- "Welcome to Ferrix terminal. Please make sure to check in your baggage before departing."
- ―An announcement aboard a shuttle ferry
The HFY-3920 shuttle ferry, also known simply as a shuttle ferry, was a red-and-beige two-engine, single pilot repulsorcraft shuttle manufactured by Ferrix Field Yards that operated on the planet Ferrix by 5 BBY. The Ferrix Entry Ferry Service used shuttle ferries for transporting passengers to and from the town center. Rebel network coordinator Luthen Rael used a shuttle ferry in 5 BBY, as did one of his network's spies Vel Sartha and ex-Pre-Mor Enforcement officers Syril Karn and Linus Mosk several weeks later.
Characteristics[]
The HFY-3920[1] shuttle ferry[4] was a type of two-engine repulsorcraft shuttle[2] manufactured by Ferrix Field Yards.[1] The exterior of the starship was painted in red and beige, with the text "FERRIX ENTRY FERRY SERVICE" written on its side[2] in Bazeese script;[5] individual ferries also had their engine number written next to the company name with capital letters. The ferries' two engine units were located in the rear.[2]

The pilot of a shuttle ferry was seated in an elevated cockpit.
A shuttle ferry had a spacious interior including standing space and seating for at least thirty-one passengers arranged in sets of four along with a rear gallery. It also included overhead space for their luggage.[3] It was driven by a single ferry operator[1] who was seated in an elevated glass cockpit in the front of the ship.[3] Entry and exit from the vehicle was facilitated by use of a staircase droid, which was deployed in ferry stations, and a mirror opposite to the door.[2] A screen above the door displayed information about the ship's destination, and overhead lights as well as wide windows offered a clear view of the surrounding locales.[3]
Role[]
Shuttle ferries were used as civilian intercity passenger transports.[3]
History[]

HFY-3920 shuttle ferries were operated on the planet Ferrix by the Ferrix Entry Ferry Service, which used them for years to serve both commuting workers and visiting off-worlders. As Ferrix City's footprint expanded, the ferry service became increasingly necessary. Routes began in remote valleys, where passengers boarded the ferries from their personal starships, and ended in Ferrix City's Ferrix Terminal.[1]
By 5 BBY,[6] Ferrix Entry Ferry Service operated at least three different shuttle ferries, including Engine 22, to ferry passengers from shuttle stations scattered around the planet to the Ferrix Terminal[3] as well as to the planet's spaceport.[7] Upon landing on Ferrix to meet with his local contact's seller, Cassian Andor,[2] in 5 BBY,[6] Luthen Rael, the coordinator of a rebel network, used Engine 22 to carry him from a ferry station close to the remote valley where he had landed his Fondor Haulcraft, to the Ferrixian town.[3]
During transit, he struck up a conversation with a fellow passenger, Willi, who complained about shuttle ferry rates and warned him about pickpockets.[3] One month later, while departing for[7] the Core Worlds planet[8] Coruscant to meet with her cousin Mon Mothma,[9] Rael's network's spy Vel Sartha used a shuttle ferry to leave the town.[7] Several days later, ex–Pre-Mor Enforcement officers Linus Mosk and Syril Karn, posing as locals, took a ferry to the Ferrixian town to investigate Andor's possible presence at his mother's upcoming funeral.[10]
Behind the scenes[]
The shuttle ferry first appeared in "That Would Be Me," the second episode of the first season of the Disney+ live-action television series Andor,[3] released on September 21, 2022.[11] It was identified as a "shuttle ferry" in the audio description of the next episode, "Reckoning,"[4] released the same day.[11] The 2024 reference book Star Wars Encyclopedia: The Comprehensive Guide to the Star Wars Galaxy further identified the ferry's model as HFY-3920.[1]
