Everyone's Hero is the fifth episode of Survivor: Pearl Islands.
Story[]
Night 12[]
After Tribal Council, Jon Dalton spoke in confessional that he was surprised that Shawn Cohen voted against his ally Burton Roberts. Shawn himself said that Burton annoyed him slightly and he wasn't liking the alliance he made with him. Trish Dunn, however, speaks in her confessional that she simply wasn't buying it. Shawn continues his confessional by stating that two people voted for Christa Hastie, and one of them is gone right now. Michelle Tesauro then proclaims in a confessional of her own that she is in deep trouble with the rest of the Drake tribe.
Day 13[]
Morning comes to Morgan, and Rupert Boneham is shown walking the beach. He talks about how the positioning of their shelter was not good at all.
Rupert |
“ | When I first got to the Morgan camp, the beach was pounding away at their shelter. The surf is coming up and they don't realize that as the moon is changing, the tide's gonna raise another 2 or 3 feet, and they're using logs to try and stop the tide from taking their shelter away. It's not gonna work. | ” |
Ryan Opray and Rupert talk about moving the shelter further inland, so the Morgan tribe come together to move their shelter about 40 feet away from the shore, clearing debris and plants as they do so. Osten Taylor asks where the shelter is being placed, but no one answers him. He later speaks in confessional that he feels it wasn't necessary to do it right that moment. He openly explains to his tribemates and Rupert that the mosquitoes would bite them more and there's a higher chance that a snake might come around the shelter. Rupert talks in confessional about how the Morgan tribe is seemingly working themselves into not working, and that their arguing and bickering is only making things worse for them.
A pelican is seen settling down near Drake's campsite, and the cameras move to Trish and Michelle in the water. Trish has immediate concerns that Rupert might be giving away too much information about the inner workings of the Drakes. Jon concurs with Trish's worries, also thinking that the Morgans are buttering up Rupert. Sandra Diaz-Twine talks in confessional about how she wants to know all about what happened over at Morgan and what Rupert talked about with them as soon as possible when he comes back. Shawn then remarks that three days on the other tribe is quite a long time.
Over on Morgan, Rupert is shown drinking water, speaking in a confessional about how hungry and thirsty he is. At the very least, he knows he can provide food for the Morgans in the form of fish. Andrew Savage tells Rupert that all those fish jumping around in the water are seemingly waiting for him, with Rupert responding that he knows they are.
Rupert |
“ | I'm hoping to take Ryan out there and I'll swim around with him and just kinda be his buddy and see if he can go catch a fish... Ryno, nice young kid. Very willing to learn, wanting to be a provider, not knowing how to do the providing. Willing to learn on the spear, willing to go out with me, I'm very comfortable with him. | ” |
Ryan does a good job catching fish after taking Rupert's advice. However, Ryan accidentally lets a fish get away after trying to pull it off the skewers of the spear, which made Rupert let off a disgruntled roar. Rupert later said that he feels bad for him, though. Ryan and Tijuana Bradley are talking about the one that got away, and as they're talking about it, Rupert returns with a bundle of fish, which the Morgan tribe applauds and cheers him on for providing. Andrew praises Rupert in confessional, stating that Rupert is an amazing worker. Rupert gets a quick kiss on the cheek from Tijuana, and Rupert is beaming whilst drinking from the canteen of water.
Ryan O. |
“ | Probably the smartest thing this tribe ever did was get a hold of Rupert. (chuckling) | ” |

Day 14[]
The night passes and the sun rises once again on Morgan. Rupert, once again, is shown walking the beach. He opens the Tree Mail chest, and inside is a paddle with a clue about the upcoming Reward Challenge. Tijuana excitedly talks about what she thinks the reward might be, which is a way for themselves to clean up, and possibly something to keep themselves sheltered from the elements to keep themselves dry. At said Reward Challenge, Jeff Probst re-introduces Rupert to his tribe, minus Burton, who was voted out at the last Tribal Council, however, Rupert is competing against Drake for this challenge. Rupert shows that he will compete in challenges no matter what tribe he's playing for. With his help, Morgan is pulling ahead, and quickly. Drake fell massively behind due to Jon using a rudder to paddle instead of steering which sent Drake off course. Andrew races into the jungle to collect the gold idol and quickly returns. He climbs the ladder and in a landslide victory, Morgan win the reward. Rupert is then given the chance to join the Morgans on the reward, or to instead immediately return to the Drakes, and without any hesitation, he chooses the latter option, telling them that he loves them but he just wants to go back home to the Drake camp while Sandra hugs him.
After the reward, Andrew states how important the winning momentum is for the Morgans, and that it was the first time he's really seen the Drakes falling apart in a challenge, then talks about the portable shower. Darrah talked about how respected she felt that none of the guys were looking over at her while she was naked. Ryan talks about how good it feels to be in high spirits.
Back at Drake, the tribe members are happy to have Rupert back with them again. Even Jon is giving him a big hug.
Rupert |
“ | I love being back home. When Jeff said, You can enjoy your bounty or go home', there was never even a question. I didn't look back; I went home. I didn't need to go shower in the loot. I needed to go bond with my tribe. | ” |
Rupert then tells the rest of the Drakes all that happened while he was kidnapped with the Morgan tribe. When half-jokingly asked by Jon if they were trying to recruit him, Rupert laughs the notion off because he knows that they know a Drake is winning the whole thing. The Drake tribe all huddle together in a big group hug. As per the stipulations of the Reward Challenge, Andrew arrives by boat to loot an item from the Drakes. Rupert consoles Andrew by saying he can take whatever the (expletive) he wants, but wants to show him what he wants Andrew to take. Rupert lets Andrew take a bag of rice, and pours some more into the bag than Andrew intended to take, later stating in confessional that it wasn't a looting, but simply "friends helping friends". He also worries that by being in Morgan's good graces while being the patriarch of the Drakes makes him wonder what his own tribe thinks of him.
