- "Get the third Quadrant ready for release."
- ―Yondu Udonta to Kraglin Obfonteri[src]
The third Quadrant is one of the detachable sectors of the Eclector. It was deployed in 2014 by Yondu Udonta to get himself, Rocket and Groot off of the Eclector after his clan had mutinied against him. Following the loss of the Milano and Udonta's death, the Guardians of the Galaxy used the Quadrant primarily before acquiring the Benatar.
History[]
Early History[]
The Yondu Ravager Clan used the Eclector, which included at least three Quadrants, to travel throughout the universe.[1]
Ravager Mutiny[]
Seperated from the Eclector[]
- "Release the Quadrant!"
- ―Yondu Udonta to Kraglin Obfonteri[src]
In 2014, after feeling sorry for the loss of his fellow Ravagers following Taserface's mutiny against Yondu Udonta, Kraglin Obfonteri decided to release his former captain, apologizing for the turn of events. In response, Udonta ordered Obfonteri to be ready to release the third Quadrant and to await him as well as Rocket and Groot.
Udonta, Rocket, and Groot escaped from their cell and killed most of the traitorous Ravagers, causing an explosion which set the Eclector on fire. Before the massive spaceship was blown up, they joined Kraglin in the Quadrant and released it from the Eclector as it exploded. Rocket then decided to rescue his friends and set course for Ego's Planet through 700 Jump Points, causing their bodies to disfigure temporarily due to the amount of jumping the ship performed.[2]
Used by the Guardians[]
Battle on Ego's Planet[]
- "Kraglin, we need the Quadrant for an extraction. T-minus five minutes."
- ―Yondu Udonta to Kraglin Obfonteri[src]
When they arrived on Ego's Planet, Kraglin Obfonteri stayed in the Quadrant while Yondu Udonta, Rocket and Groot went to rescue the Guardians of the Galaxy in the Laser Drill. However, while Kraglin was waiting for his teammates to return and leave Ego's planet, a fleet of Sovereign Omnicrafts approached the planet. Kraglin flew down to the planet to retrieve the Guardians and as he went to open the door, Drax the Destroyer took an unconscious Mantis to the ship. However, they were attacked by Ego who wrapped massive tentacles around the ship nearly turned it upside down. Fortunately, Kraglin activated the thrusters to balance the Quadrant and avoid crushing Drax and Mantis.
As the planet was about to explode, Gamora and Nebula joined the others on the ship, later followed by Rocket and Groot. As Star-Lord and Udonta were still on the planet, Gamora intended to find them, but Rocket rendered unconscious and ordered Obfonteri to take off before the blast. Udonta ultimately chose to sacrifice himself to save Quill, and both Quill and Udonta's body were brought to the Quadrant.[2]
Yondu Udonta's Funeral[]
Following the battle against Ego, the Guardians of the Galaxy held a funeral for Yondu Udonta on the Quadrant. After Peter Quill's eulogy, Udonta's body was cremated in the Quadrant's reactor, spreading colored ashes into outer space. The Quadrant was soon surrounded by spaceships from all other Ravager clans called by Rocket so that they could pay their respects to their late comrade.
Meanwhile, Nebula decided to find and kill her father. After bidding farewell with Gamora, she left the Quadrant on a spacecraft.[2]
Late-Night Dance Off[]
Later that year, Iwua, a shape-shifter, broke out of his containment jar and escaped, creating a loud sound. The sound woke Groot up, causing him to go investigate with a Wrist Watch. Eventually, Groot found Iwua, who copied his every move, frustrating Groot. Groot decided to engage in a dance-off, in which Iwua broke out of his copying and tried to teach Groot how to dance. Ultimately, Groot led Iwua to the airlock, and opened it up, sending Iwua out into space. Groot then continued to dance on his own.[3]
Family Portrait[]
Later, Groot decided to construct a portrait of the Guardians of the Galaxy, who were his family. He took Peter Quill’s childhood backpack and ripped a page out of a comic book that was in it. He then went into Rocket’s room and used scissors to take a piece of his tail fur off. After that, he snuck into the bathroom, where he took Drax the Destroyer’s soap bar, while Quill was in the shower. Groot grabbed an Anulax battery and constructed a mini explosive, that he used to produce glitter like particles. However, the explosion caused a hole in the floor, and Groot tried to fix it with duct tape. The explosion woke Rocket up, who came in to investigate, and chastised Groot, as the room was on fire and pipes had burst. Groot handed him his portrait, which Rocket was touched by and stated it should be put on the refrigerator. As he was noting his fur on it, the hole sucked him inside, but Groot saved him with his vines. Shortly after, the Guardians obtained the Benatar, which they used interchangeably with the Quadrant.[4]
Groot's Adolescence[]
- "Dude, seriously? You gotta clean up your room, it's a complete mess."
"I am Groot."
"I am not boring, you're boring." - ―Peter Quill and Groot[src]
By 2018, Groot had aged to an adolescent, and began spending his time using his handheld gaming console, playing Defender and thus, his room became messy. Peter Quill walked in and chastised Groot, telling him to clean his room. Groot rudely called Quill boring in response.[5]
