There's always someone to fight! There's just no one left worth fighting... |

—"Little Homeschool" |
Jasper is a Homeworld Gem and former antagonist who was first indirectly mentioned in "The Message" and made her official debut in "The Return". Originally sent to Earth to aid Peridot on her mission, she became corrupted after fusing with one of the Corrupted Gems that she had held captive in "Earthlings". She was healed alongside the rest of the Corrupted Gems in "Change Your Mind" and for a time lived on her own in the wooded outskirts of Beach City. She was accidentally shattered by Steven during "Fragments" and was subsequently restored by him. She now resides in Little Homeworld, beginning to learn a new way of life.
Appearance
Uncorrupted
Jasper has tangerine skin with reddish-orange markings on her face and arms. She has amber eyes and plump lips. Her gemstone is located where a normal nose would be. She has thick, beige-white-colored flowing hair. Physique-wise, she is the archetype Quartz Gem soldier; she has a muscular body and stands both taller and wider than Garnet, an indication of her immense strength and durability.
Pre-regeneration (Debut)
She wore a sleeveless bodysuit, similar to Peridot's, with a dark mahogany V-neck collar and a yellow diamond in the center. The torso of the bodysuit is maroon, and the legs are dark mahogany. She wore red boots with dark red toe caps.
Corrupted
After her corruption, she became similar in body type to Ocean Jasper and Biggs Jasper, gaining teal striped spikes across her body, losing her eyes, and gaining two ram-like horns on the sides of her head and two smaller horns erupting from her eye sockets. Spikes protrude from multiple areas of her body, and she appears to have beige-colored mane/tuft of hair growing around her neck. Blotches of teal and orange make up her skin, and her teeth became sharp and orange.
Post-regeneration
After getting healed from her corruption by Steven and the Diamonds in "Change Your Mind", she still wears a sleeveless bodysuit, however, the torso now has a different design. She now wears a brown-orange square neck tank top with two, slanted pale orange rectangles, an upside-down brown triangle on top and a brown triangle inside the orange rectangles. She also keeps the horns and two teal-colored markings from her corruption, one where her right shoulder and bicep connect and the other covering the thumb and index finger of her left hand.
Post-shattering (Current)
After being shattered and then put back together by Steven and the Diamond's essence, her form has extra scarring. Her left horn is sliced in half, revealing a lime-green inside, the red band on her face has a split under her right eye. The colors of the top half of her bodysuit have been inverted and is now a v-neck similar to her first outfit, and the knees are ripped.
Personality
“ |
Jasper is a bully in the truest sense. Deep down, she's afraid there's something wrong with her, so she has to feed her ego. She has to put other Gems down to stay on top. Who she is and where she's from gnaws at her all the time. She has a fantastic reputation, she's considered the greatest Quartz soldier produced on Earth, and that might impress other Gems, but it will never be good enough for her. She will always feel held back, and she'll always feel the need to go further to get ahead. The Gems live in a society with a very rigid social order and caste system, and Jasper has completely bought into that, and her self-worth is attached to it. Because she loves honor, fighting, making her mark, and winning the battle, she'll actually go against her programming a little bit just to be the winner. So she can be self-destructive at times. She is tragically obsessed with proving her superiority. |
” |
—Rebecca Sugar, Ian Jones-Quartey, - Steven Universe: Art & Origins |
Jasper is ruthless and headstrong, as well as a brutal combatant. As a high-ranking Gem soldier and veteran of The Rebellion, Jasper is very authoritative and militaristic which directly affected her former subordinates, Peridot and Lapis Lazuli. She does not care about them, does not bother to heed their warnings or concerns, and will not hesitate to browbeat them into submission if they complain or disagree with her. The prejudice that Jasper exercises based on combat experience leads her to look down upon beings that appear weaker to her.
Her attitude towards those whom she considers having proven themselves in battle, however, is a much more positive and respectful one. When she first arrives on Earth, she quickly dismisses Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl as weaklings not worth her time. She did, however, express disappointment after finding out that Rose Quartz was not present because she wants to face her in battle, as she respects her as the military commander of the Crystal Gems. Likewise, this causes her to be confused and frustrated as to why Rose apparently shapeshifted into a human boy to fight.
Jasper will also act hypocritically and against Homeworld's standards if it means securing her victory and staying on top. An example of this is when Jasper fuses with Lapis Lazuli into Malachite in order to defeat the Crystal Gems, an action that is considered taboo on Homeworld.