Jon and Shawn find a goblet in their Tree Mail chest and a clue to what the Immunity Challenge will be, and everyone immediately figures out that it will be a gross food challenge of some sort. Rupert gives some advice in eating bad tasting food, while Michelle speaks in confessional that she has no problem at all with what food she might have to eat. Jon hatches a devious plan to have Michelle act like she is loathing this challenge, and Michelle happily goes along with it.
As Rupert is wading around in the shallow tide, he finds an injured juvenile snake and calls for someone to get a bandage to mend its wound. Jon yells out that Rupert should bring it with him to the challenge, which he does. When both tribes make it to the challenge, Jeff asks Rupert who the new tribe member is, alluding to the snake, and Rupert tells him that its name is Balboa, how he found him and bandaged him up, and that it would be Drake's tribe mascot. Andrew returns the Immunity Idol and Probst reveals the various gross foods, including the worst of the bunch, "Jeff's Special". During the challenge, Michelle blows her cover of being terrible at the challenge against Ryan. Shawn buries his head in his hand and Jon shakes his head in disbelief. When Jon is called down to the wheel, Jeff asks what Jon's crossed arm and fingers out pose is all about. Jon says that's who he is, that one hand is the "F", and the other a "Y", and in the middle is Jonny Fairplay, and stating (lying) that he "plays fair". Before Jon and Darrah compete, Jon in a joking matter suggests they kiss beforehand, and Darrah brushes that off with a dry, deadpan tone of voice. Jeff asks Darrah, if she didn't have a boyfriend, what the chances were she would ever hook up with Jon. Darrah simply responds "None." which draws a roar of laughter from the benches. She adds on with "No offense", to which Rupert says "No offense, but none." while laughing more. Jon raises his glass to her, saying "to you" before he drinks. Jon finishes his drink quickly while taunting Darrah with sick noises. She's unfazed and finishes her drink. The challenge continues with both tribes deadlocked at 7. Morgan picks Sandra to compete in the tiebreaker, while Drake chooses Darrah. Darrah manages to finish her drink and sardine first, winning Immunity for Morgan.
Day 15[]
Sandra is upset that it's her fault they lost, and the other tribe members try to cheer her up. Michelle says that she should've sold her own act better so the Morgans would possibly have picked her to compete in the tiebreaker. Christa consoles her by saying that all she could do was her best and no one should chastise her for that. Jon is not happy that Michelle blew her cover while he talks with Shawn about who they should vote for. Jon flips a censored finger and says that that's what he thinks of Michelle's pride and ego. She feels sick to her stomach about the whole situation while talking with Rupert. Rupert, unfazed by the vomiting, asks her what she feels would move the vote away from her and onto Shawn. Rupert speaks in confessional about how Michelle says that she works hard at camp, and harder than Shawn does, and doesn't eat more than her fair share of portioned rice and fish.
That night at Tribal Council, Jeff talks about how momentum has swung the other way. Sandra discusses that it sucks that it was because of her that Drake is at Tribal Council right now and apologizes for her failure. Sandra adds on that the Drakes did not expect to lose this challenge and that things happen. Jon talks in detail about how the previous Reward Challenge was the first challenge that the tribe lost in his opinion, causing Rupert to throw his head upwards in frustration. Jeff scolds the players by saying that throwing a challenge is a bold and cocky move, then asks Michelle if that was what the tribe had in mind. Michelle says that it is a load of crap to think that the momentum Morgan is having had anything to do with the Drakes throwing the previous Immunity Challenge. Rupert lays his thoughts out by telling Jeff that throwing the challenge was the stupidest thing the Drakes could have done, but he couldn't convince them not to do it. He goes on to say that the only good thing about losing that challenge was all the intel he got from his time spent at Morgan, and that he and the Drakes can use that against them later on. The tribe then proceeds to vote. Even though Sandra failed to come through for the Drake tribe, it was Michelle's blunder at the Immunity Challenge that cost her. The tribe spoke unanimously to vote her out.
Challenges[]
Challenge: Paddle For Paddles
The tribes must row to one of four floating crates, where one person dives down to grab two ladder rungs. Once all eight are collected, they row back to shore. One person runs to an old well to pull up a bucket with an idol inside, bringing it back. Meanwhile, the rest build a puzzle ladder with the rungs gathered and the two side panels. Then, the runner climbs it with the idol. First runner to the top wins.
Reward: Bush shower, toiletries, cooking pot, rain jackets, and two jerrycans; loot one item from losing tribe; piece of treasure map
Additional Stipulation: As part of the kidnapping of Rupert Boneham, he would have to participate in the challenge as part of the Morgan tribe. If Morgan won the challenge, he could choose to temporarily remain on Morgan to participate in the reward.
Winner: Morgan (Rupert Boneham chose to immediately return to Drake)
Challenge: Survivor Smoothie
Jeff has a spinning wheel of seafood/island-related items, which will be blended into a smoothie after they're spun up. In a tie, each tribe chooses the other tribe's representative for the tiebreaker, which involves six of the twelve items on the wheel.
