Biography[]
Early Life[]
Meeting Misty Knight[]
- "Misty was a year behind me at DeWitt Clinton. Both varsity. She took my spot when I twisted my knee."
"I earned my spot. And never gave it back." - ―Nandi Tyler and Misty Knight[src]
Nandi Tyler attended DeWitt Clinton High School, and was one year ahead of Misty Knight. They both played on the same varsity basketball team.[2] During a tournament in Philadelphia, Tyler and her teammate Tasha Bowles made a deal. Bowles stole and iPod and Tyler stole wallets. However, Tyler never stole the wallets, then proceeded to rat out Bowles so that she could be the best players. Karma got the best as Tyler twisted her knee, allowing Misty took her place on the team.[3]
Investigation of Dontrell Hamilton[]
Clashing with Misty Knight[]
Tyler got a job at the 29th Precinct Police Station following Misty Knight's forced absence when she lost an arm in the Excavation of Midland Circle. Months later, Knight returned and asked for her desk back, but Tyler refused to give it. She then told Knight that her career was over after her injury and she did not need to prove anything: everybody knows her as a hero.[2]
Cockroach Hamilton was released from prison because he was arrested by Rafael Scarfe, a dirty cop. Tyler and her partner, Mark Bailey, were assigned to investigate him. Hamilton was soon beaten to a pulp by Luke Cage for alleged domestic abuse. Tyler and Bailey visited him in the hospital to get a statement, but they found Knight already there. Tyler yelled at her for possibly screwing up their investigation.[4] Later, Tyler and Bailey were working when Tyler started singing. Bailey then brought up a video of Cage getting punched by a man named Bushmaster. The crew watched the video and Knight grew worried and scolded Tyler for singing when there were more important things at stake.[5] Tyler and Bailey further investigated by interrogating Mariah Dillard on the disappearance of Mark Higgins. However, Dillard claimed to know nothing about it.[6]
Changing Gears Towards Bushmaster[]
Piranha Jones' Death[]
Mark Higgins, Cockroach Hamilton, and Ray Ray's heads were found on posts. The murder was likely Bushmaster, so Tyler and Mark Bailey went to investigate.[7] They also got word that Misty Knight quit. Tyler gave her three days until she would return.[8] Suddenly, they were told that Misty Knight found Piranha Jones' severed head. They arrived and Bailey told Knight to leave. Tyler scolded her for keep investigating their cases. Knight talked back, telling her to go sing on The Voice. Tyler scolded Luke Cage, who was there with Knight. She claimed that the Stylers used Jones to lure Cage. The vigilante calmed everyone down.[7]
Tom Ridenhour's Death[]
Tyler later heard that Tom Ridenhour was shot, so she arrived to investigate.[7] She met Misty Knight there, who returned as expected. At the precinct, Tyler told Knight that she was highest in command now if she truly wanted to return. Knight took the job. Tyler and Mark Bailey then went to find evidence linking Mariah Dillard to Ridenhour's death. Just as Benjamin Donovan arrived to let Dillard out, Tyler found that Shades' car was close to the crime scene and told Knight. Knight then forced Shades to stay. Tyler searched for more evidence, but could not find any as there were no fingerprints. They had to let Shades go.
Tyler and Knight went to Harlem's Paradise to talk to Bushmaster and left with no altercation. Later, they arrived at Mother's Touch to talk to Tilda Johnson only to be ambushed by Stylers. They got away and Tyler called for backup. Luke Cage suggested that they call Danny Rand.[8]
Getting Greedy[]
Selling Out Dillard[]
Bushmaster put up a three million dollar bounty each on Mariah Dillard and Tilda Johnson's head. Tyler returned to the precinct to find that Priscilla Ridley was in charge. When Misty Knight arrived, she asked for a minute alone with Ridley. Curious, Tyler eavesdropped and overheard that Dillard wanted immunity. She then decided to go to Harlem's Paradise. Upon arrival, she asked Bushmaster if the bounty was still good. Hearing it was, she sold out the location of Dillard.[9]
Caught by Knight[]
Tyler took her money and set off to the airport. Right before getting on the plane, she was approached by the police. Misty Knight attempted to arrest her, but she punched Knight and ran. Knight chased her down and talked her. She was then arrested by her own partner, Mark Bailey. In the interrogation room, Knight and Tyler exchanged back and forths. Tyler talked about the team and Knight brought up Tasha Bowles and how she knew Tyler was planning to steal as well. Tyler talked about how bad Mariah Dillard was and Knight told her that Bushmaster was worse. However, Tyler still disagreed because all Bushmaster wanted was revenge against a monster. Tyler was then sent to prison.[3]
