"These are the lives Malick is saving, Kora. Not heroes, hitmen, who now owe their lives to him."
Phil Coulson to Kora[src]

Durant was a mercenary who became recruited by Nathaniel Malick, who was able to prevent Durant's demise through his altering of their timelines. Durant was then given Li's Inhuman power of summoning blades from nowhere, as he continued serving Malick. Once Durant was captured by S.H.I.E.L.D., he got a chance to kill Yo-Yo Rodriguez. As Durant failed, he was brought before Kora, who then proceeded to murder him.

Saved from Death[]

Working with Nathaniel Malick[]

"Take Durant here. Simple mercenary, just trying to earn a decent living. S.H.I.E.L.D. decided he worked for the wrong people. What did they do, Durant?"
"They shot down our plane."

Durant bringing John Garrett into Afterlife

Having been working as a mercenary, who was merely trying to earn the best living he could, Durant was saved from his impending death by Nathaniel Malick, who recruited him to join his team, having shown him how he would be killed once S.H.I.E.L.D. had shot down his plane. Durant had then helped Malick invade Afterlife, assisting him to capture all of the Inhumans who had resided there. Once Afterlife was secure, Durant had escorted Malick and John Garrett to the Time Stream, where Garrett saw his future.

While Garrett was shown his prime timeline's trajectory, Durant was taken into the other room by Grady, where he was hooked up to their machinery and then infused with the blood of Li. During the process, they had been joined by Malick and Garrett, with Malick explaining their process to Garrett, while noting that this was based on Daniel Whitehall's concepts. Malick addressed Durant, calling him more deserving of powers, as he explained that in his original timeline, Durant was a mercenary, who was killed by S.H.I.E.L.D. once they deemed him a threat.

While Kora had noted that Malick had saved Durant from the oppression of this other life, where S.H.I.E.L.D., the Inhumans and HYDRA had been committing horrors in the name of world order, Garrett questioned what kind of power Durant would be getting from Li. In response, Durant had demonstrated his new power, by conjuring a blade inside his hands, much to Garrett's amazement. Durant then remained seated, while Malick ordered Kora to use her powers to execute Li, claiming that Li was in pain from the experiment, as Kora obeyed his order.[2]

Attack on Afterlife[]

Durant capturing Phil Coulson and Gordon

"You don't know what you've gotten yourself into. Sibyl wants this planet for her Chronicoms."
"You hear that, Durant? I think he's giving us the old good guy pitch. Appealing to the better angels of my nature."
Phil Coulson and Nathaniel Malick[src]

Durant was present when Nathaniel Malick and several of his men ambushed Phil Coulson and Gordon, having been able to determine exactly when and where they would attempt to get into Afterlife, as Gordon was shot in the back with a Chronicom Rifle, in order to prevent him from teleporting away, while Coulson was taken into custody. Malick then ordered Durant and the others to take Gordon to be prepped, while he spoke with Coulson.

Durant then rejoined Malick, as they marched Coulson through Afterlife, with Coulson attempting to convince Malick that he was being manipulated by Sibyl and the Chronicoms, as Durant kept his rifle aimed at Coulson's back. While Malick commented to Durant that Coulson was clearly attempting to appeal to their better nature, Coulson insisted that he was merely trying to ensure that they did not die, noting that Wilfred Malick had also died while working with Sibyl, although Malick simply dismissed this, as Deke Shaw had killed his father.

Coulson meets Kora

As Malick informed Coulson that he would no longer be following his father's way of thinking, having turned his back on HYDRA, as they would turn to anarchy, Durant pushed Coulson into the next room, where they found John Garrett, who was having his blood infused with Gordon's, in order for him to be given Gordon's Inhuman power. Durant kept Coulson held up at gunpoint, while Coulson spoke with Garrett and Kora, with Coulson and Garrett discussing their lives from the previous timeline, which the Time Stream had allowed Garrett to view.

Durant stayed close by, as Garrett began being infused with Gordon's blood, while Coulson still attempted to convince Kora that it was a bad idea. Although Garrett briefly panicked and attempted to end the experiment, it proved to be a success, as Garrett teleported out of his chair and into the corridor, charging back inside the room and past Durant, excitedly commenting over his new power. While Malick questioned if Garrett would be able to teleport them both into the Lighthouse, Durant remained in the room, holding Coulson at gunpoint.

Durant was then ordered to stand guard outside of the room where all of their captured Inhumans were, while Malick and Garrett were still on their own mission inside of the Lighthouse. While he stood guard there, Durant had been confronted by Alphonso Mackenzie and Yo-Yo Rodriguez, with Rodriguez then calling out to Durant to distract him. Rather than use his rifle, Durant had then used his newly acquired Inhuman power to conjure his blade into his hand, as he proceeded to throw the blade at Rodriguez, intending to impale her in the chest.

However, Rodriguez had then proved herself to also be an Inhuman, as she then used her superhuman speed to catch the blade in mid-air, before she impaled it into Durant's leg. While Durant had reacted out of pain from being stabbed in the leg, Rodriguez had sped past him and inside the room, freeing all of the Inhumans, while Mackenzie then knocked Durant unconscious with a hit to the head. Durant and another captured member of their Crew were then taken onboard of the Quinjet, and brought to the Lighthouse to be held as prisoners.[2]

Captured by S.H.I.E.L.D.[]

With his injured leg now bandaged, Durant and another member of Nathaniel Malick's Crew were then taken to the Lighthouse to be held as prisoners by S.H.I.E.L.D.. However, while they were being marched through the corridors, Durant had then witnessed Quake furiously confronting Kora by throwing her against a wall with her shockwaves, until getting ordered to put her back down by Alphonso Mackenzie, while Durant had watched from the sidelines.

Durant had then witnessed Kora telling S.H.I.E.L.D. that she had come there to help them to save lives, if they agreed to make her an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.. While Kora was taken away to be questioned, Durant and the other crew member were escorted to their cells by Mackenzie and Yo-Yo Rodriguez, who removed their handcuffs and locked the door. Rodriguez then decided to stay behind, calling herself their babysitter, since they were unsure if Durant may have gained multiple Inhuman powers.

However, while Durant and the other crew member had been sitting inside their cells, they witnessed the power getting cut out throughout the entire base, due to Kora using her powers to overload all their systems, with the lights being shut down as a result. While they remained seated, Durant then noticed that Sibyl had been able to hack into their cell room doors, unlocking them, before Durant and his ally then quietly snuck out. Durant then conjured a blade in his hand, as he attempted to sneak up on the distracted Rodriguez and cut her throat.

However, Durant was too slow, as Rodriguez realized what was happening and used her incredible speed to grab the other crew member and launch him through the Lighthouse and back into the control room, before disarming Durant and doing the same to him. Holding Durant by the back of the neck, Rodriguez warned Phil Coulson and Melinda May about the locks, as Kora had stepped out, having had her own cell door unlocked by Sibyl. Kora then greeted Durant, noting S.H.I.E.L.D. had also assassinated him in their previous timeline.

Durant being blasted at and killed by Kora

As Rodriguez noted that Durant tried to cut her throat, he insisted that he had merely been following orders, as Coulson noted to Kora that it was men like Durant who Malick was actually interested in rescuing, since Malick had no interest in saving heroes. With Coulson insisting that they wanted Kora to stop helping Malick to disrupt the timeline, Kora then responded by firing a blast of her powerful energy straight through Durant's chest, which killed him instantly, as Kora claimed this death brought them back closer towards their original timeline.[1]
