"However, under Imperial control—even as early as 18 BBY—Champala became the home of dual, competing, industries. The oceans were significantly overfished by the Imperial Champalan Marine Resource Collective while the landmasses were extensively drilled by the Champalan Imperial Mineral Extraction Initiative."
―Beaumont Kin, The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire[1]

The Imperial Champalan Marine Resource Collective was a fishing company associated with the Galactic Empire that became one of the two main competing industries on the planet Champala. The collective overfished and poisoned the world's oceans while its rival, the Champalan Imperial Mineral Extraction Initiative, did similar to Champala's land. Both companies bribed Chagrian Grand Vizier Mas Amedda to ignore the destruction they caused.

Description[]

"Together both companies poisoned the land and the sea of Champala while also squabbling over which had priority for the few spaceports, which became congested and polluted."
―Beaumont Kin, The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire[1]

The Imperial Champalan Marine Resource Collective was a fishing company associated with the Galactic Empire.[1]

History[]

"Why exactly Mas Amedda allowed for his own planet and people to be the victims of such corporate destruction might seem unclear, but he later admitted under New Republic interrogation that he had accepted ongoing bribes from both companies as well as significant percentages of their trading profits."

The collective overfished and poisoned the waters of Champala, the Chagrian homeworld.

During the Imperial Era, the Imperial Champalan Marine Resource Collective became one of two competing industries on Champala—the resort world[1] home of the Chagrian species[2]—as early as 18 BBY. The collective significantly overfished the world's oceans and poisoned them while its competition, the Champalan Imperial Mineral Extraction Initiative, drilled and poisoned the landmasses. Both companies fought for priority over Champala's small number of spaceports, causing the ports to become congested and suffer from pollution.[1]

The collective and the initiative both also paid a significant percentage of their trading profits, as well as ongoing bribes, to Grand Vizier Mas Amedda, a powerful Chagrian Imperial originally from Champala, in order to ensure he ignored the corporate destruction they were causing. After the collapse of the Empire, Amedda surrendered to the New Republic[1] in 5 ABY,[3] revealing the financial ties he had to the two competing industries on Champala during interrogation by the Republic. This information was recorded in a note titled Mas Amedda, Interrogation Note #254, which was stored in the New Republic Archives and later cited by the historian Beaumont Kin when discussing the companies in[1] his[4] book The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire[1] in 35 ABY.[5]

Behind the scenes[]

The Imperial Champalan Marine Resource Collective was mentioned in the 2024 reference book Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire, which was written by Dr. Chris Kempshall.[1]
