As of yesterday, I have been a graduate student at Portland State for longer than I was a graduate student at Berkeley.

That also means that I've been at Portland State longer than I've had any other job.

Shooting for thesis proposal by my 30th birthday (December 2010) and graduating in 2012, btw.

Whoo timeline! That sounds eminently doable. And I don't know if you genuinely like the experience more or you're just a masochist, but I congratulate you on having the fortitude to hold down your grad student position for as long as you have without killing anyone (as far as I know of). It'll be 2014 before I can say I've been here longer than any other job, and that's assuming that even comes to pass...

I don't think I'm (that kind of) masochist and I don't know whether I like the experience more than you do, but I do know grad school sucks a lot less than everything else I've tried.