The reasoning for Jasper's aggressive personality and hypocritical actions is because of her origins on Earth - the failed Gem colony planet. Because Earth is regarded as a failure on Homeworld, Jasper has developed self-image issues, believing that she might be a failure herself due to being made on Earth. In order to prove to herself that she isn't a failure, Jasper will insult others and constantly have the desire to prove her superiority to others in order to keep her ego intact. Jasper has to make sure that she always comes out on top so her thoughts of being a failure don't consume her, and if she has to break rules to win, she will. As shown in "Crack the Whip", Jasper talks down to Amethyst while brutally beating her up to show herself how powerful she is. After facing constant defeat at the hands of the Crystal Gems, Jasper becomes desperate and even captures Corrupted Gems in order to ensure her victory. Jasper even fuses with one and becomes corrupted herself. Once Jasper is semi-corrupted, the thoughts of being a failure and the rage she feels for Rose Quartz causes her to ultimately take on a monstrous form. As seen in "Chille Tid", if Jasper can't come out on top, she becomes enraged and driven to an almost insane state. Rebecca Sugar explains in the podcast that it comes from her origins by being made in the Beta Kindergarten, which is considered a failure on the Earth colony, making Jasper wanting to prove her worth because everyone around her knows she's from Earth's Beta Kindergarten and therefore that she must be flawed on some level, and she feels she can never escape being associated with Rose Quartz even though they were both from different sides, Ian Jones-Quartey states that she feels she's fundamentally wrong and that she doesn't deserve the reputation she has as an example of how the system on Homeworld can fail Gems who don't quite fit the mold; she is a model Gem, but she never internally feels she deserves her reputation.
Jasper also holds a vendetta against Rose Quartz for being the one to shatter Pink Diamond and holds absolutely no respect for the Crystal Gems. The only reason Jasper returned to Earth wasn't to escort Peridot like she was supposed to but to destroy Rose and the remnants of her army.
“ |
I see how you do it now, Rose. You want Gems after they're worthless, you wait until after they've lost. Because when you're at the bottom... you'll follow anyone who makes you feel like... less of a failure... |
” |
—"Earthlings" |
When asked why Jasper, unlike Peridot and Lapis, refused help from Steven, Rebecca Sugar says:
“ |
Jasper is very different than Peridot and Lapis. Unlike them, she has a deep hate for herself because of her origins on Earth. She is determined to never be weak or vulnerable. So at the point when she's the lowest, there's no way she'd ever accept help because she believes she doesn't deserve it. Peridot and Lapis both believed they deserved better than what happened to them, but not Jasper. She went back to Earth to face her demons, and she lost. She's consumed by her own self-pity.[2] |
” |
Even after being healed, Jasper's personality is untouched. Though she finally sees Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond and Steven as separate entities, she's still rebellious towards him, and still refuses any help he offers her. Though, currently, she is opening up more to Steven after she lost to a fight against him, which is represented as she says that he can do what he wants after he asked if he could visit her sometime. It is unknown if she will try to open up to the other Gems.
With no Diamond to serve and nowhere to go, all Jasper has left is to train. She channels all of her power and her anger into her training, believing it is not something that should be hidden or locked away. When conversing with Steven, she tells him not to be afraid of his power as he and the other Gems are, saying he should embrace his power and prove he is strong. Jasper only acknowledges the strength of others, as seen when she finally respects Steven after shattering her and bows before him.
After being accidentally shattered by Steven and subsequently revived, Jasper acknowledges his incredible power and pledges her loyalty to him, calling Steven her Diamond, and defending him in "Homeworld Bound" when Pearl angrily asks him where he had been during the events of the episode "Fragments". With someone else to serve, she quickly follows Steven and is pleased to see him reject his friends, the people Jasper views as weak. At the same time, she is visibly affected when Steven rejects her support as well, believing that she can no longer help him either and telling her to find something better to do with her life. Jasper watches with a sad face as Steven leaves home, and her current mindset after this is unknown.
"The Future" shows Jasper living in Little Homeworld as she busts through walls to confront Steven for not taking her with him, and bids him goodbye as she breaks through another wall.
History
Abilities
“ |
She's even got frictional rock melt. It's glass all the way to the back. Actually, I, uh, I've never seen an exit hole this perfect... Wait, no! Don't fight her! Are you not seeing this? She's the ultimate Quartz! |
” |
—Peridot, "Beta" |
Jasper possesses standard Gem abilities: bubbling, shapeshifting, fusion, regeneration, agelessness, gravity shifting, weapon-Summoning, photokinesis, gem storage, and superhuman strength/durability.
