Atlantic (1783 ship)
Atlantic was launched in 1783. She made one voyage from England to Australia in 1791 carrying convicts. Later, she made one voyage for the East India Company (EIC). Subsequently she sailed to Smyrna, Surinam, and Gibraltar, before she disappears from records in 1810.
Career
In 1783 she was under the command of Captain Edward Redman. Under his command, she traded between London and Jamaica.
In 1789 Atlantic was under the command of Captain Muirhead. She was trading between London and Archangel.
Convict transport
Under the command of Archibald Armstrong, master, Atlantic departed Portsmouth on 27 March 1791 as part of the third fleet, and arrived on 20 August 1791 in Port Jackson, New South Wales. She transported 220 male convicts, 18 of whom died during the voyage. The Naval Agent on board was Lieutenant Richard Bowen, and the surgeon was James Thompson.
Provisions in the colony were in short supply. Governor Phillip, therefore, took the Atlantic into the service as a naval transport. She left Port Jackson on 26 October 1791, bound for Bengal.

RMS Atlantic
RMS Atlantic was a transatlantic ocean liner of the White Star Line that operated between Liverpool, United Kingdom, and New York City, United States. During the ship's 19th voyage, on 1 April 1873, it ran onto rocks and sank off the coast of Nova Scotia, killing at least 535 people. It remained the deadliest civilian maritime disaster in the Northern Atlantic until the sinking of SS La Bourgogne on 2 July 1898 and the greatest disaster for the White Star Line prior to the loss of Titanic 39 years later.
History
Atlantic was built by Harland and Wolff in Belfast in 1870, and was the second ship built for the newly born White Star Line. She was powered by a steam engine producing 600 horsepower (450 kW) driving a single propeller, along with four masts rigged for sail. She sailed for New York on her maiden voyage on 8 June 1871.
Disaster
On 20 March 1873 Atlantic departed on her 19th voyage from Liverpool with 952 people on board, of whom 835 were passengers. En route, the crew decided to make port at Halifax, Nova Scotia to replenish coal for the boilers.

Atlantic (company)
Atlantic was an Italian toy manufacturing company based in Treviglio from 1966 to 1984. In the 1970s it became widely popular both in Italy and in Europe as a producer of 1:32- and HO-scale toy soldiers. The original Atlantic company ceased to exist in 1984; in the late 1990s, the "Atlantic" brand and logo were acquired by Nexus Editrice.
History
Atlantic began producing toy soldiers in the late 1960s, achieving a great popularity in 1971 with the HO scale plastic toy soldier series "Soldati d'Italia" ("Italian soldiers") dedicated to the different branches of the contemporary Italian army. Based on this success, the company began creating series for the World War II armies and other historical periods, including the American Old West, the Roman Empire, and Ancient Egypt. The HO toy soldier line was complemented with a vast series of vehicles, from tanks to heavy bombers, as well as buildings (for example, a miniature Colosseum was created for the Roman Empire toy soldier series). Starting from 1978, Atlantic also commercialized science fiction toy soldier lines, some of which based on Japanese anime such as Captain Harlock and Grendizer.

Ship
A ship is a large buoyant watercraft. Ships are generally distinguished from boats based on size, shape and cargo or passenger capacity. Ships are used on lakes, seas,rivers,and oceans for a variety of activities, such as the transport of people or goods, fishing, entertainment, public safety, and warfare. Historically, a "ship" was a sailing vessel with at least three square-rigged masts and a full bowsprit.
In armed conflict and in daily life, ships have become an integral part of modern commercial and military systems. Fishing boats are used by millions of fishermen throughout the world. It's been a while since I posted a real-time sinking animation, but I've been sitting on a few in the past few months. Since working with Alex, these animations have really come to life and his work takes these projects to a new level.
I'm currently up in Halifax now and recently visited the SS Atlantic Heritage museum. When I got there, I saw they were playing my old 2018 Atlantic animation on loop, so I offered to put this remake together using our recent and heavily improved animations. That being said, this video is meant to work both in the context of my YouTube channel for the public and for visitors of the museum.
The historical research has been updated in this video, so this is even more accurate than it was. The visuals are obviously improved, but also the sound mixing.
I first directed a real-time sinking animation in 2016 (it was of the Titanic and for another YouTube channel) and for a while it was one of my go-to things to produce, so this has been an enjoyable throw back to a few years ago.

The SS Atlantic wrecked on the rocks of Lower Prospect in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1873. The story is nearly forgotten. We do our best to tell the story of the sinking, the worst disaster on the North Atlantic in the 1800's, and the first disaster for the White Star Line.

