- "The pearl-handled .38 that killed Anansi, Candace, and Pistol Pete Stokes. Ah... you didn't know about that one."
"I knew I should have tossed that gun, but Mariah was obsessed with it." - ―Misty Knight and Shades[src]
The Stokes' Revolver is Smith & Wesson Model 64 which was used by leaders of the Stokes Crime Family.
History[]
Attack on John McIver[]
- "Sorry, coconut. When you get to hell, tell Quincy that was for Buggy."
- ―Pistol Pete to John McIver[src]
As part of their attempts to wipe out the entire McIver family, the Stokes Crime Family sent Pistol Pete back to Jamaica to track down and assassinate John McIver. Pete soon found McIver selling fruit in Kingston and walked over to him, seemingly to buy fruit. However, as soon as Pete confirmed McIver's identity, he drew the Stokes' revolver and shot McIver twice in the stomach, before putting the revolver back into his belt and claiming the shooting was to avenge Buggy Stokes' death. However, McIver was able to survive the assassination attempt.[1]
Assassination of Pistol Pete[]
- "Cornell. I told you what to do. Stand up straight. And do it."
- ―Mama Mabel to Cottonmouth[src]
Once Mama Mabel learned that Pistol Pete had secretly been working with the Colon Crime Family and sold heroin in the streets of Harlem, she decided that this betrayal warranted his death. Having confronted Pete in the Stokes' Brownstone, Mabel had Cornell Stokes step out and hold Pete at gunpoint with the Stokes' Revolver, with Cornell clearly being nervous about the situation, as they forced Pete to step outside into the garden of the Brownstone to be shot.
Once outside, Mabel encouraged Cornell to pull the trigger and execute his uncle, despite Pete attempting to reason with Cornell, reminding him of how he had been supporting his efforts to have a career in music and to escape the Stokes Crime Family. However, they were then rejoined by Mariah Stokes, who confronted Pete over his sexual abuse of her, and also encouraged Cornell to shoot. With Pete demanding that Cornell look him in the eyes, Cornell shot Pete twice in the chest, killing him, as Mabel took the revolver from him and congratulated Cornell.[2]
Stokes' Show Piece[]
- "What are you doing with a gun? It's not you."
- ―Shades to Mariah Dillard[src]
Following the demise of Mama Mabel, the Stokes' Revolver was passed down to Cottonmouth, who became the head of the Stokes Crime Family, and kept the gun inside of a box in Harlem's Paradise. As his situation with Luke Cage was becoming more difficult to handle, Cottonmouth took the revolver out of his box, and held it against the mirror, which caused Cottonmouth to recall how he had shot and killed Pistol Pete, putting him on the journey to become a crime boss.[2]
With Cottonmouth being murdered by Mariah Dillard, she took possession of the Stokes' Revolver, keeping it inside the same box that Cottonmouth had, but bringing it to her Brownstone. When Dillard was considering what she should do about Diamondback, she took the revolver out of its box to examine it. Dillard was then reunited with Shades, whom she believed had been killed, with Shades questioning what she was doing with it, as he insisted that guns did not suit her, only for Dillard to simply demand that he shut up, while still holding the gun.[3]
Assassination of Candace Miller[]
In order to prevent Candace Miller from giving up valuable information about the death of Cottonmouth and risk Mariah Dillard being exposed and arrested, Shades decided that Miller needed to be assassinated. Having managed to steal Misty Knight's phone, Shades sent Miller and text and asked to meet her, pretending to be Knight. Once Miller was out in the open, Shades stepped behind her and shot Miller in the back of the head with the Stokes Revolver, before walking away.
With Miller dead, the New York City Police Department was unable to prove Dillard's involvement with Cottonmouth's death, and Knight was forced to release her from the 29th Precinct Police Station. Dillard was then collected by Alex Wesley and Shades, with Shades giving Stokes' Revolver back to Dillard, noting that it looked good in her hands. Miller's body would later be examined by the NYPD, and the bullet that killed her was identified as belonging to that model of revolver, although the NYPD were unaware of the Stokes' Revolver at this time.[4]
Rescue of Mariah Dillard[]
- "Mom, you have the money, what do you need a gun for?"
