- "You think you're gonna break me? Bring it on."
"Like I said, this is not an interrogation. I'm not here to break you. You've already done that yourself. The question is, how broken are you?" - ―Misty Knight and Gabe Krasner
DWYCK is the ninth episode of the first season of the television series Luke Cage.
Synopsis[]
With Luke wounded and on the run, Misty faces a soul-searching interrogation. Mariah's rise to power takes a dark turn.
Plot[]
A police psychologist is tasked to examine Misty Knight. Knight grows restless and annoyed at the questions and the purpose of the meeting. Krasner tries to understand what shook her to the point of getting physical with Claire Temple. She then gets flashbacks to when she was held at gun point by Willis Stryker. Knight talks about having "coffee" with Luke Cage. She then talks about why she decided to become a cop.
Cage wakes up in a garbage truck to find that the bullet shot by Stryker had pierced his skin. Meanwhile, Diamondback blames Shades for Cottonmouth's death and shoots one of his men. He then orders the men to go find the garbage truck. Cage walks into a laundromat and steals some clothes to hide his blood, but sees a wanted notice on the news for him.
Mariah Dillard visits the morgue to see Cottonmouth's body. She talks to the corpse as if he is still alive. Shades enters the room and tells her she made a choice that she can't come back from. Shades delivers the news that Diamondback is mad that Cage is alive and they need to find him.
Two cops see Cage walking in the street and identify him as a "black man." When they approach him, they ask for an ID. Cage, irritated, follows their orders. They realize he is a fugitive and try to arrest him, but he knocks out one and throws the other into their police car. He then steals the police car and drives away. Dillard meets Domingo Colon to try to get him to arrange a meeting. He originally declines, but then is convinced to comply.
Claire Temple does research on skin cells in a restaurant. She is sneaked up on by Cage who asks for her help. He convinces her to bring him to Noah Burstein, the person who originally gave Cage his powers. Meanwhile, Dillard is shown a video of Cage beating the officers. Alex Wesley tells her he feels bad that she is watching a video of the person who "killed" her cousin.
The inspector releases Knight after she finally breaks down about the Stryker confrontation. He tasks her to find Cage, who is getting driven by Temple to Burstein's house. Upon arrival, Temple asks Burstein about Carl Lucas. He tries to close the door, but stops when Temple says the experiment worked. Temple explains that the bullets exploded inside of him and gives Burstein a hard drive containing information about Cage's condition from Reva Connors. Cage starts coughing up blood, which prompts them to bring him to the barn. Burstein can't get a blood sample through the skin, so he gets one by sticking a needle into Cage's mouth.
Stryker interrupts Dillard's meeting with the crime bosses, killing all of them except Colon. She tells Stryker that the video of Cage attacking the policemen has made him an enemy of the city; and Stryker can now sell the Judas Bullets to NYPD. Burstein runs out of ideas in order to save Cage. His only option is to dip Cage inside acid, hoping that it will soften his skin, giving the former the chance to remove the shrapnel. However, the pain of the procedure causes Cage to go into cardiac arrest.
