An ejection, also known as a disqualification, or expulsion, is a rare method of elimination in Survivor.
So far, only one contestant has been officially ejected from the American version of the show.
Occurrences[]
The first, and so far only, official ejection occurred on Day 36 of Survivor: Island of the Idols. Contestant Dan Spilo was ejected at the final six for repeated inappropriate behavior involving female contestants and production members.
Unofficial Ejections[]
Although not official ejections, the circumstances surrounding the following contestants' exits from the game have either alluded to their eliminations being an ejection in actuality or resulted in the public perceiving it as such.
On Day 13 of Survivor: Caramoan, Brandon Hantz was verbally voted out at a challenge site due to threatening tribemate Phillip Sheppard of physical assault following a misunderstanding. Corinne Kaplan and Erik Reichenbach have claimed that this verbal vote was staged and that production required the tribe to vote him out at the challenge to show him being eliminated onscreen instead of removing him offscreen (as Dan was).[1][2] Brandon himself has implied that his removal was staged by revealing that he was placed in a separate tent by production while waiting for the challenge to start.[3]
On Day 19 of Survivor: Game Changers, Jeff Varner was verbally voted out at Tribal Council following his outing of Zeke Smith as transgender. Though no one involved with the season has claimed this to be an ejection, his exit is often considered to be in the same vein as Brandon's.
On Day 3 of Survivor 42, Jackson Fox was evacuated from the game as a result of the health risks posed by lithium withdrawal, the usage of which he did not disclose to production until the day before filming started. Due to the Survivor Rulebook requiring the contestants to disclose such medications, which Jeff Probst reminded him of while talking with him shortly before his evacuation, some fans have viewed his exit as him being ejected for not disclosing his lithium usage.
International Ejections[]
- The first ejection from an international version of the game came during Sweden's Expedition Robinson 1999, when Susanna Wahlberg was removed from the game after suffering a neck injury; although she was initially cleared to continue competing, she was unable to participate in any challenges, and thus was ejected, allowing Klas Granström to return after winning a duel against Deniz Özen. Both had previously been voted out.
- Anna Maria Vitali was ejected from Survivor Italia after it was discovered she had failed to inform production that she had cancer.
- Oliver Kempe was ejected from Sweden's Expedition Robinson 2004 for allegedly taking a sea turtle hostage while holding a machete and demanding a ransom in the form of food. It has been reported that he threatened to kill the turtle if he didn't get food from production. His tribemates said they didn't want him to kill the turtle, and Johanna Hakala tried to talk him out of doing so, but this enraged Oliver, who threatened Johanna with the machete and injured the turtle. After production threatened to notify police of his actions, Oliver surrendered the turtle and was ejected from the show. Oliver claimed he didn't mean to threat Johanna, and the injury to the turtle was the result of an accident.[4][5]
- Vasilis Athanasopoulos was ejected from Survivor Greece-Turkey: Panama for killing two lizards and continuously walking around naked.
- Frans Baats was ejected from the Dutch/Belgian Expeditie Robinson 2007 for aggressive behaviour.
- Meir Tzarfati was ejected from Survivor 10: Pearl Islands for asking the boat crew to drive away from Caniba camp and got hostile when they refused.

- Luiz Nascimento was ejected from Brazil's No Limite 4 for smuggling in medicine through his shoe.
- Aleksandra Nakova and Stanija Dobrojević were ejected from the joint Serbian and Croatian Survivor Srbija VIP: Costa Rica for getting into a physical fight. Aleksandra claims that she staged the fight because she wanted to go home.[6]
- Leif Svensson was ejected from Sweden's Robinson: Revanschen due to his continued ignorant behavior towards production after receiving multiple warnings not to go on dangerous adventures across the island due to the serious risks they posed to his health.
- Michael Backer and Mathias Lynge were both ejected from Denmark's Robinson Ekspeditionen 2017 after repeated offenses of asking for fish from a local village.[7]
- Radim Nigrin was ejected from Robinsonův ostrov 2018 for openly stating that he intended to share the prize money with the whole jury.

- Teheiura Teahui was ejected from Koh-Lanta: La Légende for smuggling food from local fishermen to his camp.

- Asimina Chatziandreou and Katerina Dalaka were ejected from Survivor: All Star (Greece) for using a mobile phone.
- Giorkas Pilidis and Ilias Gotsis were ejected from Survivor: All Star (Greece) for using a mobile phone and stealing food respectively.
- Afroditi Skafida was ejected from Survivor: All Star (Greece) for stealing food.
- Pierre-Alexandre Guillot was ejected from Survivor Québec (2023) for breaking an unspecified rule.[8][9]
- Francesco Benigno was ejected from L'Isola dei Famosi 18 due to inappropriate behavior.
- Ángel Cristo Jr. was ejected from Supervivientes 2024 for going beyond the island's parameters in an attempt to escape the show.
Impact[]
As a result of Spilo's ejection and castaway Kellee Kim coming forward to tell her story, CBS and the Survivor production team released a statement on December 17, 2019 regarding the handling of similar occurrences in future seasons, including the hiring of another on-site professional, stricter pre-production guidelines (i.e. the reporting and handling of inappropriate actions) as well as sensitivity training and incident reporting procedures for all cast and production crew members.