"A woman always needs a gun."
"The man leaves heads on pikes! Do you really think he's gonna be swayed by this gun?!" - ―Tilda Johnson and Mariah Dillard[src]
Knowing that Bushmaster was coming to kill her, Mariah Dillard returned to her Brownstone and met with Tilda Johnson, as they attempted to get the rest of her money and escape. Dillard also took the Stokes' Revolver, although Johnson questioned how useful this would be against Bushmaster. At that moment, Bushmaster kicked down the door, as Dillard shot him twice in the chest, only for Bushmaster to laugh it away and knock the revolver out of her hands, before he and the Stylers tied up Dillard and Johnson, before burning down the Brownstone.
While Dillard and Johnson were rescued by Luke Cage, the revolver was left inside the burning Brownstone.[5] The wreckage of the Brownstone was later visited by Dillard and Sugar, with Dillard desperately attempting to find the revolver in the wreak of her home, but eventually decided that it was hopeless. She was then rejoined by Shades, who offered Dillard advise on how they would fight back against Bushmaster, inspiring her not to give up. Once Dillard had gone, Shades had then revealed that he had already found the Stokes' Revolver, but instead decided to keep it.[6]
Massacre at Gwen's[]
- "Jesus, die already!"
- ―Mariah Dillard to Anansi[src]
With Shades having kidnapped Anansi and handed him over to Mariah Dillard to be questioned about Bushmaster's plans and location, they returned to Harlem's Paradise to discuss the situation. While Shades found Dillard overlooking Harlem's Paradise and thinking back on the history of the Stokes Crime Family, Shades gave her back the Revolver that he found in her Brownstone, admitting that he waited until he was certain that he could still trust her.
Dillard would bring the revolver with her, as she and her henchmen raided Bushmaster's family restaurant, Gwen's, and she had then proceeded to brutally massacre every single person who was inside, regardless of their innocence, including Stephanie Miller, much to the horror of Shades. As her final revenge against Bushmaster, Dillard poured Bushmaster Rum all over Anansi, and set him on fire, watching as he screamed in agony while his body burnt. Since Anansi took too long to die, Dillard drew her revolver and shot him in the chest, finally killing Anansi.[7]
Infiltration into Harlem's Paradise[]
- "He's here. Give me the gun and get behind me. I need you to listen to me. We got one shot at this dude. Now!"
- ―Shades to Mariah Stokes[src]
Having decided that he would betray Mariah Dillard in the wake of the Massacre at Gwen's, as he felt she was losing control, Shades was told to find the Stokes' Revolver and hand it over to the New York City Police Department, as it could tie Dillard to various murders. However, once Shades had arrived at Harlem's Paradise to meet with Dillard, she realized what was happening and took him to the basement, holding the revolver to his chest and exposing his betrayal.
Before Dillard could shoot Shades for betraying her, they had then realized that Bushmaster had arrived inside of Harlem's Paradise, as Shades convinced Dillard to give him the gun so he could attempt to kill Bushmaster before he got to them. Once Bushmaster had kicked down the door, Shades fired a shot at his eye, which he missed. Shades was then joined by Luke Cage and Misty Knight, as they all fought against Bushmaster, with Shades managing to reclaim the gun and shooting at Bushmaster again, only for him to be knocked down to the floor.
Eventually, Cage managed to overpower Bushmaster, but chose to allow him to escape rather than killing him. In the aftermath of the fight, Shades had then picked up the Stokes' Revolver and then handed it over to Knight, who then arrested Dillard in connection to the murders of Candace Miller and Pistol Pete, as well as Anansi who had been killed at the Massacre at Gwen's. Dillard then insisted that she would be able to get off the charges, while Priscilla Ridley took her into police custody, with Dillard cursing at Shades for betraying her and turning rat.[8]
