Suffocation is a debuff that is inflicted when the player is caught in falling Sand, Silt, or Slush. 4 ticks of 5 damage are dealt every second. Drowning will not apply this debuff. Damage numbers bounce like other debuffs that deal continuous damage.

Notes[]
- Suffocation will only be caused by the blocks listed above; other blocks, such as Obsidian that forms over a player, will be completely harmless.
- Suffocation can occur if any part of the player is trapped by a block.
- If the player is playing the Secret world seed For the Worthy, ash has a chance of collapsing when hit as if affected by gravity. However, the player will not gain the Suffocation debuff from being trapped in it.
- The player takes only 2 ticks of 5 damage every second when standing still and the shiny stone is equipped.