All Era-1 Gems have various powers, including the ability to invoke a weapon, change shape, and strength, agility, speed, and skill beyond human capabilities. Jasper can also take refuge in her gemstone after being wounded to heal. She is also capable of fusion, as shown when she fuses with Lapis Lazuli to form Malachite and later a Corrupted Gem to form a centaur-like monstrosity.
Being a Quartz Gem, her creation was to fit the role of a soldier within Gem culture. According to Peridot (a certified Kindergartener skilled enough to identify the type of Gem that emerged from a particular exit hole with a glance), Jasper is the 'ultimate' Quartz, made completely perfect, implying she is a superior specimen even among her own kind. She is considered the greatest Quartz produced on Earth. As such, she has incredible amounts of physical strength and stamina, making her one of the most physically imposing Gems seen thus far. She is also strong of will, as it takes all of Lapis's concentration to subdue Jasper.
Fusions
- When fused with Lapis Lazuli, they form Malachite.
- When fused with the Ocean Jasper, they form Zebra Jasper.
Skillset
- Crash Helmet Proficiency: By gathering her resolve and thirst for battle, Jasper can summon her weapon: a tangerine, crystalline helmet. The helmet acts both as a weapon and armor; a hammer-like protrusion in the front of the helmet allows her to use it to charge, slam, and headbutt her opponent, in the shape of a yellow diamond, while a clear, orange-tinted visor extends down, covering the upper part of her face and her gemstone. The strength of the helmet rivals that of Garnet's gauntlets, as Jasper was shown continuously countering her attacks. A fast swing from the front of the helmet was hard enough to poof Amethyst. Its usefulness as armor is shown when she is struck with an extremely powerful blow from Stevonnie using Rose Quartz's sword that would have gone directly into her head without it. While the corrupted Ocean Jasper was riding is poofed from the force of the strike slamming Jasper into her, Jasper was not.
- Axe Helmet Proficiency: As seen in "Fragments", Jasper has upgraded her Crash Helmet, containing two axe-like blades on the sides of it, which may possibly be related to the horns on her head.
- Martial Arts: Further reflecting the similarities between herself and Amethyst, Jasper is likewise prone to mixing up her weapon-based attacks with martial arts moves, such as grappling, throwing, or attacking with swift yet powerful punches. Due to the nature of her weapon, the two styles mix seamlessly and combine into a powerful, but ultimately reckless fighting style with immense collateral damage. She is also skilled enough to completely outclass Amethyst.
- Piloting: Whilst Jasper herself has never demonstrated this ability, it is implied by Doc in "Back to the Moon" that Jasper can pilot Gem ships, such as a Roaming Eye.
- Digging: In "Beta", she was able to have a skill into digging holes in the previous exit holes of other gems into making them into cages for corrupted gems.
Natural Abilities
- Immense Strength: Jasper is extremely strong. Her strength is further emphasized in "Alone at Sea" when she climbs up the anchor chain on the side of the ship, making the entire ship shake and creating a loud thumping sound. This happens once more when Jasper steps onto the ship. She can beat up and poof Corrupted Gems such as Ocean Jasper by herself, even forcing to fuse with her. In "Little Homeschool" and "Fragments", her strength was fully displayed, destroying and launching massive boulders at Steven, as well as breaking his energy barriers.
- Immense Durability: Jasper is also one of the most durable Gems ever shown in the series, being capable of withstanding the point-blank explosion of a Gem Warship's reactor, the following crash and explosion of the entire ship unprotected, being hit with enough force to send her flying over the horizon, and being struck with enough force by Rose Quartz's Sword (which has the power to easily destroy a Gems' physical body) to be driven through a Corrupted Gem (poofing it in the process), all without poofing once. It takes Peridot driving a piece of scrap metal clear through her chest and out her back to finally poof her, and even then that was only after she had been corrupted. After turning back to normal, she is defeated when Steven, glowing pink, locks her up with his shields, then crush her using a massive wall with spikes added on it.
Unique Abilities
- Comet Charge: Jasper can lunge at her foes with alarming speed and power, capable of breaking through layers of floors in the hand ship. While she performs this attack, a fiery aura forms around her.
