A brigade was a type of military formation that was used by the Galactic Republic[1] and the Galactic Empire.[2] In the Grand Army of the Republic, an example of a brigade was the 3rd Brigade of the 7th Legion. The 3rd Brigade's Hawkbat Battalion participated in many battles during the Clone Wars.[1] Early during the Clone Wars, the 501st Legion had at least three brigades, of which Carnivore Battalion and Execute Battalion were a part of. During the Great Jedi Purge, Jedi Gate Master Jurokk of the Jedi Temple estimated the force from the 501st Legion that stormed the Temple as numbering several brigades in strength.[3]
After the Declaration of a New Order and the Republic transforming into the Galactic Empire, a brigade of the 501st Legion was deployed to New Plympto to defeat the local resistance.[2] The brigade was composed of a regiment under the leadership of Commander Vill.[4]
