Mortimer Toynbee was a mutant whose amphibian-like abilities earned him the name Toad. Having joined Cassandra Nova's Henchmen after being banished to the Void by the Time Variance Authority, he fought against Wolverine and Deadpool and captured them. However, when the Resistance, along with Deadpool and Wolverine, led one final assault at Nova’s Compound, Toad was killed by Blade in the ensuing battle.
Biography[]
Working for Cassandra Nova[]

Mortimer Toynbee was born a mutant with amphibian traits, most notably a prehensile tongue, which earned him the name Toad. Toad was banished to the Void, where he became one of Cassandra Nova's henchmen. While on a hunt, he, Pyro and Sabretooth came across a Minuteman and a bit later, Human Torch, Deadpool, and Wolverine. Upon Sabretooth's death at the hands of Wolverine, Pyro ordered Toad to capture them, so he used his tongue to turn on a giant magnet attached to the Canadarm, incapacitating Deadpool and Wolverine and attracting a Sentinel leg, knocking them out.

They brought the prisoners along with the Sentinel leg back to their compound, where Toad watched Nova greet them. However, when Alioth arrived, Deadpool and Wolverine escaped. When the Resistance commenced an ambush on the compound, Toad stood alongside the rest of Nova's henchmen and prepared for the fight. The two sides charged at each other, and Toad fought against Deadpool, who grabbed onto his tongue and used it to toss him away. He later fought against Blade, who grabbed onto his tongue and used it to strangle Toad as Blade repeatedly stabbed him to death.[2]
Personality[]
Toad did not like to talk much and had a no-nonsense attitude, as shown when he preferred to finish his work quickly. When Pyro tasked him with defeating and capturing Deadpool and Wolverine to Cassandra Nova, Toad did not choose to engage directly in combat with the two, nor did he taunt or provoke them verbally. He instead chose the most efficient and quick way of doing so, to activate a magnetic device connected to the Mag Truck which made quick work of the mutants.
