MLA Convention Land Acknowledgment
We acknowledge that the territory on which we gather for the 2025 convention, the city now known as New Orleans, was part of an Indigenous trade hub known as Bulbancha. We honor the Atakapa, Biloxi, Caddo, Chitimacha, Choctaw, Houma, Natchez, and Tunica Nations and other Native peoples who were forcibly removed from this territory. We take this opportunity to recognize and respect the many Indigenous peoples, in the past and present, who have nurtured and continue to maintain relationships with this land. We are thankful for the opportunity to explore and celebrate visibility in this space in the continuing effort to advance humanistic study in community and within communities to the benefit of all.
