The Buryats. The Nation. To die for the imperial ambitions of the Kremlin. UATV documentary
Throughout its history, Russia has seized foreign lands, colonizing indigenous peoples and destroying their national identity. Then it used these same peoples to seize new territories and enslave others. Today, as in the past, the people enslaved by the Russian Federation - the Buryats - give their lives for the imperial ambitions of the Kremlin, seemingly completely forgetting how several centuries ago the Muscovites similarly murdered their ancestors and took their territories. How Putin is destroying the indigenous Buryat people in an unnecessary war against Ukraine - watch the new project 'The Nation' on UATV channel.

One of Russia's most interesting republics is in South-Eastern Siberia on the Mongolian border - Buryatia: a rich variety of cultures and traditions are intertwined in its history.
In the past, every Buryat household had camels. They disappeared from homes during the 20th century. Now the humped animals are, once again, becoming popular.
Bair Mandanov, a local camel herdsman explained to euronews:
"They say that long ago, long before we were born, the Buryats had a lot of camels. Now we want that tradition to revive," he said.
The return of camels to national parks is one of many signs of Buryatia's drift back to its roots.
Neighbouring Lake Baikal contains 20 percent of the planet's unfrozen fresh water. The republic therefore has to prevent pollution, which rules out heavy industry.
A third of Buryatia's one million residents live in its capital, Ulan-Ude - a modern and dynamic city with rising buildings, busy streets and a vibrant nightlife.
Outside the capital, Buryatia is a land of pristine nature. Baikal's beauty attracts many visitors. Booming tourism brings income, but raises concerns for the lake's wellbeing.
The revival of ethnic cultures pulls more tourists into Buryatia's rural valleys. Traditional rites are still alive in local villages: they combine nomadic worshiping of nature's spirits, with ritual offerings, songs and meals - like boiled lamb. Its meat is considered pure and healthy, and bones are used for fortune-telling.
Dymbrin Borkhonova, art director, Hengerge folk ensemble explained:
"These high mountains...surround us, protecting us from various ills. We pray every morning to these holy gods - to our mountains and the deities that dwell at their peaks," he said.
The love of nature is rooted in the healing properties of the local land. The tectonic fracture that created Baikal created natural geothermal springs that became therapeutic resorts in the 18th century.
Vladimir Borisenko, a local bus driver enjoys the natural luxury:
"It's nice to stand under the hot stream when the weather is cold, it's a healthy and pleasant massage," he mused.
Today, the so-called 'valley of 100 springs' is a site of mass pilgrimage. The mineral sources provide healing powers. Some people splash water onto their eyes, hoping to improve their eyesight. Others bring bottles to collect water for drinking.
The cult of nature is typical of Buryatia's rural regions where ancient shamanic beliefs coexist with Tibetan Buddhism, creating a mixture of spiritual traditions. Euronews visited a village datsan, where a service was led by a local elder with a gift for preaching to deities.
Sodnom Lama explained to euronews:
"I would say it's a mixed rite. The offerings are made to the shamanistic spirits that are bound by an oath to Buddhism that also makes them deities of the Buddhist pantheon. So it's not a purely shamanistic rite," he said.
A land of true religious diversity, Buryatia is also a home to Old Believer Christians - an Orthodox minority whose ancestors were exiled here after the 17th century division in the Russian church.

We've finally made it to Siberia on the Trans-Siberian Railway!
Our first adventure was arriving in Ulan-Ude, near Lake Baikal, and driving hundreds of kilometres into the wilderness to meet a remote Siberian tribe in Buryatia, Russia.

The landscape is called The Steppe, a vast sweeping grassland that covers central Asia. Tribes who live here have traditionally been nomadic, making small camps like the one we stay in. This experience put us outside our comfort zones. We ate some interesting Russian food like raw sheep liver, rode horses, wrestled, and had the time of our lives. While this experience isn't for everyone, it's definitely for me. This was one of my favourite days on the Trans-Siberian Railway. The people we met in this small village made it especially memorable. You can tell by their faces, that they are kind and generous. We felt right at home in this remote part of Russia.

https://wn.com/24_Hours_With_Remote_Siberian_Tribe_In_Buryatia,_Russia
We've finally made it to Siberia on the Trans-Siberian Railway!
Our first adventure was arriving in Ulan-Ude, near Lake Baikal, and driving hundreds of kilometres into the wilderness to meet a remote Siberian tribe in Buryatia, Russia.
Buryatia is one of Russia's most unique republics. It has a mongol heritage, and the people who live here are descendants of the Golden Horde. The landscape is called The Steppe, a vast sweeping grassland that covers central Asia. Tribes who live here have traditionally been nomadic, making small camps like the one we stay in. This is our documentary of 24 hours with this tribe.

More information about the video content bellow:
1. The Republic of Buryatia is a federal subject of Russia (a republic), located in Siberia in Asia. Its area is 351,300 square kilometers with a population of 972,021. The republic is located in the south-central region of Siberia along the eastern shore of Lake Baikal.
2. Russians constitute the majority of the republic's one million inhabitants, although the native Tibetan Buddhist and Shamanist Buryats (a race of Mongolian descent) remain a large minority (about 30% of the population); indeed, the Buryats constitute Siberia's largest ethnic group after Russians.
3. The Buryat minority group are descendant of the Mongols who historically lived in the area of Lake Baikal and first became part of the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Two centuries later, they joined the separated confederation of Oirat tribes in East Mongolia. Shortly thereafter, Russia began conquering the Buryat territories. Now an integrated part of the Russian Federation, they mostly live in the Republic of Buryatia and nearby territories.
4. Its capital is the city of Ulan-Ude. The settlement was officially founded in 1666 by Russian Cossacks as a fortress. The city was closed to foreigners before 1991. The World's Largest Lenin Head is in Ploshchad Sovietov, the main city square. The head is 7.7m tall and weighs 42 tons. It was unveiled in 1970 in honor of Lenin's 100th birthday and to remind the local population who was in charge. In is now a common meeting place.
5. Aside from its cultural attractions and capital, Buryatia is a nature lover's paradise. Almost 80% of the territory is covered by mountains, and more than half the shore-line of Lake Baikal falls under Buryatia's jurisdiction. Outside the capital Ulan Ude, the major tourist attractions include hot springs, Lake Baikal and Mongolian style Buddhist monasteries.
6. The Trans-Siberian Railway passes through the territory of the republic, as well as the Baikal-Amur Railway.
7. Buryats – descendants of the Mongols – practice the philosophy of life called Tengerism (Tengri – The Mighty Blue Sky), according to which the Sky is the supreme deity and created the worlds. Both, the visible and the invisible one; both inhabited by spirits. They live all around us: in animals, mountains, forests, rivers and people – these are called the soul. Practising Tengerism means to keep a balance between the spirits, that is why everything and everyone should be deeply respected – whether it is a living next door neighbour, or a river flowing by, which out of respect cannot be polluted, or a forest that cannot be cut for the very same reason. If this balance is disturbed, an intervention of the shaman – spiritual guide, chosen by the spirits – is required. The decision about the spirits’ choosing is manifested by a severe “shamanic disease” that falls on the chosen one or by a thunderbolt strike.
