- "A Deviant!"
"You said you killed them all!" - ―Dane Whitman and Sprite[src]
The Attack on Sersi and Sprite was an attack in London where Kro attacked Sersi, Sprite and Dane Whitman.
Background[]
As part of Arishem the Judge's design to create new Celestials, Deviants were sent to Earth in an attempt to ensure the emergence of intelligent life. However, the Deviants evolved to become predators themselves, thus threatening the increase of the human population, forcing Arishem to sent Eternals to hunt down the Deviants. Most of the Deviants were exterminated by the Eternals, but some of them, including Kro, actually became frozen in Alaska. They were then released from the ice as the Earth was warming up after the Blip, and were used by Ikaris to ensure the death of Ajak so she would not prevent the Emergence of Tiamut the Communicator.
During the attack, Kro absorbed Ajak's powers and began to lead his Deviant pack on a rampage to kill the other Eternals, who had taken residence in various points of Earth. Among his first targets were Sersi and Sprite, two Eternals residing in London, where Sersi had begun a relationship with Dane Whitman.[2]
Attack[]
Kro began his attack by the river, emerging from the water as Sersi, Sprite and Dane Whitman were casually walking on the edge of the river. As Kro jumped out of the wate, Sersi used her powers to soften the surface of the sidewalk, causing Kro to get trapped in it, before freezing it so that Kro would be immobilized. Sersi then climbed up a bridge to lure Kro away from Whitman, as the Deviant was able to break free and followed Sersi, with Sprite quickly running to Sersi's aid. Sprite then used her powers to cast multiple illusions of Sersi and herself, leaving Kro confused as he initially could not find the real ones.
As Whitman arrived as well and instructed the civilians to flee, Kro was eventually able to sense the real Sprite and attacked her with a tentacle, causing her to trip and fall. However, before he could kill her, Ikaris intervened by flying right onto Kro, violently projecting him into a tattoo store. Ikaris then attacked Kro with his optical beams, leaving him injured. This was not enough to incapacitate Kro, who attacked Ikaris, throwing him and himself against an approaching bus. As the vehicle was thrown into the air, Sersi used her powers to turn it into a massive stream of flower petals to prevent anyone from being injured.
Ikaris kept attacking Kro, seriously wounding him in the arms, but the Eternals were then shocked to see that Kro was able to regenerate himself. Kro once again attempted to attack the Eternals, but he was eventually forced to retreat as Ikaris retaliated. The Deviant thus jumped into the river and escaped.[2]
Aftermath[]
Now unable to conceal her true nature any longer after they left the scene of the battle thanks to Sprite's illusions, Sersi decided to explain to Dane Whitman who she and the other Eternals truly were. She notably explained how they had come from the planet Olympia 7,000 years ago. Afterwards, Sersi, Ikaris and Sprite all took notice that Kro had healing abilities. They thus decided to regroup with their former spiritual leader, Ajak, to check on her and look for her counsel, as Sersi and Sprite did not know that Ikaris had caused her death. The three Eternals thus journeyed to South Dakota, leaving Dane Whitman in London.[2]
