Ice Dragon is a recurring boss in the Kirby series, first appearing in Kirby's Dream Land 2. It is a bipedal and wingless, turquoise colored dragon, that lives on the frozen island of Iceberg, in the Rainbow Islands. Unlike conventional dragons that breathe fire, Ice Dragon instead breathes extremely cold air that freezes foes on contact. According to Kirby: Planet Robobot, dragons like Ice Dragon were once common on Planet Pop Star in the distant past but now only survive in isolated caves and islands.
It also appears in Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, later making cameos in Kirby's Dream Land 3, Kirby 64, Kirby: Planet Robobot and Kirby Star Allies. In the anime, Kirby of the Stars, he appears as a Demon Beast.
Appearance[]
The Ice Dragon is a rotund dragon that can breathe ice; he is coloured in turquoise with a paler blue belly, and also has a set of four blue spikes along his backside. He is seemingly an ancient life form that has survived through a number of ages.
Kirby series[]
Kirby's Dream Land 2[]
Ice Dragon's debut. It is the boss of the game's fourth island/world, Iceberg where it is in encountered in a frozen cave. Like most of the game's bosses, Ice Dragon is most likely possessed by Dark Matter and freed from his control upon defeat. Ice Dragon's attacks involve charging in Kirby's direction, using its tail like a rotor to slide across the ice, leaping and causing icicles to fall from the ceiling, and breathing ice on the pink puff. Kirby can use his vacuum breath to suck the icicles up and send them back as ammo against the dragon to damage him. Defeating the boss unlocks the Red Canyon.
After Ice Dragon is defeated and freed from Dark Matter's control, Kirby can enter his boss room again to play a bonus-game where Ice Dragon shakes the ground, sending icicles and stars falling from the ceiling. Kirby has to catch the stars and avoid the icicles for a chance at an extra life.
Kirby's Dream Land 3 & Kirby 64[]
Although Ice Dragon does not physically appear in either Kirby's Dream Land 3 or Kirby 64 it does make a cameo appearance as one of the human artist Ado/Adeleine's paint creations during her boss fights. In Kirby's Dream Land 3 it is fought at the end of Cloudy Park and in Kirby 64 it is fought at the end of the second level, Pop Star forest. This paint Ice Dragon retains his ability to breathe ice and charge but cannot stomp to summon icicles as his fight no longer takes place in a frozen cavern. In that attack's place is a new move which has the boss spit out an ice block and send it flying. Defeating the dragon causes him to disintegrate, and Ado will create Sweet Stuff and Adeleine will charge headlong for her final phase but she can be taken out in one hit.
Kirby: Planet Robobot[]
While the Holo-Defense API is fought, it may create a hologram of the Ice Dragon after the hologram Sphere Doomers are defeated. This hologram retains the attacks his base character performed, and can also throw a cutter blade. In the extra game, the dragon's spikes become arrowheaded, and his belly now has a pattern, and his moves are more aggressive.

Kirby: Right Back at Ya![]
Ice Dragon appears in the Kirby anime, Kirby: Right Back at Ya! It is first seen in the pilot as one of the Demon Beasts that invade Dream Land. His design is not changed much. Kirby defeats him with his vacuum breath and copies the Ice ability, freezing a Dark Matter orb.
In the show proper, Ice Dragon appears as the monster of the week of episode 20, Dedede's Snow Job. Here, it is a Demon Beast, created by Nightmare Enterprises and sold to King Dedede, who wanted something to cool him off on a hot summer's day. When, Dedede first orders it, Ice Dragon is sent to him as a baby with its game design, however it quickly grows over the course of a single night into a Godzilla-esque adult form and escapes from Castle Dedede, covering the normally sub-tropical Dream Land in a deep winter. It also creates the snowman Chilly, with the intention of sending him to kill Kirby; however, Kirby befriends Chilly after rescuing him from drowning and the two of them work together to defeat Ice Dragon.
During Kirby's fight with Ice Dragon, he becomes, Ice Kirby by inhaling one of the snowflakes that Ice Dragon spits at him, however, as Ice Dragon lives in cold weather, it is immune to Kirby's frigid breath. Meta Knight suggest that Kirby try freezing Ice Dragon from the inside and along with Chilly, piloting Dedede's snow mobile, the three of them work together to get Kirby into Ice Dragon's mouth eventually freezing it from the inside out.