- Spin Dash: Jasper can rapidly roll in a ball-like shape to attack enemies. While Amethyst was shown to have this ability as well, Jasper's version is far more powerful and destructive.
Weaponry
- Gem Destabilizer: Homeworld Gems, in addition to their summonable weapon, seem to carry a personal defense weapon known as Gem Destabilizers — extremely potent, non-lethal tools used to subdue enemy Gems. Jasper is seen using this weapon on Garnet in "The Return". She attempts to use it again in "Jail Break", but Garnet pried it from her hand and broke it immediately afterward.

I don't need your help! You're the one that needs help. You think you've beaten me, but you've never beaten me on your own. You've always been a fusion! You've always had your friends! Because you're nothing without them! You think everyone needs help! ... But it's only you. No one is as pitiful as you! |

—Jasper, "Little Homeschool" |
Jasper believed that Steven was Rose, the Gem who shattered her former superior Pink Diamond and treated him as such.
In "The Return" Jasper is shock to see Steven have the possession of Rose's Shield, to the point she refer to him as Rose and that he should be bought to Yellow Diamond for her to see until Garnet intervene, which Jasper uses a Gem Destabilizer on her and poofing her after that she grab Steven's shirt and headbutted him unconscious.
In "Chille Tid", Jasper is shown to harbor a vendetta against Steven and tries to attack him upon seeing him. However, Lapis manages to restrain and suppress Jasper.
In "Super Watermelon Island", Jasper's personality through Malachite shows that she bears animosity towards Steven, even referring to him by name instead of Rose, to the point where the Watermelon Steven's resemblance of him angers her and ate it. However, while Steven and Jasper have by no means a friendly relationship and due to Jasper being unconscious, he did call out to her when she was falling into a fissure that was caused by the Cluster.
In "Alone at Sea", Jasper is still unaware that Steven and Rose are not the same, referring to him as "a dulled down version of Rose Quartz". Despite her dislike for him, she does not attempt to harm him until Lapis rejects her pleas to reform Malachite. When Steven continues to defend Lapis, Jasper blames Steven, charging at him in an attempt to shatter him before Lapis intervenes.
in "Gem Hunt" Jasper poofed both corrupted Biggs Jasper and corrupted Ocean Jasper and told Steven "Hey Rose, look what I got" "showing him the two corrupted gem poofed gemstone" before walking into the snowstorm.
In "Crack The Whip" Jasper uses two of the corrupted Quartzes (which Biggs was poofed by Amethyst and bubbled by Steven) to build her own army to defeat Steven and the Crystal Gems and even insulted him by having Amethyst as one of his army, which to the point she poofed Amethyst and is about to shatter her, until Steven and Connie intervene and fuses into Stevonnie to save Amethyst's poofed gemstone, Jasper is shock and disgust that Steven would fuse with a human, her and Stevonnie have a battle, which Stevonnie defeated Jasper by poofing her corrupted army Ocean Jasper, Jasper retreat back into the ocean and telling "Rose" get ready for next time and that Jaspers don't give up until they get what they want.
In "Earthlings", Steven finally tells Jasper that he is not Rose and tells her his name, though she continues to refer to him as Rose. Jasper refuses Steven's help when he tries to heal her corruption because she comes to her own conclusion that Rose takes advantage of weakened or defective Gems like Amethyst. Feeling that by feigning concern for Gems will convince them to follow her, Jasper believes that Rose's compassionate nature (and Steven's by extension) is a facade. Enraged, Jasper screams at Steven that she's been fighting her entire life because of what Rose did to her colony, her planet, and Pink Diamond.
When she was healed in "Change Your Mind", Jasper once again tried to attack Steven, only to see him surrounded by several other Gems and the Diamonds being present, which Yellow give her a angry look, before brushing off with a smile. Amethyst then swimming over to her, greeting her as "Hey, sis" and Jasper meekly sinks into the pool.
In "Little Homeschool", Steven heads into the forest outskirts of Beach City to visit Jasper, the latter having chosen to make her home in solitude after being uncorrupted. While not bearing any hostility toward him, Jasper still bears some animosity toward Steven, making it clear that he is not her Diamond and that he'll have to fight her if he wishes to prove he can lead her as one. Steven, frustrated at Jasper's lack of cooperation, obliges at her request, and the two engage in combat.
