The 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games (German: Olympische Jugend-Winterspiele 2012), officially known as the I Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG), were an international multi-sport event for youths that took place in Innsbruck, on 13-22 January 2012. They were the inaugural Winter Youth Olympics, a major sports and cultural festival celebrated in the tradition of the Olympic Games. Approximately 1100 athletes from 70 countries competed. The decision for Innsbruck to host the Games was announced on 12 December 2008 after mail voting by 105 International Olympic Committee (IOC) members. Innsbruck is the first city to host three winter Olympic events, having previously hosted the 1964 Winter Olympics and the 1976 Winter Olympics.
Organization
Host city election
All four applicant cities were kept as candidate cities by the IOC in August 2008. Swedish skier Pernilla Wiberg was the Evaluation Chair for the Commission to score the applicant cities. In November 2008, two cities (Harbin and Lillehammer) were cut from the list, leaving both Kuopio and Innsbruck in the running. On 12 December, the final vote was revealed to be 84 votes to 15, with Innsbruck winning the hosting rights.
The 2010 Summer Youth Olympics (Chinese:第一届夏季青年奥林匹克运动会; pinyin:Dì Yī Jiè Xiàjì Qīngnián Àolínpǐkè YùndònghuìTamil:2010 கோடைக்கால இளையோர் ஒலிம்பிக் விளையாட்டுக்கள்2010 Kōṭaikkāla Iḷaiyōr Olimpik ViḷaiyāṭṭukkaḷMalay:Sukan Olimpik Belia Musim Panas 2010) were the first edition of the Youth Olympic Games (YOG), an international multi-sport and cultural event for youths based on the tradition of the Olympic Games. Held in Singapore from 14 to 26 August 2010, the Games featured about 3,600 athletes aged 14–18 from 205 nations, who competed in 201 events in 26 sports. No official medal tables were published, but the most successful nation was China, followed by Russia; hosts Singapore did not win any gold medals. Most unique features of the YOG, such as mixed-NOCs teams (comprising youths from different countries) and the Culture and Education Programme (CEP), made their debut at the 2010 Games.
Although the concept dates back to 1998, formal plans for the YOG were only announced at the 119th IOC session on 6 July 2007. On 21 February 2008, Singapore was selected as the host city after defeating Moscow 53-44 in a postal vote by 105 International Olympic Committee (IOC) members. The Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC) prepared eighteen competition venues and twelve training venues. The Float@Marina Bay hosted the opening and closing ceremonies and the Youth Olympic Village was located at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). The committee also selected Games mascots Lyo and Merly (a lion and a female merlion), the Spirit of Youth emblem (through a design competition) and the theme song "Everyone" (performed by five singers, each representing a major continent (combining North and South America)).
The Youth Olympic Games (YOG) is an international multi-sport event organized by the International Olympic Committee. The games are held every four years in staggered summer and winter events consistent with the current Olympic Games format. The first summer version was held in Singapore from 14 to 26 August 2010 while the first winter version was held in Innsbruck, Austria from 13 to 22 January 2012. The age limitation of the athletes is 14 to 18. The idea of such an event was introduced by Johann Rosenzopf from Austria in 1998. On 6 July 2007, International Olympic Committee (IOC) members at the 119th IOC session in Guatemala City approved the creation of a youth version of the Olympic Games, with the intention of sharing the costs of hosting the event between the IOC and the host city, whereas the traveling costs of athletes and coaches were to be paid by the IOC. These Games will also feature cultural exchange programs and opportunities for participants to meet Olympic athletes.
The 2016 Winter Youth Olympics (Norwegian: Vinter-OL for ungdom 2016), officially known as the II Winter Youth Olympic Games, are taking place in and around Lillehammer, Norway, between 12 February and 21 February 2016. It will be the fourth Youth Olympic Games and the second winter edition. Lillehammer was awarded the games on 7 December 2011 as the only candidate. The games will reuse venues from the 1994 Winter Olympics. In addition to Lillehammer, sports will be contested in Hamar, Gjøvik and Øyer.
Host selection
Lillehammer was the only city to bid for the games. The Norwegian Olympic Committee talked with Norwegian and regional authorities to investigate a bid and ultimately submitted a bid to the IOC. Upon the deadline for bidding, they were the only city to bid. Lillehammer hosted the 1994 Winter Olympics. They bid for the 2012 Winter Youth Olympics, but failed to become a candidate. Lake Placid, Lucerne, Zaragoza and Sofia all expressed interest in bidding but ultimately failed to submit any bids. On December 7, 2011, the International Olympic Committee selected Lillehammer as the host city of the 2016 Winter Youth Olympics.
The III Winter Youth Olympic Games (French: Les IIIe Jeux olympiques de la jeunesse d'hiver, German: Olympische Jugend-Winterspiele 2020, Italian: I Giochi olimpici giovanili invernali, Romansch: Gieus olimpics da giuvenils d'enviern 2020) will be the third edition of the Winter Youth Olympics; a major international multi-sport event and cultural festival for youths to be celebrated in 2020 in the tradition of the Olympic Games during the XXXII Olympiad.
Bidding
Bids were due by 28 November 2013, the candidates cites were selected on 5 December 2014 and Lausanne was elected host city on 31 July 2015.

The goal is to see who can endure the most pain, simulating frostbite on their nose. Let's give a like to this guy for trying this painful sport.

This has to be the most sus sport you'll ever see. It's called nose pulling, and it's part of the Native Youth Olympics. They literally tie a rope around two people's faces, and they have to push as hard as possible to make the other person tap out. The goal is to see who can endure the most pain, simulating frostbite on their nose. Let's give a like to this guy for trying this painful sport.
