NHL 96 is a sports game (focused on ice hockey) for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It was released in North America and Europe. A Game Boy version was also released.
Plot[]
The game is based on the 1995–1996 NHL ice hockey season.
Gameplay[]
The game had three game modes: Exhibition, Season, and Playoffs. The length of the season could be adjusted between 48 games or 82 games. Three new animations were added to the ending of a fight.
As in the real-world sport of ice hockey, the object is to score more goals than the opposing team to win the game.
Teams[]
Since the game is licensed by the National Hockey League and it's Player's Association, all real-world NHL teams and players from that year are included in the game with the exception of the Colorado Avalanche. That franchise was still listed in the game as the Quebec Nordiques. (The Nordiques relocated to Colorado during the summer of 1995.)

Box Art[]
The box art for the game has a still shot of coach and former player Scott Stevens from the New Jersey Devils and former player Steve Yzerman of the Detroit Red Wings because both the Devils and the Red Wings faced each other in the previous season's Stanley Cup Final.