During their battle, Jasper pulls no punches as she expresses her disdain for Steven's reliance on his allies and inability to fend for himself alone, viewing him as pitiful. This triggers a newfound ability in Steven, allowing him to defeat Jasper on his own. Impressed with Steven's strength and content with their battle, Jasper initially refuses Steven's request to teach him to fight alone, though she tells him to do as he wishes when he asks if he could return, slowly opening up to him.
In "Fragments", Jasper takes Steven under her wing and trains him to fight in an attempt to control his diamond powers, which are getting out of hand. After just three days of vigorous training, Steven finally gives Jasper the rematch she wanted since his arrival. As they fight, however, Steven overpowers Jasper, accidentally shattering her gemstone in the process. Immediately, Steven realizes what he has done and rushes back home to revive her, succeeding. Arising from his bathtub, Jasper realizes Steven's potential and finally acknowledges him as a Diamond, much to his displeasure.
In "Homeworld Bound", Jasper maintains her loyalty to him as her Diamond and seems very affected when Steven advises her not to follow him and find something better to do with her life.
In "The Future", it seems as though Jasper has taken Steven's advice as she is seen in Little Homeworld instead of wallowing in her cave. She crashes through a wall demanding Steven to take her along with him for protection, however, Steven tells her that he can manage on his own to which she agrees and bids her "Diamond" farewell.
Crystal Gems/Alexandrite
“ |
You don't need me for this. Just blast them with the ship. |
” |
—"The Return" |
Due to the Crystal Gems being traitors who staged a rebellion against their Homeworld and the fact that Jasper fought on the side of the loyalist Gems in the conflict, her view on the Crystal Gems is naturally a negative one. She is eager to settle the score with them; so much so that she expresses disappointment in the fact that the only ones left from Rose's army are the Crystal Gems. She initially considers them unworthy for her to fight personally and simply orders Peridot to blast them with the Gem Warship.
Jasper appears to do whatever she can to get even with the Crystal Gems for everything they have done, such as stopping the Earth's colonization. Some of Jasper's actions to end the Crystal Gems' existence involved imprisoning them in order to take them to Yellow Diamond, forming Malachite to shatter them, and creating her own army of Corrupted Gems to compete with the Gems.
In "Super Watermelon Island", she takes control of Malachite to 'have some fun' and destroy the Crystal Gems, who have fused as Alexandrite. During the fight, she uncharacteristically thanks the Crystal Gems for proving her previous opinion wrong – that fusion is not just some cheap trick. To 'thank' them, she attempts to unfuse Alexandrite by squeezing her with hands created by water and freezing them, as she sees there is room for only 'one abomination'.
In the podcast, it stated that Jasper has been told since she emerged that she was perfect, and that's what she wants to be and considers the Crystal Gems a band of uplifted flawed Gems, this is why Steven wasn't able to recruit in his traditional way, as Jasper didn't want to change sides.
Lapis Lazuli
“ |
I thought I was a brute, but you, you're a monster! |
” |
—Jasper, "Alone at Sea" |
Jasper was put in charge of overseeing Lapis, following her return to Homeworld. After imprisoning her, she forces Lapis into being hers and Peridot's informant as a way to help them find and capture the Crystal Gems. Jasper treats Lapis very roughly and sends her back to her cell after finding out she withheld information from her, despite Lapis saying it is not relevant to the mission. When Jasper attempts to coerce Lapis into fusing with her to defeat the Crystal Gems, Lapis eventually agrees. The two fuse together to form Malachite, with Jasper initially appearing to be the dominant personality. Before Jasper can make use of her new form, Lapis regains control of her hydrokinetic ability to bind and imprison their fusion beneath the ocean. While trapped beneath the ocean, Jasper is tenacious in her efforts to either regain control of Malachite or escape the fusion. They are later unfused in "Super Watermelon Island" after being defeated by Alexandrite.
In "Alone at Sea", Jasper begs Lapis to re-fuse with her, claiming they were better together than apart. She claims that Lapis is a monster, and only she could handle that power. After being rejected, she becomes enraged and attempts to shatter Steven only to be thrown into the ocean by a water hand invoked by Lapis.
