"You owe me a plane, you know that, right?"
James Rhodes to Tony Stark[src]

The F-22 Raptor is a single-seat, twin-engine fifth-generation supermaneuverable fighter aircraft that uses stealth technology. It is mainly used by the United States Air Force.

History[]

Attacking Iron Man[]

An unknown aerial vehicle attacked members of the Ten Rings in Gulmira, so the two F-22 Raptors were sent to scan the area. However, the "bogey" was actually Tony Stark in a flying armored suit. During the chase in the sky, one of the Raptors was damaged, but Stark managed to save the pilot.[1]

Cleared from Los Angeles[]

As Iron Monger and Iron Man battled outside of Stark Industries Headquarters, James Rhodes made sure that the skies stayed cleared of F-22s who wanted to investigate.[1]

Used as Threats[]

"You're at 114 Solenski Plaza, 3rd floor. We have an F-22 exactly 8 miles out. Put the woman on the phone or I will blow up the block before you can make the lobby."
Phil Coulson to Georgi Luchkov[src]

Phil Coulson told Georgi Luchkov when he called on one of his thug's phones that there was an F-22 that would fire upon him if he did not allow Natasha Romanoff to talk to him when she was on a mission in Russia.[2]

Tony Stark called Vice President Rodriguez thinking he might be in danger, so Rodriguez told him that he was secure. When the conversation moved to President Matthew Ellis, Rodriguez said that he could have F-22s in the air if Air Force One had a hint of trouble.[3]

Alternate Universes[]

A.I.M. Operative Controller[]

In an alternate universe, Iron Man was discovered attacking several weapons caches, so the United States Air Force sent Whiplash 1 and Scott Campbell to confront him in F-22 Raptors. Stark refused to fight the soldiers, so he contacted the Air Force. However, in taking evasive maneuvers, Stark accidentally damaged Whiplash 1's Raptor, forcing him to use his parachute. However, the parachute was not working, so Stark activated it for him. Stark convinced James Rhodes to call off Campbell, who left with his Raptor.[4]

Custom Armor Test Flight Universe[]

While Iron Man was testing a custom Iron Man Armor, F-22 Raptors were sent out to attack him with missiles. However, Stark destroyed them.[5]

Capabilities[]

It was designed primarily as an air superiority fighter, but has additional capabilities that include ground attack, electronic warfare, and signals intelligence roles.
