Regarding Move to Draft
[edit]I am not able to use this function, it shows 'Article Exists'. Kindly help Taabii (talk) 18:16, 30 November 2024 (UTC)
- Taabii, which particular article are you trying to draftify? My guess is that the draft with that name already exists which is why you cannot overwrite it with the article. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 03:48, 1 December 2024 (UTC)
- @MPGuy2824 I wanted to draftity Tanvir Mehedi, it is now deleted. Taabii (talk) 12:02, 1 December 2024 (UTC)
- I think I was right: Looking at Draft:Tanvir Mehedi we can see that both the article and the draft were deleted at the same time, which means that they both existed when you were trying to draftify the article. Happy editing! -MPGuy2824 (talk) 12:07, 1 December 2024 (UTC)

Tech News: 2024-50
[edit]Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Weekly highlight
- Technical documentation contributors can find updated resources, and new ways to connect with each other and the Wikimedia Technical Documentation Team, at the Documentation hub on MediaWiki.org. This page links to: resources for writing and improving documentation, a new #wikimedia-techdocs IRC channel on libera.chat, a listing of past and upcoming documentation events, and ways to request a documentation consultation or review. If you have any feedback or ideas for improvements to the documentation ecosystem, please contact the Technical Documentation Team.
Updates for editors
- Later this week, Edit Check will be relocated to a sidebar on desktop. Edit check is the feature for new editors to help them follow policies and guidelines. This layout change creates space to present people with new Checks that appear while they are typing. The initial results show newcomers encountering Edit Check are 2.2 times more likely to publish a new content edit that includes a reference and is not reverted.
- The Chart extension, which enables editors to create data visualizations, was successfully made available on MediaWiki.org and three pilot wikis (Italian, Swedish, and Hebrew Wikipedias). You can see a working examples on Testwiki and read the November project update for more details.
- Translators in wikis where the mobile experience of Content Translation is available, can now discover articles in Wikiproject campaigns of their interest from the "All collection" category in the articles suggestion feature. Wikiproject Campaign organizers can use this feature, to help translators to discover articles of interest, by adding the
<page-collection> </page-collection>
tag to their campaign article list page on Meta-wiki. This will make those articles discoverable in the Content Translation tool. For more detailed information on how to use the tool and tag, please refer to the step-by-step guide. [1] - The Nuke feature, which enables administrators to mass delete pages, now has a multiselect filter for namespace selection. This enables users to select multiple specific namespaces, instead of only one or all, when fetching pages for deletion.
- The Nuke feature also now provides links to the userpage of the user whose pages were deleted, and to the pages which were not selected for deletion, after page deletions are queued. This enables easier follow-up admin-actions. Thanks to Chlod and the Moderator Tools team for both of these improvements. [2]
- The Editing Team is working on making it easier to populate citations from archive.org using the Citoid tool, the auto-filled citation generator. They are asking communities to add two parameters preemptively,
archiveUrl
andarchiveDate
, within the TemplateData for each citation template using Citoid. You can see an example of a change in a template, and a list of all relevant templates. [3] - One new wiki has been created: a Wikivoyage in Indonesian (
voy:id:
) [4] - Last week, all wikis had problems serving pages to logged-in users and some logged-out users for 30–45 minutes. This was caused by a database problem, and investigation is ongoing. [5]
- View all 19 community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week. For example, a bug in the Add Link feature has been fixed. Previously, the list of sections which are excluded from Add Link was partially ignored in certain cases. [6][7]
Updates for technical contributors
- Codex, the design system for Wikimedia, now has an early-stage implementation in PHP. It is available for general use in MediaWiki extensions and Toolforge apps through Composer, with use in MediaWiki core coming soon. More information is available in the documentation. Thanks to Doğu for the inspiration and many contributions to the library. [8]
- Wikimedia REST API users, such as bot operators and tool maintainers, may be affected by ongoing upgrades. On December 4, the MediaWiki Interfaces team began rerouting page/revision metadata and rendered HTML content endpoints on testwiki from RESTbase to comparable MediaWiki REST API endpoints. The team encourages active users of these endpoints to verify their tool's behavior on testwiki and raise any concerns on the related Phabricator ticket before the end of the year, as they intend to roll out the same change across all Wikimedia projects in early January. These changes are part of the work to replace the outdated RESTBase system.
- The 2024 Developer Satisfaction Survey is seeking the opinions of the Wikimedia developer community. Please take the survey if you have any role in developing software for the Wikimedia ecosystem. The survey is open until 3 January 2025, and has an associated privacy statement.
- There is no new MediaWiki version this week. [9]
Meetings and events
- The next meeting in the series of Wikimedia Foundation discussions with the Wikimedia Commons community will take place on December 12 at 8:00 UTC and at 16:00 UTC. The topic of this call is new media and new contributors. Contributors from all wikis are welcome to attend.

