In her first few appearances Amy was a damsel in distress and played only a minor role in the games. However, starting with Sonic Adventure, she has undergone character development and begun training to become a more capable adventurer in her own right. Thanks to a strict boxercise regimen, she is able swing her Piko Piko hammer with tremendous force and she is now nearly capable of matching Sonic in speed. Amy lives in an apartment in Station Square and her best friend is Cream the Rabbit, who often acts as the voice of reason during Amy's many escapades. Her keenness on winning Sonic's affection often gets on his nerves, although Sonic does care for her more than he lets on. The player can engage in a romantic subplot between Amy Rose and Sonic depending on the player's choices as it states in the game Sonic Chronicles for the Nintendo DS. Amy appears in many Sonic spin-off games, including Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Gamesand Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing.
