Beignets aren’t the only kind of fried dough that sells in New Orleans: doughnuts, both fancy and plain, are a popular treat. While a doughnut destination like District Donuts gets creative with 100-plus flavors, many bakeries in the area have been frying up the standards without fuss and bother for years now. Behold the map for doughnuts however you like them: fancy, simple, vegan, or old-fashioned.

Fried, glazed, and filled
Bakers Dozen
Baker's Dozen in Jefferson has set itself apart with creatively themed doughnuts — munch on your favorite super hero for $1.50 — as well as delicious combinations like its sweet and salty caramel pretzel doughnut (pictured). All up, a nice neighborhood spot with lots of regulars.
Dorignac's Food Center
New Orleans is lucky to have a plethora of family-owned grocery stores, and Dorignac’s is the cream of the crop — great liquor prices, helpful staff, and amazing doughnuts. Afficiandos rave about the plain glaze and chocolate-covered sprinkle, but the chocolate glaze is tough to beat.
Tastee Restaurant (Multiple Locations)
A New Orleans childhood favorite from back in the day, Tastee is well known for king cakes, buttermilk drops, and doughnuts, not necessarily in that order, but some folks swear by the apple fritters. There are two locations to satisfy.
Blue Dot Donuts
This bright blue building on Canal Street sells out more days than not, thanks in no small part to its signature maple bacon long john doughnut. All doughnuts are still made by hand at Blue Dot Donuts, a point of pride for this busy shop. Get there early, and on the weekends, expect a line.
City Donuts & Café
This Claiborne Avenue shop is super-friendly, with fresh doughnuts made daily — and day-olds offered at a discount. It is open 24/7 and serves breakfast, sandwiches, and specialties like a fried seafood platter. Try the eclairs, but the honey buns are great, too.
District Donuts Sliders Brew (Multiple Locations)
District provides an ever-changing selection of innovative, creative, and most importantly, delicious doughnuts to its adoring public. They look as great as they taste, and that's saying something. The locally owned biz now has four locations in the New Orleans area and an all-day cafe downtown, District All Day Delicious.
HiVolt Coffee
Coffee is the natural BFF of the doughnut, so it's no surprise that HiVolt delivers on doughnuts. What is a surprise, though, is that the doughnuts are vegan, and sometimes gluten-free, made by Homegrown Nola. They’re delicious.
The Buttermilk Drop
The eponymous buttermilk drop is a Southern staple and lacks the doughnut's usual hole in the middle. It's dense and delish. The Buttermilk Drop in the Seventh Ward makes a great one, of course, and also takes it a step further in creating the red velvet buttermilk drop. Customers also love the griddled glazed doughnuts, and what’s not to like about that?
Daddy's Donuts
This family-run Gentilly fave fries up some mean dough: Bacon-maple frosted bars are a belly-busting case in point. Set back in a small shopping center, Daddy’s isn’t fancy but the sweets are divine. If you’re an apple fritter lover, get there early, since they always sell out.
Jamboree Jams
Not a doughnut shop, but rather, this charming St. Claude Avenue spot wears several hats — jam shop, wine bar, and weekend brunch spot. Come most Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Jamboree Jams sells doughnuts, from old fashioned strawberry glazed to crullers to sugared brioche filled with passionfruit cream, chocolate cream, or Boston cream. They are some of the best (and prettiest) you’ll ever eat, just be sure to call or check the Instagram page to make sure they’re selling that day.
Terrytown Cafe and Donuts
This neighborhood bakery wins over West Bankers with its glazed doughnut, apple fritter, and 24/7 hours on weekends. Its appeal extends beyond Terrytown, however — the Times-Picayune has awarded it as having the best doughnuts in all of New Orleans, and for the best value.
Southshore Donuts & Restaurant
This longtime doughnut hub in New Orleans East is a childhood memory for many, a warm gathering place that satisfies all breakfast, lunch, and doughnut needs, 24/7. A dozen hot doughnuts for under $12 can’t be beat, with a classic glazed that steals the show. Non-doughtnut favorites include the cinnamon roll and apple fritters.
Gerald's Donuts
With two locations in St. Bernard Parish — Arabi and in Chalmette — there's no excuse to not to stop by for a doughnut when out in da’ Parish. Do it any time: Gerald’s is open 24 hours and has a drive-thru window. (The burgers are great, too.)