You can propose the page for deletion simce I'm not gonns work on it any more.
You don't respect the {{Being worked on}} on the page and feel the need to add your marks to the page anyway, No respext means no more work on it by me, so you'll have to find another tree to pee against. --Sb008 (talk) 07:53, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Sb008, the {{Being worked on}} template isn't something that you place on a page and walk away from it. Usually for similar templates, there is a leeway of a few hours given to tidy up the page and add a ref or two. In this case, more than 15 hours had passed between your last edit to the page and my maintenance tag edit. Adding those maintenance tags, brings the page to the attention of other folk who might like to help improve it. In any case, all editors on Wikipedia are volunteers, and if you don't feel like continuing to work on a page, you are free to leave it in its current state. If you do want to continue working on that page and you expect it to take some time, then I'd suggest that you move it to draftspace and continue there. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 08:23, 11 December 2024 (UTC)

Query about redirection and new page
[edit]Dear MPGuy2824, I need your help. In my sandbox I created the article Seidor, a Spanish multinational company, from the translation of the article in Spanish. It turns out that 'Seidor' already exists, and it is a redirect to the article 'Seidr', which was some kind of magic from the Nordics. I want to know if I can remove this redirect and move the article from the sandbox to Seidor. In the description of the article 'Seidr' there are different anglicised names like seidhr, seidh, seidr, seithr, seith or seid, and all these names already have their redirection to the Seidr page, but in it there is never the name 'Seidor', so I ask you if we can break this redirection and move the article from my sandbox to 'Seidor'. Thank you very much.
Ursulabela Ursulabela (talk) 09:56, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hi. The redirect Seidor was created 10 years ago. Given that, I have a different suggestion: If you think your draft is ready, then move your sandbox to Seidor (company). Then, you can convert 'Seidor' to a disambiguation page. After that you can file a request at Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests to move Seidor (company) to Seidor, and see if anyone objects. I suggest that you wait a week between steps 2 and 3. Happy editing! -MPGuy2824 (talk) 10:21, 18 December 2024 (UTC)

Solve this issue
[edit]Hi, Kindly solve this issue Draft:Kuruchikuppam Assembly constituency - IJohnKennady (talk) 15:53, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
- It met WP:NGEO in my opinion, so I've moved it to mainspace. Please add the winners of the two elections prior to that as well (1955 and 1959). Also, if you can find a good source that says that Kuruchikuppam and Couroussoucoupom are the same place it would be nice. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 08:05, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
yearly total list
[edit]Hi I was looking at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Database_reports/Top_new_article_reviewers#Last_365_days and while it shows my daily total (redirects) it doesn't show the yearly total, any help is appreciated, thanks--Ozzie10aaaa (talk) 14:30, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) @Ozzie10aaaa, I believe this database report sorts rankings based on the number of article reviews, with very low points given to redirects. For instance, my bot, DreamRimmer bot, is ranked 97th with 220 article reviews and 16544 redirect reviews. Another user, Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars, is ranked 96th with only 220 article reviews and 28 redirect reviews. You currently have 173 article reviews and 2995 redirect reviews that is why you are not on this list, as it only includes the top 100 reviewers for each time period. You can use this quarry query to get your review data. – DreamRimmer (talk) 15:00, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- ok, now that you touched on the point of article reviews https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Ozzie10aaaa/AfC_log I do AFC and I have approved alot(that are automatically reviewed) how are these counted towards my total article reviews?, thank you--Ozzie10aaaa (talk) 15:12, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- AFC reviews that are automatically reviewed (because you have the autopatrolled right) aren't counted towards that report, or the NPP annual awards. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 15:17, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- ok, in the future I need to do article reviews (AFC do not count)...I was taking a closer look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Database_reports/Top_new_article_reviewers#Last_365_days (for redirects at 30 days, 90 days and so on and other editors do have their redirects cumulatively counted) so per this https://quarry.wmcloud.org/query/88999 would I qualify for a redirect (or combined redirect+ article review) award at the end of the year for what I have done?, thank you--Ozzie10aaaa (talk) 15:29, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- [11] is the query that is used for the annual awards, and according to that you have more than 2000 redirect reviews which qualifies you for a "Redirect Ninja" award.
- There aren't any combined (articles+redirect) awards in Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Awards. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 15:55, 20 December 2024 (UTC)

