Monster Hunter Rise is a game in the Monster Hunter series developed and published by Capcom. The game was released in March 2021. Aside from his new gameplay features, the game is distinct from other Monster Hunter games by its traditional Japan inspired setting.
Gameplay[]
The game plays as a mix of Monster Hunter Generations and World. The two main new mechanics are the Palamutes and the Wirebug. The Palamute is a rideable companion that allows the player to travel quickly across the map including up cliffs. In combat, it has its own style rather the weapons like the Palico. In multiplayer hunts, the player will have to choose if they want to use a Palico or a Palamute. The wirebug allows the player scale cliffs or move quickly for a moment. In combat, it can be used as a dodge move or as a part of a special attack in a combo. However, the wirebugs are limited in use.
There is a new game type called Rampages where hunters have to defend the village from the onslaught on monsters.
Development[]
Monster Hunter Rise is considered to be the series' next main game following Monster Hunter World, despite not being numbered in a similar fashion to the previous titles. It was stated that Monster Hunter Rise runs on the RE engine originally developed by Capcom for Resident Evil 7. Monster Hunter Rise will be released alongside three Amiibo figurines of the Palico, Palamute, and the game's signature monster, the Magnamalo.
The game was officially revealed on September 17, 2020 during a Nintendo Direct mini focused on third party developers. It was later focused on in a Monster Hunter Direct that immediatly followed the Nintendo Direct mini. It was announced with another Monster Hunter game, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin.
Updates[]
The game recieved it's first content update on April 28th 2021. The update added new monsters and gear. The monsters featured in the update were Chameleos, Kushala Daora, Teostra, Apex Diablos, Apex Rathalos, and Bazelgeuse. The update also introduce ways of fighting other apex monsters in regular missions.
On June 30, 2022, the DLC Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak was released.
Sales[]
Capcom reported that they shipped 4 million copies worldwide in three days after release. The game sold over 5 million copies by April 6th 2021. The game was stated to have passed the 6 million threshold by Capcom on April 28th 2021. As of December 2021, the game sold 7.7 million copies.

- At 7.7 million copies sold, Monster Hunter Rise is the best-selling third-party game on Nintendo Switch, and the best-selling game with a "T" rating by the ESRB.
