- "I'm from a small town called Gulmira. It's actually a nice place."
- ―Ho Yinsen to Tony Stark[src]
Gulmira, also called Gulmira City,[2] is a town in Afghanistan.
History[]
Battle of Gulmira[]
- "The fifteen miles hike to the outskirts of Gulmira can only be described as a 'descent into Hell' into a modern day heart of darkness. Simple farmers and herders from peaceful villages have been driven from their homes, displaced from their lands by warlords, emboldened by a newfound power. Villagers have been forced to take shelter in whatever ways that they can find."
- ―Amira Ahmed[src]
Gulmira, Ho Yinsen's home town, was attacked on several occasions by the Ten Rings, and during one of these attacks, Yinsen was captured and his family was killed.
A news report of the current terrorist attacks in Gulmira by Amira Ahmed inspired Stark to don his newest armor and travel to Afghanistan in order to defeat the terrorists. Stark attacked the terrorists in Gulmira without harming the human shields and civilians that had been taken as hostages, leaving his former captor Abu Bakaar to the "mercies" of the residents of Gulmira. Stark located more arsenals containing fully-armed Jericho missiles and destroyed them.[3]
Phil Coulson and Nick Fury, during their investigation surrounding the events of the Kidnapping of Tony Stark, immediately traveled to Gulmira to analyze Stark's role during his attack to the Ten Rings. They found footage recorded by the terrorist and intended to frighten civilians. The footage shows Stark in his armor defeating the terrorists.[4]
The following day, James Rhodes denied the involvement of the U.S. government in what he called an "unexpected turn of events" in Gulmira.[3]
Alternate Universes[]
Watched by Raza Hamidmi al-Wazar[]
In an alternate universe, Ho Yinsen lived in Gulmira until he was taken by the Ten Rings. Living there, he saw Stark Industries Fragmentation Shells get used many times. The village developed the nickname "the walking dead" for people who had been hit by one, since it took a week for the weapon to kill people.
Gulmira came to be under attack by the Ten Rings using Stark Industries weapons. Amira Ahmed reported from Gulmira as people were forced to flee their homes. Angry about the use of his weapons, Tony Stark threw a party in Dubai as a diversion and donned the Mark III Iron Man armor to fight the Ten Rings himself. Meanwhile, Ezil and his family hid from the Ten Rings in Gulmira, when they heard their dog, Arto, barking. Ezil went to retrieve Arto but got caught by Ten Rings operatives, who demanded he drop Arto. Ezil refused, and Stark arrived, saving the two of them. Stark fought the Ten Rings operatives as Raza Hamidmi al-Wazar watched, defeating the soldiers and destroying their weapons. People approached Stark, who explained that he was there to help before leaving to destroy the rest of the weapons. Al-Wazar then prepared to contact someone about the conflict. People cheered for Stark, who waved and then flew to return home.[5]
