Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is a CG anime film, and a direct follow-up to the Final Fantasy VII game.
The film was first released theatrically in Japan in 2005, and later direct-to-video in 2006 internationally. In the United States, the film received a "PG-13" rating.
An extended "Complete" version was released on Blu-ray in 2009.
Plot[]
Two years have passed since the final battle with Sephiroth. Though Midgar, city of mako, city of prosperity, has been reduced to ruins, its people slowly but steadily walk the road to reconstruction. However, a mysterious illness called Geostigma torments them. With no cure in sight, it brings death to the afflicted, one after another, robbing the people of their fledgling hope.

Legacy[]
When Cloud Strife debuted as a downloadable character in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U in December 2015, 4 of his alternate costumes originated from Advent Children, and even has their own pose.
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, in addition to the costumes' return, 3 music tracks from the film would appear as part of "Challenger Pack 8" in the game's Fighters Pass Vol. 2 DLC, with Sephiroth and the Northern Cave stage. The ending verse of the Advent: One-Winged Angel track was also implemented as the fighter's victory theme. As part of the update, including Sephiroth, the design of Cloud's Advent Children costume Final Smash was changed to Omnislash Ver. 5 of the film.
Trivia[]
- This is the first time a film, excluding Pokémon (if any), was directly represented in the Super Smash Bros. series, starting with 3DS/Wii U.
- Grace Rolek, the English voice of Marlene Wallace, also voiced Connie Maheswaran in Steven Universe.
- Both of Mewtwo's voice actors in Super Smash Bros. were involved in the movie: Masachika Ichimura provided the voice of Red XIII/Nanaki, while Keiji Fujiwara provided the voice of Reno. Ichimura voiced Mewtwo in Super Smash Bros. Melee (reprised from Pokémon the First Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back), while Fujiwara voiced the character in later games.
- Scenes from the film would later be included in the Final Fantasy VII: Remake game.