- Just to clarify, the report only shows the top 100 article reviewers and does not consider the number of redirect reviews to get this. It is technically possible to have a high number of redirect reviews but have little to no article reviews, and so this report will not show that reviewer at all in the 365 day section. Practically this happens only rarely since most redirect reviewers also do a decent amount article reviewing. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 06:59, 24 December 2024 (UTC)

Question from Glacial223 (21:58, 21 December 2024)
[edit]Hello! I would like to add a direct quote from the Bible to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baptism_with_the_Holy_Spirit. I tried without an account but I think I was blocked for some reason or did it wrong. I am very un-techy. Can you please help me? Thank you so much! --Glacial223 (talk) 21:58, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Glacial223: Welcome to Wikipedia. I'd agree that it was ungrammatical, since it included both the bible quote and a paraphrased (explanatory) version of it in the same sentence. I think you should start a conversation (on the article's talk page) with the editor who reverted your edit, saying that you'd like the original bible quote included somehow.
- Since you are new to Wikipedia, I'd suggest that you start and complete WP:TWA. It would help you to feel a bit less overwhelmed (and a bit more "techy", as you put it). Happy editing! -MPGuy2824 (talk) 04:47, 22 December 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Greetings, sir. I'd like to ask how can I create a new page or write a new article in Wikipedia? --Abdullatiftig3428 (talk) 00:31, 24 December 2024 (UTC)

A favor from you!!!
[edit]Hey, MP. I need your help with this. I have recently edited Emmett/Furla Oasis Films with all the sources I can find to help backup some of what I added.
Somehow, sources I looked up were unreliable; I may have added a portion of them on my edits by accident. Also, because MoviePass and its parent were dissolved due to chapter 7 bankruptcy, does it mean EFO went under too?
Here are my contributions here: [12] [13] [14] [15]
I feel like I may have not only made bad edits to this page with bad results, but I also think it wrongfully contributes to my concerning "edit farming".
Please look into this. I would help me out a lot. Thanks.
Darrion N. Brown 🙂 (my talk page / my sandbox) 05:59, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
- @DBrown SPS: I don't know what "edit farming" is and I'm not sure what you are expecting of me here. I looked at the diffs that you sent and I can see some recognizable names in the refs added (la times, hollywood reporter, etc) that I would expect to be considered WP:RS. Has someone complained about some of your other references? If you now think some of the sources are unreliable, then you can edit the article to remove them. Not every edit on Wikipedia needs to be perfect, but as long as articles are being improved (even slowly) and mistakes are corrected, then all is good, IMO. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 06:44, 24 December 2024 (UTC)

