- "What's the penalty for a highly-decorated field officer abandoning his mission? You and Dox, I don't buy it."
"Okay. Look, I swear, okay? I went down there, and I went to get my life, okay? Because... none of this is real."
"Well, if none of this is real, I guess you aren't either." - ―Loki and Brad Wolfe
Breaking Brad is the second episode of the second season of Loki.
Synopsis[]
With the TVA on the verge of a temporal meltdown, Loki & Mobius will stop at nothing to find Sylvie.
Plot[]
Loki and Mobius M. Mobius travel to 1977 London to find Hunter X-05, who was on the hunt for Sylvie Laufeydottir, but went AWOL. They find X-05 abandoning his mission and living on the Sacred Timeline as a movie actor Brad Wolfe. Seeing them, X-05 tries to escape, but Loki, Mobius and Hunter B-15 catch him and detain him at the Time Variance Authority Office. They bring Ouroboros his modified TemPad, but he is too occupied with stabilizing the Temporal Loom.
While Loki and Mobius were trying to figure out what was the deal with X-05's TemPad, Casey informs them that he accessed Ravonna Renslayer's TemPad history and found out that she is getting help from Miss Minutes. Loki also tells them that when he was in the past, he found out that Renslayer was a close partner of He Who Remains. While the search for Renslayer was still going, Casey notices X-05's TemPad and concludes that he did not block the tracking, so Loki, Mobius and B-15 go to interrogate X-05.
X-05 refuses to tell them anything, while getting under the skin of both Loki and Mobius. Both of them go to the cafeteria to talk, during which Mobius tells Loki that unlike X-05, he has no intention to see what was his life before the TVA. Eventually, using Gizmo and some of his trickery, Loki pressures X-05 into admitting that he found Sylvie and that she made herself a new life on a branching timeline.
Meanwhile, Ouroboros works on stabilizing the Temporal Loom, but finds out that he has no access to the blast doors, so a temporal meltdown is imminent. He tells B-15 and Casey that only the creator of the system can lift the containment with a live scan of their temporal aura, and that person is He Who Remains. However, now that he is dead, their only option is to somehow get Miss Minutes to override the system lock.
X-05 reluctantly leads Loki and Mobius to a timeline where Sylvie worked at a McDonald's in Broxton, Oklahoma. Loki tells Sylvie that he witnessed the disaster of TVA in the future and saw Sylvie there, asking her to explain what he saw. Sylvie, however, says that she does not know anything and does not want to have anything to do with TVA anymore. Loki tries to explain that the TVA is their only defense against the He Who Remains variants, but Sylvie refuses to listen.
Mobius notices that X-05 acts suspiciously nervous and forces him to admit that they were all in danger. Sylvie enchants X-05 and finds out that Dox and her loyalists are planning to prune all branching timelines. As Dox's plans were put in motion, Loki and Sylvie attack the loyalists, while Casey and Ouroboros try to disarm the Reset Charges. However, as the loyalists are detained by the TVA, Loki, Mobius and Sylvie go to the TVA office where they realize that Dox succeeded and pruned a massive amount of branching timelines. As they are horrified by the countless casualties that Dox caused, Sylvie tells Loki that the TVA is the problem, before returning to her timeline, where she studies He Who Remains' TemPad.
