Russian policy paper says foreign NGOs step up extremist activity aimed against Russia

Russia views the support of such activities by unfriendly countries, including the initiation of "color revolutions," as an extremist threat

MOSCOW, December 28. /TASS/. Extremist groups, including foreign ones, increasingly often attempt to destabilize the social and political situation in Russia, according to the country’s updated Strategy for Countering Extremism.

"There is a desire of extremist organizations, including those operating from abroad, to consolidate their efforts in order to destabilize the social and political situation in the Russian Federation," the strategy says. "There is an increase in the activity of participation of foreign and international non-governmental organizations in anti-Russian extremist activities."

Russia views the support of such activities by unfriendly countries, including the initiation of "color revolutions," as an extremist threat. The threats also include falsification of world history, unlawful encroachments on the cultural and historical heritage of Russia, actions to radicalize society, and assistance to international extremist and terrorist organizations. Terrorism is named as the most dangerous manifestation of extremism.
