Richard Arata (リチャード アラタ, Richādo Arata) is the creator of the RPG Protoporos and the founder of the Protoporos island. He is first introduced during the Protoporos arc in a flashback of an interview, which transitions into exposition about his retirement and founding of the Protoporos island.
Appearance[]
Arata presents himself as an eccentric, allowing his hair to grow to enormous length. He also wears a pair of circular frame tinted glasses to conceal his eyes.
In Chapter 471, he wears his hair in a pony-tail.
Personality[]
Arata feels like the place he belongs is "behind the scenes." He has a desire to watch over everything without direct interference from himself. He will go to great lengths to achieve his ambitions and seems to have no qualms about manipulating, using and/or sacrificing others for his own desires.
His dream is to fulfill his "delusion" by having Protoporos on an entire country. He believes that only strong, as in people who have previously survived tough situations, can kick-start Protoporos nation. Therefore, unbeknownst to the other developers, he used the island as a "beta test" to find the strong people that will lead him to the "true Protoporos."
History[]
Ever since Richard Arata was a child, he always felt that something was watching over him. This later developed into him having out of body experiences, where he felt like he was looking at himself from above. This gave him a perspective of "extreme objectivity," where he was able to clearly understand the feelings of himself and others. This allowed him to become very successful in life, specifically with his Protoporos franchise.
The original Protoporos game was launched around 30 years ago and is widely known as the "forerunner of all rpgs." His game company later released the MMORPG Protoporos Online, which became a major success. The franchise made him a multi-billionaire. At some point Daiba Hiromi, Kurashiki and Fujitsubo were hired to his game company.
Eventually Arata began to want to watch over everything, not just himself. He also had a desire to make Protoporos a reality. When an opportunity came to do this, he retired and disappeared without a trace. He also made over one hundred billion yen from selling the Protoporos rights and the company.
6 years before the Protoporos arc, Arata appeared in front of Daiba, with an American Express card containing 50 billion yen. Arata gave it to Daiba, entrusting him to buy Grivia Island and build Protoporos on it.
Arata appeared again to help with the development of Off-Pro. He lead and instructed the developers and would even forego sleep when there were problems.
It can be inferred that before he left, he inputted a password to access the main computer.
