Has anyone ever used the auto-response/"vacation message" feature in Gmail?

If so, do you know whether it's smart enough not to send the "I'm on vacation" message to mailing lists?

I'm considering not taking a computer with me on my upcoming trip (eep!), and would like to set up an auto-response if so, but it's something I've never done in my entire life because I've gotten one too many "I'm on vacation" replies through mailing lists I was on, and I don't want to be THAT PERSON.

I was just noticing that my Facebook group memberships make me seem pretty negative:

That's 21/49 groups opposing something. On the other hand, my group memberships do express my positive feelings about single-payer health care, Erin Judge, homeschool alumni, a Eugene-Vancouver high-speed rail corridor, the 2009 Habitat for Humanity Build-a-Thon, stumptuous.com, California high-speed rail, Eli's H2B AIDS Ride, the Helpdesk, allowing gays to give blood, queer men, CS people, abortion, the Sarong Theorem Archive, and the Science Center, so I don't seem totally negative.

OK, back to work.
