Description[]
- "Some fancy doctor said we can switch on psychopathy."
- ―Mandalorian Goran Beviin on the words of a psychologist
Psychologists specialized in the psychological makeup of various sentient species in the galaxy.[2] They also specialized in a plethora of disorders such as multiple personality disorder[4] and psychopathy.[3] Some surgical droids were programmed to act as psychologists.[5]
History[]
- "In fact, [Cassio Tagge] is so rational that Alliance psychologists are in a fevered debate over what made him join in with the Empire in the first place."
- ―The notes of Rebel historian Voren Na'al
During the Old Republic era, Old Republic psychologists theorized that the Elomin species' beliefs of other species as inferior would make them ineffectual while traveling in deep space.[2] While the Cold War between the Sith Empire and the Old Republic raged on, psychologists made up a margin of the Republic's Belsavis prison personnel on the Outer Rim Territories planet Belsavis.[7]
During the Galactic Civil War, the Alliance to Restore the Republic had a plethora of psychologists at hand.[1] Due to the destruction of his homeworld Bront and the death of his family, Rebel operative Graf Yonna suffered a mental break and created an alternate personality based on hero and adventurer Parsol d'Ahndole. Rebel psychologists tried to reconstruct his original personality.[4] The Interrogation department of Alliance Intelligence employed psychologists who used psychic interrogation techniques to persuade captured Imperials to talk.[1] Alliance psychologists were perplexed as to why General Cassio Tagge of the Empire had decided to serve Emperor Palpatine, given he was the most rational and stable amongst the generals stationed aboard the Death Star battle station.[6]
A psychologist once said that the Mandalorian warriors had the ability to "switch off" psychopathy. In 41 ABY,[8] Mandalorian Goran Beviin told Jedi Knight Jaina Solo about this saying.[3]
Behind the scenes[]
Psychologists were first mentioned in The Star Wars Sourcebook, written by Bill Slavicsek and Curtis Smith in 1987 as the first rulebook in West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[5] Psychologists first appeared in the form of the "Mon Calamari Mediator" player character template in the Death in the Undercity adventure for West End Games' Star Wars Roleplaying Game, written by Michael Nystul and published in 1990.[9]
