He was the author of several books of military history, including his controversial work The Donkeys (1961), which is considered to have inspired the musical satire Oh, What a Lovely War!
Clark became known for his flamboyance, wit and irreverence. Norman Lamont called him "the most politically incorrect, outspoken, iconoclastic and reckless politician of our times". He is particularly remembered for his three-volume diary, a candid account of political life under Thatcher and a moving description of the weeks preceding his death, when he continued to write until he could no longer focus on the page.
Clark was a passionate supporter of animal rights, joining activists in demonstrations at Dover against live export, and outside the House of Commons in support of Animal Liberation Front hunger-striker Barry Horne. When he died after radiation therapy for a brain tumour, his family said Clark wanted it to be stated that he had "gone to join Tom and the other dogs."

A local hero(ローカルヒーロー,rōkaru hīrō, also written as gotōchi hīrō(ご当地ヒーロー?)
) is a Japanesesuperhero who is created to represent a particular region of Japan, such as a prefecture or city. They often perform in special martial artsstage shows. Created either by local groups or the local government, a local hero is modeled after the superheroes of Japanese tokusatsu. A local hero is often themed around the city or prefecture's local mythologies or industries, are created to teach the children who watch the stage shows certain things (like Recycle Sentai Wakerunger(リサイクル戦隊ワケルンジャー,Risaikuru Sentai Wakerunjā) of Fukui, Fukui Prefecture), or are themed after the event that they are used to promote (the Traffic Sentai Anzenger(トラフィック戦隊アンゼンジャー,Torafikku Sentai Anzenjā) group performed at the Tokyo Motor Show to act in both the latter forms for road traffic safety).
Although local heroes are produced to act in a local area, some gain fame throughout Japan by performing at other local heroes' shows or being featured in mainstream media. Chōjin Neiger(超神ネイガー,Chōjin Neigā, translated as "Super-God Neiger" or "Neiger The Hero") from Nikaho, Akita Prefecture, has had two theme songs recorded by anison recording artist Ichirou Mizuki (the first of which was previously available on the Japanese iTunes Store) and a subsequent EP featuring Mitsuko Horie's vocals.Ryujin Mabuyer(琉神マブヤー,Ryūjin Mabuyā) from Okinawa Prefecture and the Ryukyu Islands was featured in his own syndicated television series. Maburittokiba(マブリットキバ) from Tōno, Iwate Prefecture, was featured in an episode of the TBS program Kizuna Dining when they visited Tōno and appears at hero shows throughout Japan. The Marimokkori of Hokkaidō has become a popular character throughout Japan, sold as mobile phone charms, claw machine prizes, among other merchandise.
"Mac" MacIntyre (Peter Riegert) is a typical 1980s hot-shot executive working for Knox Oil and Gas in Houston, Texas. The eccentric chief of the company, Felix Happer (Burt Lancaster), chooses to send him (largely because his surname sounds Scottish) to Scotland to acquire the village of Ferness to make way for a refinery. Mac (who is actually of Hungarian extraction) is a little apprehensive about his assignment, complaining to a co-worker that he would much rather take care of business over the phone and via telex machines. Happer, an avid astronomy buff, tells Mac to watch the sky, especially around the constellation Virgo, and to notify him immediately if he sees anything unusual.
Clark got his start at the CBC as a copy boy in Ottawa. In the 1970s he worked in the network's national newsroom in Toronto. He later joined CBC Radio, where he worked as a producer, executive producer, news special host, and executive assistant to the program director. In 1983 he was named head of CBC Radio sports, which he established as a separate department from news.
CBC Television
In November 1989, Clark was hired by Arthur Smith to serve as deputy head of CBC Sports. In January 1990, Clark was named acting head of CBC Sports after Smith accepted the position of executive producer and vice-president of Dick Clark Productions. Soon after taking over, the network announced budget cuts. As a result, Clark had to terminate three employees and, due to overtime costs, eliminate coverage of Canadian Football League games on holiday weekends. In April 1990, Clark was appointed head of CBC Sports.
As a young child, Clark received piano lessons. Then, at the age of 13 and while still a pupil at Chester-le-Street Grammar School, he played Hammond organ in working men's clubs. He resumed his formal musical education at Durham Technical College and was offered a place at the Guildhall School of Music, but turned it down because by then he was already forging a successful career in music which included, while also working on a solo career, playing with a reformed Geordie which featured Brian Johnson who would later join AC/DC, and recording on a number of tracks of the Geordie album No Good Woman; playing and recording with a duo called Splinter who were signed to George Harrison's Dark Horse label; playing and recording with Gallagher & Lyle; and he did a tour of summer festivals with Lindisfarne, which included Knebworth.