Scripts++ Newsletter – Issue 26
[edit]Hello everyone, and welcome to the 26th issue of the Wikipedia Scripts++ Newsletter, covering all our favorite new and updated user scripts since 1 August 2024. At press time, over 94% of the world has legally fallen prey to the merry celebrations of "Christmas", and so shall you soon. It's been a quiet 4 months, and we hope to see you with way more new scripts next year. Happy holidays! Aaron Liu (talk) 05:06, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
Got anything good? Tell us about your new, improved, old, or messed-up script here!
Featured script
[edit]- Very useful for changelist patrollers, DiffUndo, by Nardog, is this edition's featured script. Taking inspiration from WP:AutoWikiBrowser's double-click-to-undo feature, it adds an undo button to every line of every diff from "show changes", optimizing partial reverts with your favorite magic spell and nearly fulfilling m:Community Wishlist/Wishes/Partial revert undo.
Miscellaneous
[edit]- Doğu/Adiutor, a recent WP:Twinkle/WP:RedWarn-like userscript that follows modern WMF UI design, is now an extension. However, its sole maintainer has left the project, which still awaits WMF mw:code stewardship (among some audits) to be installed on your favorite WMF wikis.
- DannyS712, our former chief editor, has ascended to MediaWiki and the
greenerpurpley pastures of PHP with commits creating Special:NamespaceInfo and the__EXPECTUNUSEDTEMPLATE__
magic word to exclude a template from Special:UnusedTemplates! I wonder if Wikipedia has a templaters' newsletter...
Improve a script
[edit]- Many of our favorite scripts such as Fred Gandt/userResourceManager, Guarapiranga/search-shortcuts, and Bradv/Superlinks haven't been updated for Vector 2022. You could be the one to change that!
- Elominius/media timer and PrimeHunter/Search sort work, yet have alien user interface design. Someone could improve them...
- BilledMammal/Move+ needs updating to order list of pages handle lists of pages to move correctly regardless of the discussion's page, so that we may avoid repeating fiasco history.
Requested scripts
[edit]We need scripts that...
- allow you to edit {{sfn}} references graphically a la Ingenuity/ReferenceEditor
- copy specific named references from other pages to help with splitting and whatnot
- make adding icons/links to the top toolbar (or other portlets) much easier
- graphically generate a {{source assess table}}
- award a Four Award
- ...and many more, all available at Wikipedia:User scripts/Requests. Thanks to the editors at US/R—including Nardog, User:Novem Linguae, User:Jeeputer, and many more!—for their work in processing userscript requests this past year.
Updated scripts
[edit]- Andrybak/Unsigned helper forks Anomie/unsignedhelper to add support for binary search, automatic edit summaries after generating the {{unsigned}} template, support for {{undated}}, and support for generating while syntax highlighting is on.
- Pour one out: DreamRimmer/User not around forks Andrybak/Not around to allow configuration precise to a number of days (from the original precision of years).
- Red-tailed hawk/cv revdel forks Enterprisey/cv-revdel to automatically add CopyPatrol reports.
- Polygnotus/Move+ updates BilledMammal's classic Move+ to add automattic watchlisting of all pages—except the target page(s)—changed while processing a move.
Newly maintained scripts
[edit]- Administrators only! Novem Linguae/UnblockReview forks the now-broken Enterprisey/unblock-review to review unblock requests with a graphical interface.
New scripts
[edit]- 1AmNobody24: Find Link provides a shortcut to its namesake tool, Edward/Find link, which helps de-WP:ORPHAN articles.
- Andrybak: Contribs ranger (pictured) generates links to a limited range of user contributions, log items, or page history. You see, it's not just contribs!
- CanonNi/VoteVisualizer is a rewrite of Pythoncoder/voteSymbols that makes everything saner to configure.
- When viewing Category:Articles missing coordinates with coordinates on Wikidata, Jeeputer/coordInserter adds links to automatically insert coordinates into the article selected.
- To satiate archaeology and curiosity (the same thing, perhaps?), JJPMaster/AfC time logger logs the time it takes for a user to review each submission to Wikipedia:Articles for creation.
- Natdog/InsertAnyChar adds a searchable list of all Unicode characters to the 2010 source editor.
Question from HP-48Genius (07:05, 25 December 2024)
[edit]Hey, so, this isn't strictly about editing, but I don't know who else to ask about this. What if I created a new Wikipedia page where anybody can write a snippet of a story? I call it Tales of the Wikipedians. Thanks for your time! HP-48Genius (talk) 07:05, 25 December 2024 (UTC)

There are many more Wikiprojects like that, some are limited to a region of the world, while some are limited to a particular theme (e.g. Tropical cyclones). -MPGuy2824 (talk) 09:41, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