Amethyst
“ |
You're a Quartz soldier just like me. But you're not like me... are you? |
” |
—"Crack the Whip" |
Jasper quickly recognized that Amethyst is a Quartz Gem soldier much like herself, only an "overcooked runt", indicating that despite their shared heritage, she sees Amethyst as just another Crystal Gem rebel, and perhaps an inferior version of herself. In "Crack the Whip", she belittles and insults Amethyst over her inferiority, claiming that Rose must have low standards when Amethyst argued that Rose said she was perfect the way she is, which caused Amethyst to attack her in anger only to be defeated and poofed. Jasper then attempts to kill Amethyst by crushing her gemstone, forcing Steven and Connie to fuse into Stevonnie to rescue her, which shows that Jasper is willing to kill Amethyst. She also commented that if Amethyst was not defective, she could have been like Jasper herself. Despite being saved and regenerated, Amethyst is affected negatively by her defeat and the fact that Steven and Connie managed to ward off Jasper without her help, causing her to question her usefulness, having apparently taken Jasper's comments about her to heart. As of "Beta", Amethyst still holds a grudge against Jasper and trains extensively for a rematch against her, much to Steven's concern. In "Earthlings", with some encouragement from Steven, Amethyst finally overcomes her feelings of worthlessness and forms Smoky Quartz with him in an attempt to defeat Jasper once and for all. After Jasper was corrupted following her fusion with the Snow Monster and poofed by Peridot, Amethyst seems to take pity on Jasper and even refers to her as "Sis" (as they are both Quartz gems that were made on Earth) as she bubbled her gem.
When Jasper is healed in "Change Your Mind", Amethyst is the first to greet her as she surfaces from Rose's fountain, mouthing "Hey, sis".
2 years later, it seems Jasper and Amethyst aren't on good terms, in "Little Homeschool" Amethyst told Steven to forget about Jasper and that he should stop trying to fix everyone.
Peridot
“ |
"How can you side with Rose Quartz?! Why? Why protect this useless shell of a planet?" "It's not a shell. There's so much life, living here. That's what I'm doing! I'm living here! I've been learning new things about myself all the time! Like how I can make metal do my bidding! The point being: Earth can set you free." |
” |
—Jasper and Peridot, "Earthlings" |
Jasper and Peridot seem to hold some tension between each other. Most of this seems to stem from the fact that Jasper is put in charge of escorting Peridot, as the Crystal Gems repeatedly hinder Peridot's efforts, forcing Peridot to report to her superior(s) and ask for additional help in the matter. Jasper pays little attention to Peridot's grievances and complaints, possibly as a result of Jasper looking down on Peridot, who is more of an intellectual/technician than a soldier. Peridot states in a message intended for Yellow Diamond that Jasper was her escort, though the Rubies sent by Yellow Diamond later clarified that Jasper was acting leader of the mission to Earth. In "Earthlings", Jasper seemed surprised to find that Peridot has joined the Crystal Gems, and no longer serves Homeworld.
Smoky Quartz
“ |
Is fusion the only trick you Crystal Gems know?! |
” |
—"Earthlings" |
Upon first seeing Smoky Quartz, Jasper commented that fusion was the only tactic the Crystal Gems had. After realizing she could not win against them, she exclaimed that she would not lose against yet another fusion. Ironically, this incited her to fuse with a Corrupted Gem, which ultimately leads to her own corruption.
Garnet
“ |
Oh great, you're both out? And you're fused again? Why? Fusion is just a cheap tactic to make weak Gems stronger. Quit embarrassing yourselves! I've seen what you really are. |
” |
—"Jail Break" |
Jasper and Garnet's relationship is very antagonistic, as Jasper's self-reliant outlook on life means that she looks down on Garnet for being a fusion. When she first meets Garnet in "The Return" she refers to her as a "shameless display," implying she already knew that Garnet was a fusion. Jasper uses a Gem Destabilizer on Garnet causing her to poof. Jasper was defeated in "Jailbreak" at the hands of Garnet during their battle, which pushes her to make the hypocritical decision to fuse with Lapis in an attempt to become stronger. This rash decision led to her confinement at the bottom of the ocean. In "Super Watermelon Island" Jasper as Malachite said she no longer considers fusion as a cheap trick, but now sees it as a viable combat tactic. Watermelon Steven and the rest of the Watermelon Stevens help to bring down Malachite, which gives Alexandrite the advantage to defeat Malachite, poofing her back into Jasper and Lapis, who are both caught in mid-air. A massive earthquake from The Cluster then causes a fissure, and while the Crystal Gems manage to save Lapis, they fail to stop Jasper from falling into it.
