Sweet, sweet brisket

Hours-long waits are typical with Matt Horn brings his Texas-style barbecue pop-up Horn BBQ to venues in Oakland and San Francisco — in part because those pop-ups were never on a regular schedule. Soon, brisket fans will be able to score Horn’s gorgeous smoked meats and classic sides on a consistent basis: Horn BBQ has scored a spot at Off the Grid Fort Mason every other Friday starting March 8.

Asian fusion out, Thai in

Over in Oakland, six-year-old Rockridge Asian fusion restaurant Osmanthus is closing after service today. The owners of Berkeley’s Imm Thai Street Food will take over the space and turn it into Yimm, a simple but contemporary Thai restaurant focused on homey, Bangkok-style food. It’s scheduled to open in mid-March.

SF can’t get enough Blue Bottle

Blue Bottle opened its 10th San Francisco cafe at 168 2nd Street in the Financial District earlier this month, and now, Hoodline reports that two more are on the way. One is coming to Jackson Square at 909 Montgomery Street and the other will take over the former Bread & Cocoa space in FiDi at 199 Sutter Street.

All the chocolate ice cream

Portland-based ice cream shop Salt & Straw is kicking off a chocolatier series starting tomorrow, February 1. There will be five new flavors, featuring Northern Californian chocolate companies: Dandelion Chocolate’s cacao fruit sorbet, Dick Taylor’s black figs and Madagascar chocolate, Feve’s chocolate cherry vinegar cordial, TCHO’s cinnamon-spiced milk chocolate crunch, and perhaps more excitingly, NeoCocoa’s black sesame brittle and brown sugar. Find them at Salt & Straw location in Hayes Valley, Pacific Heights, Burlingame, and Palo Alto.

Treasure Island businesses speak up

There’s a proposed toll for driving on and off of Treasure Island — costing as much as $13 per day — which some are saying will greatly negatively impact people who live and work on the island. Treasure Island restaurant Aracely Cafe is asking folks to sign a petition against the proposal — and is offering any item on the dinner menu for just $1 through February (except for Valentine’s Day) with a Fastrak receipt and proof that you signed the petition.
