Create a page for Albania and Tirana in Palatine German Wikipedia

@Danny Benjafield (WMDE) Hi Danny!

I am from Albania and I have a request. I have seen that you are native to German language. I think you may also understand Palatine German dialect. If yes, can you create two pages for Albania and Tirana, the capital city of Albania, in Palatine German Wiki, with short content? I would thank you so much. If you aren't native to this dialect, ask a person you may know, via the Wikipedia private message.

Hello everyone, a small change will soon be coming to the user-interface of your Wikimedia project. The Wikidata item sitelink currently found under the General section of the Tools sidebar menu will move into the In Other Projects section.

We would like the Wiki communities feedback so please let us know or ask questions on the Discussion page before we enable the change, which can take place October 4, circa 15:00 UTC+2. .

• Elemwala (এলেমওয়ালা) (https://elemwala.toolforge.org): is a proof-of-concept interface that allows you to input abstract content and get natural language text in a given output language. There may well be errors with particular inputs, and the text may not be quite as natural as you might expect, but that's where your improvements to your language's lexemes, other Wikidata items, and the tool's source code come in!

• Launch of WikiProject Deprecate P642: The goal of this project is to prepare for deprecation, and eventual removal, of the property of (P642). Currently, of (P642) is labeled as "being deprecated", meaning its use is still allowed, but discouraged. From a peak of around 900,000 uses, the property now has around 700,000 uses (see status here). Our goal is to reduce that as much as possible in a systematic way, while ensuring that appropriate properties exist to replace all valid uses of of (P642). Request re Commons descriptions

When a Commons file has descriptions in more than three languages, only the English description is displayed, while the remaining languages can be seen by using the drop-down menu, which is located right below the picture. Problem is that this is not obvious, as the menu and the descriptions are far apart. For the casual user it is very easy to miss completely that more language descriptions are available, when only the English is displayed. So I recommend: bring the language select menu and description box closer together in some way. The drop down menu must preferably be right inside the description box, in the pale purple area at the left, or even included in media viewers of all languages. Here is one such example, and note the Ndebele is still shown as "nr": 116320 jerusalem pater noster church PikiWiki Israel, isiNdebele and siSwati pair.jpg. I appreciate your reply! If "Phabricator ticket" means that the issue has been raised before, then I doubt it. Besides the latter, we are struggling on the Afrikaans wikipedia with some issues, and up to this point, did not know where to ask for help. It mostly concerns unavailable templates, or available templates that don't work. If you look at the cladograms on this page or this page for instance, you will notice that the black lines have disappeared, leaving us without the graphs. Some of these issues are simple, I think, but we did not have anyone to assist us. JMK (talk) 13:30, 29 October 2024 (UTC)

Tool of the week

• Wikidata One Click Info is a multilingual extension that enables you to search for any item or word that you come across while reading or browsing online. It's an extension that makes Wikidata's data easy to retrieve and access. Install on Chrome browser or Firefox browser. A short video about the usage of the extension.
• CAT🐈: most frequent properties a simple Observable tool which shows the most frequent properties for a set of Items.
• Are you able to learn languages with Wikidata content? In Ordia there is the "Guess Image from Pronunciation" game you can use to learn a few words from various languages.

• A small project on benchmarking query engine performance on useful Wikidata queries is asking for queries from the Wikidata user community to potentially be part of the benchmark. If you are a user of any Wikidata SPARQL service please send queries that you find useful to Peter F. Patel-Schneider. Say what you used the query for and whether you would like to be noted as the source of the query. Queries that take considerable time or time out are especially welcome, particularly if the query caused you to switch from the official Wikidata Query Service to some other service. Development

• Lua: We changed the Wikibase function getAllStatements logic to behave as getBestStatements. When invoked, it was returning mutable direct-values, now it will return a copy of those values (which are immutable). (phab:T270851)
• Wikibase REST API:
  • Wikibase REST API is now on version 1!
  • We've finished the work on the create Property endpoint so it is now possible to create Properties via the REST API.
• Configuration: We removed 'mainpage' from $wgForceUIMsgAsContentMsg for Wikidata as requested so translations of the main page are available (phab:T184386)
• mul language code: We moved it to the top of the termbox so labels and aliases in mul are visible first (phab:T371802)
• Revision table size: We are investigating the current state of the revision table of Wikidata's database and what the next steps should be to address its issues.
