"Porcellus is the best cook on Tatooine."
"Oh, you are much too kind, sir."
"He was brought here by Jabba the Hutt, a local... businessman of great repute. Most of the time Porcellus cooks for Jabba and his court, but when he is free, he creates his delights here."
Feltipern Trevagg and Porcellus — 20?cb=20250116042720 ▶️ (file info)[1]

Porcellus was a balding male Human chef who worked for Jabba Desilijic Tiure during the Galactic Civil War. He was assisted by Phlegmin, the kitchen boy. Before working for the Hutt, he worked for Yndis Mylore.

Biography[]

"Oh, I must return to the kitchens before your praise overcooks my ego. Please, do come again."
―Porcellus — 20?cb=20250116042720 ▶️ (file info)[1]

Porcellus was a chef of considerable skill, having won both the Golden Spoon and Tselgormet Prize numerous times.[2] Early in his career, he worked for Yndis Mylore, the governor of Bryexx.

Eventually, he ended up working for the mighty Jabba the Hutt. He lived in constant fear, knowing that if he made one bad meal, Jabba would feed him to his rancor.[2] While he was Jabba's chef he became friends with the Askajian dancer Yarna d'al' Gargan and Malakili, the Rancor keeper.

Porcellus found it necessary to hide the choicest morsels and meals behind an electrified fence in his kitchen to keep the Palace's Gamorreans and Phlegmin, the kitchen boy, from stealing too many "samples". This, incidentally, kept him alive, as he did not wish to see his master going hungry.[2]

Porcellus sometimes used to cook large wild creatures for Jabba, including dune lizards, rock beetles (to prepare beetle broth), squills (to prepare squill liver salad), dragonets or zucca boars.[3] In 1 ABY,[4] Porcellus hired a spacer to steal several bottles of Corellian Merlot from Valarian pirates, who stole the shipment soon before.[3]

In 4 ABY when several bodies were turning up with no explanation as to how or why they had been murdered, he found Ak-Buz's murdered corpse in his kitchen, and hid the body. He also drove Jubnuk out of the kitchen's garbage area, believing the guard had intended to steal food. In actuality, Jubnuk had been rummaging through the trash to find Jabba's Tusken battle talisman, which had been misplaced.

Porcellus later met Leia Organa after she was captured by Jabba and forced to serve as the Hutt's personal slave during her botched rescue of the Corellian smuggler Han Solo. Porcellus fell in love with the Alderaanian princess but realized that she herself was in love with Solo. Due to his compassionate nature, he decided to help Solo, and fed him select meals to hasten his recovery from hibernation sickness, helping to keep him alive, despite feeling great sorrow that the smuggler held the Princess' affections instead of him. For this he was thanked by Leia. Porcellus's life was soon in jeopardy, however, when Jabba accused him of putting a fierfek, or hex, on the food, noting that others such as Oola and Jubnuk, who consumed his cooking, died shortly thereafter. He was sentenced to death. However, Jabba was killed before the sentence could be carried out and Porcellus was freed by Malakili. They later founded a restaurant together called the Crystal Moon in Mos Eisley.

Porcellus SWG

The original Porcellus in Star Wars Galaxies.

Porcellus appeared as a non-player character in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[5] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[6] Porcellus was present in the original release of the game, being part of the so-called Jabba's Theme Park. Originally, Porcellus was bald and wore dark green clothes.[5] With the release of the "Publish 25," a.k.a. the "New Game Enhancements," on November 15, 2005,[7] the Jabba's Theme Park was extensively revamped and the quests given by Porcellus were completely modified. In addition, his appearance was changed to a more chef-like one, with black hair, a white apron and a chef's hat.[3]

The name "Porcellus" is Latin for "piglet" or "suckling pig".[8]

  4. The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