On this channel, we've studied the Titanic, the Lusitania, the Atlantic, Lexington, Swallow, and others. However, the wreck of the Collins Liner SS Arctic in 1854 is the most tragic, shocking, and shameful maritime ordeals I've yet to cover. This story is not for the faint of heart.
After departing Liverpool and approaching the coast of Newfoundland en route for New York, the SS Arctic was struck by the French steamship Vesta, tearing open her side, and leading to a terrible calamity aboard both vessels, where most men turned to cowards and villains while only a few rose to be the heroes the situation called for.

April Fool's Day, 1873 - The grand steamer Atlantic of the White Star Line crashes hard onto the rocks of Lower Prospect, Nova Scotia (not too far from Halifax), with almost 1,000 people on board. The ship is rapidly tearing apart as the waves batter it against the rocky coastline. The lifeboats wreck before they can escape and the stern sinks rapidly. It seems hopeless for everyone aboard Atlantic, but rescue is on its way in the form of a small group of local fishermen.
At that time, the SS Atlantic was the worst disaster in the North Atlantic to date, and the worst disaster for the White Star Line until the sinking of the Titanic in 1912. April 1st, 2023 marks the 150th anniversary of the wreck, and even though it's a wreck I've covered thoroughly on my channel in the past, including with a detailed full length documentary, new research and a better understanding of the disaster make it worth revisiting this story.

In the early hours of April 1st, 1873, the SS Atlantic was steaming toward Halifax in order to re-coal, after having diverted from its schedule route to Jersey City, USA. The ship is 12 miles off course and instead of sailing toward the harbor, Atlantic was heading straight for the rocky coast of Nova Scotia. The wreck of the Atlantic was the worst maritime disaster in the North Atlantic until 1898 and the worst disaster for the White Star Line until the sinking of the Titanic in 1912. Around 550 were lost, including every woman and all but one or two children.

It's been a while since I posted a real-time sinking animation, but I've been sitting on a few in the past few months. Since working with Alex, these animations have really come to life and his work takes these projects to a new level.
I'm currently up in Halifax now and recently visited the SS Atlantic Heritage museum. When I got there, I saw they were playing my old 2018 Atlantic animation on loop, so I offered to put this remake together using our recent and heavily improved animations. That being said, this video is meant to work both in the context of my YouTube channel for the public and for visitors of the museum.
The historical research has been updated in this video, so this is even more accurate than it was. The visuals are obviously improved, but also the sound mixing.
I first directed a real-time sinking animation in 2016 (it was of the Titanic and for another YouTube channel) and for a while it was one of my go-to things to produce, so this has been an enjoyable throw back to a few years ago.

On this channel, we've studied the Titanic, the Lusitania, the Atlantic, Lexington, Swallow, and others. However, the wreck of the Collins Liner SS Arctic in 1854 is the most tragic, shocking, and shameful maritime ordeals I've yet to cover. This story is not for the faint of heart.
After departing Liverpool and approaching the coast of Newfoundland en route for New York, the SS Arctic was struck by the French steamship Vesta, tearing open her side, and leading to a terrible calamity aboard both vessels, where most men turned to cowards and villains while only a few rose to be the heroes the situation called for.

On April 1, 1873, the steamship Atlantic was lost on the rocks near Halifax, Nova Scotia. This disaster is almost completely forgotten today, even by locals. A small museum stands near the site, but it does not get the attention it deserves.

Atlantic (1783 ship)
Atlantic was launched in 1783. She made one voyage from England to Australia in 1791 carrying convicts. Later, she made one voyage for the East India Company (EIC). Subsequently she sailed to Smyrna, Surinam, and Gibraltar, before she disappears from records in 1810.
Career
In 1783 she was under the command of Captain Edward Redman. Under his command, she traded between London and Jamaica.
In 1789 Atlantic was under the command of Captain Muirhead. She was trading between London and Archangel.
Convict transport
Under the command of Archibald Armstrong, master, Atlantic departed Portsmouth on 27 March 1791 as part of the third fleet, and arrived on 20 August 1791 in Port Jackson, New South Wales. She transported 220 male convicts, 18 of whom died during the voyage. The Naval Agent on board was Lieutenant Richard Bowen, and the surgeon was James Thompson.
Provisions in the colony were in short supply. Governor Phillip, therefore, took the Atlantic into the service as a naval transport. She left Port Jackson on 26 October 1791, bound for Bengal.