Rose Quartz
“ |
Help...? Help?! I've been fighting from the second I broke free of the Earth's crust, because of what YOU did to my colony! Because of what YOU did to my PLANET! Because of what YOU did to my DIAMOND! |
” |
—Jasper, "Earthlings" |
Jasper holds a strong animosity towards Rose, due to her being the one who shattered Pink Diamond. She accepted the mission to escort Peridot on Earth because she was looking forward to beating Rose "into the ground" in order to avenge her Diamond. Despite this, Jasper expresses a great deal of respect towards Rose for her role as the military commander of the war, although she does harbor disgust towards Rose's love for the Earth and will to fight for the planet. In "Crack the Whip", Jasper insulted Rose for having a defective Quartz like Amethyst and stated she must have low standards when Amethyst counters by saying that Rose thought that Amethyst was perfect the way she is. Her last words before becoming corrupted also reveal that she came back to Earth to defeat Rose because of what she did to Pink Diamond.
In "Little Homeschool", it is confirmed that she is now aware of Rose's true identity as Pink Diamond and accepts that Steven is not her. It's still unknown how Jasper views Rose after this revelation but it can be assumed she still values her as Jasper belittles Steven, saying that despite having Pink Diamond's gem, he is not Pink Diamond and can't command Jasper..
Yellow Diamond
As a Homeworld soldier, Jasper answers to Yellow Diamond but is not too loyal to her. While she strongly values and believes in the Diamond Authority, she is not as loyal as she could be. She easily disregards her primary mission of checking on the cluster and goes off doing her own thing, implying that while she answers to Yellow Diamond, she does not consider her as her true leader, which could be a reason as to why she still refers to Pink Diamond as her Diamond. Upon mistaking Steven for Rose Quartz, Jasper immediately ordered Steven to be captured and be brought back to Yellow Diamond. Their personal relationship is unknown, although in "Message Received" Yellow Diamond seemed less concerned about her than the ship she was on and in "Hit the Diamond", Yellow Diamond sent a team of Rubies to find and retrieve Jasper.
Upon being cured of Corruption, Jasper attempts to attack Steven under the belief that he is Rose Quartz, but is stopped when Yellow gives her an angry look, before brushing it off with a smile.
Pink Diamond
Not much is known about the relationship between Jasper and Pink Diamond, though from Jasper's ideology shows that she had a great deal of respect for her as she served under her. This respect continued as Jasper is still angered toward Rose Quartz for what she did to her former leader, never realizing the two were one in the same. Jasper continues to refer to Pink Diamond as her Diamond even after she was shattered, showing how much adoration she had for her. In the podcast, the reason Jasper bullies others is because of her pent-up feelings, and she expresses her heartbreak over Pink Diamond's shattering through acting aggressively toward others.
In "Little Homeschool", it is revealed that she is aware Steven is not Pink Diamond despite bearing her gemstone, though it is unknown if Jasper's perception of Pink was altered by the revelation that she was Rose and had faked her shattering. Regardless, she still refers to her as her Diamond.
Stevonnie
“ |
You Crystal Gems would even fuse with a human!? |
” |
—"Crack the Whip" |
In "Crack the Whip", Jasper is shown to be visibly disgusted when Steven fuses with the human Connie to rescue Amethyst, who Jasper had just defeated. As with Steven, Jasper refers to Stevonnie as Rose (likely due to the fact that they use Rose's weapons and possess her gemstone). When Stevonnie manages to put up a decent fight, Jasper expresses frustration at once again having difficulty fighting a fusion and retreats back into the ocean, swearing revenge.
"Eyeball"
It is not known if Jasper has met "Eyeball", but it is shown in "Back to the Moon" that "Eyeball" looks up to Jasper as she is flattered when Amethyst (disguised as Jasper) tells her to write her report for her on Homeworld.

Trivia
- According to Rebecca Sugar in Steven Universe: Art and Origins, Jasper has a fantastic reputation and is regarded as one of the best Quartzes produced on Earth.
- She is described by her as a "highly decorated Gem from humble origins" in Homeworld.
- Jasper had a yellow diamond on her uniform, just like Peridot.
- It is later revealed that she actively served one of The Great Diamond Authority's members, Yellow Diamond, prior to being corrupted.
- She formerly served Pink Diamond.
- Jasper can be considered an opposing counterpart to Rose Quartz.
- Rose and Jasper both have the same hair length, but while Rose's hair is soft and curly, Jasper's hair is wild and unkempt.
- Rose wears a dress while Jasper wears a bodysuit.
- They both are of similar height and stature, with Jasper being more muscular than Rose, indicative of both of their respective natures.
