home district to Sen. Brian Boquist who threatened the Oregon State Police and Gov. Kate Brown with violence, have to say about the walkout? We asked.
Parents at a rural Oregon high school have filed a federal lawsuit over the school district’s policy to allow a transgender male student into the boys’ locker room and bathroom.