- Rose's combat style apparently focuses on defense, while Jasper's focuses on offense.
- Rose is kind and serene; Jasper is savage and ill-tempered.
- Rose fought against the Gem Homeworld while Jasper fought on its behalf.
- This could be a hint to actual mineralogy as jasper and quartz have the same chemical composition (silicon dioxide, colored by iron), but different internal structure.
- Sonic the Hedgehog's Spin Dash is likely to have been the inspiration for the attack of the same name performed by both Jasper and Amethyst.
- Jasper is consistently shown to be left-handed, save for her first appearance when she pulled out a Gem Destabilizer.
- Amethyst and Jasper have similarities in body and combat style due to both of them being quartzes. These similarities include:
- Jasper and Amethyst both have wild and unkempt hair.
- Both share voluminous lips.
- Jasper can also rapidly roll into a ball-like shape to attack enemies. While Amethyst was shown to have this ability as well, Jasper's version is more powerful.
- This could be a hint to actual mineralogy, as Jasper is non-crystalline quartz, while Amethyst is crystalline quartz.
- According to Peridot in "Too Far", Amethyst should be around Jasper's height, but she was made defective. This was also said during "Crack the Whip", where Jasper demeans Amethyst for being small.
- Raven Molisee stated that the reason for Jasper wearing a cape in "The Return" was to look "intimidatingly fabulous".[3]
- The bands or stripes on Jasper's body are an aesthetic meant to represent the appearance of her gemstone in real life and to give her a camouflage or army commando look that fits her character.[4]
- The bands hold a strong resemblance to the tattoos of Kratos, the brutish protagonist of the God of War franchise.
- In "Beta", Peridot reveals that Jasper was made in the Beta Kindergarten as part of a desperate attempt to produce additional soldiers to fight against the Rebellion.
- Her helmet resembles a bōsōzoku hairstyle.
- According to the Rubies in "Hit the Diamond", Jasper was the leader of Peridot's mission to Earth.
- In "Beta", Peridot describes Jasper as the perfect/ultimate Quartz, stating that she has "never seen an exit hole this perfect."
- She is the first Gem to be seen corrupted on-screen, as well as the first Gem to fuse with a Corrupted Gem.
- She is the first Gem to confirm Pink Diamond existed at some point. She had previously believed Rose to have also served under Pink and was responsible for what happened to her.
- It is implied that Jasper knows how to pilot a Roaming Eye.
- Prior to "Earthlings", Jasper was the longest recurring Gem antagonist who had not been caught and poofed by the Crystal Gems, the second being Peridot, though the latter reformed.
- Ironically, Peridot was the one who poofed her in the end.
- Jasper's corrupted form is reminiscent of orbicular jasper.
- After being asked by a fan, Kimberly Brooks had stated that Jasper's voice was inspired by a Sears employee she had spoken to while looking for an appliance they no longer sold.[5]
- For a currently unknown reason, compared to the other corrupted Jaspers seen in "Gem Hunt" and "Earthlings", Jasper is the first Jasper-type Gem whose gemstone is not either a faceted hexagon or a circular cabochon, but rather a three-faceted diamond-esque shape. Zebra Jasper is the second, bearing a similar rhomboidal gem, although smooth.
- Kimberly Brooks mentioned at the 2018 L.A. Comic-Con that she is waiting for the moment when Jasper will have a redemption arc/episode, and she hopes that Jasper will sing a song in it.[6]
- She is the first Gem to be shown shattered on screen.

Jasper's gemstone is located where her nose otherwise would be. It is triangular and faceted onto a low point. It has a diamond-esque shape. |

'Q: 'What was the whole point of Jasper wearing a cape in "The Return?"'
A: To look intimidatingly fabulous. Need there be another reason?' - ↑ https://gyazo.com/46478df71d55cb01409c85f60bfad91d
'Q: 'Hi, first off I want to thank you and your fellow team members for creating one of, if not, the greatest cartoon(s) ever made. I recently came up with a theory about Jasper's bands/stripes. I know real life Jasper can be banded, but so can some other real life counter parts of the other in show Gems. So my question is: Are her bands or stripes (whatever they're technically called), more than they appear to be? Basically do they represent something... more or are they just for aesthetics.'
A: They're just for aesthetics. They match what jasper actually looks like, and they kinda give her a camouflage/commando kinda vibe which fits her character.' - ↑ Tumblr
