- "Weight? Is that what I'm putting on you?"
"Yes! You and Dad! It's- it's like you're afraid if-if I don't do everything just right, perfect, you're gonna lose me."
"Oh, baby, I wish it were that easy. I'm afraid that even if you do everything perfectly, I'm gonna lose you." - ―Adina Johnson and Tyrone Johnson[src]
Adina Johnson is an external consultant of community relations at the Roxxon Corporation. She is the wife of Otis Johnson and the mother of Billy and Tyrone Johnson. Devastated by the loss of her oldest son, she was able to put her life and her family's back on the right tracks, but lived in constant fear that she would lose her second son as well, and tended to be overprotective of him. Once Tyrone was forced to flee to escape arrest by the NOPD, Johnson tried to find a way to clear his name. Johnson eventually got an opportunity to find closure as James Connors, the murderer of her oldest son, was brought to her. Johnson interrogated him to know all the details on how his death was covered up. However, she found herself unable to forgive Connors and ended murdering him. She then requested help from Francis Xavier Delgado to hide her crime and reveal the truth behind the death of Billy.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
As she lived in New Orleans, Adina met and fell in love with a man named Otis Johnson. She married him and gave birth to two children, Billy and Tyrone, the latter being named in honor of her grandfather.[1] She was an active woman and worked for Roxxon Corporation as a consultant in charge of external community relationships.[2]
In 2009, Adina faced the loss of her oldest son, Billy. Although Billy had actually been killed by NOPD officer James Connors, something Tyrone witnessed, Adina was told by the New Orleans Police Department that her son had simply drowned after using drugs. Upon being told the news, Adina and Otis were devastated.[1]
For years, Adina was traumatized by the loss of Billy, to the point that she even refused to commemorate his death, much to Tyrone's chagrin.[2] Moreover, she became extremely protective of Tyrone, as she feared for his life due to him maintaining his version that Billy had been killed by a police officer. Adina was aware that Tyrone would always be in danger in part because of his origins, and feared that he could lose his life even if he behaved as the perfect son she wanted him to be. She went at great lengths to ensure a bright future to him, having him attend classes at St. Sebastian's Preparatory School and encouraging him to play in the school basketball team.[1]
Fear of Losing Tyrone[]
- "If you were telling the truth, then that meant a cop murdered a teenage boy and covered up the crime. And the only way to do that means that he had help doing it. A lot of help. And that cops gets nervous and he decides he needs to tie up loosehands, what happens to that little boy, who's the only living witness to what he did?"
"I wasn't afraid of him."
"Well that's a luxury that you had. But your father and I could not afford that luxury. We had to be afraid. Because you alive or you dead, it meant nothing to them. It still doesn't." - ―Adina Johnson and Tyrone Johnson[src]
During her son Tyrone's teenage years, Adina would occasionally attend his basketball games. During a game against Chatsworth High School, she saw Tyrone losing his nerves against another player who kept pushing and hitting him, causing Tyrone to bet him up. Adina watched in disappointment as his son was contained by other players and the referee. Once back at home, she immediately instructed Tyrone to go to his bedroom. She later argued with her husband Otis over what their son had done.
In the next day, Adina was told by St. Sebastian's Preparatory School that her son had missed classes. She thus went in his bedroom to confront him, but Tyrone retorted that she was putting to much of a burden on him by being overprotective and wanting him to be perfect so she would not lose him. Adina insisted that she would fear for Tyrone even if he was perfect and that she did not want to lose him as she had lost Billy. She then made him promise he would not miss school again.[1]
Now reassured about her son, Adina was able to focus on her work, especially after she had to deal with the unexpected leak of a press release. She was on the phone for a good amount of time while her husband gave Tyrone some pep talk. Adina remained very nervous and, while her family was away, upon hearing strange noises and suspecting that there were animals around her house, she retrieved a handgun and went with it outside, but did not fire it.
As the night came, Adina saw Tyrone return from basketball practice. As he asked her what made her hold together, she explained that she had suffered a lot and that she was able to move on by focusing on the work she did for the community. She then leaned to kiss Tyrone on the forehead, but by doing so she exposed herself to Tyrone's newfound ability of reading through people's fears, showing him how Adina was terrified at the prospect of losing him and still traumatized by the loss of Billy. Although Adina had no recollection of the incident, this left her extremely tired and she fell asleep on the couch as her son covered her with a blanket.[3]
Adina resumed the normal course of her life, dedicating herself to work while still making sure that the interests of the community were taken into account by Roxxon Corporation.[4] However, in a morning, she noticed that Tyrone was once again distant, refusing to share breakfast with her and Otis. However, in the next days, situation seemed to have improved after Otis had taken Tyrone to meet the Wild Red Hawks, with Adina discovering that Tyrone had cooked breakfast for her and Otis.[5]
Adina continued to work for Roxxon Corporation, helping to organize a party for Peter Scarborough, which she did not plan on attending since she wanted to be there for Tyrone as he was to have a finals basketball game with his team. Noticing Tyrone watching a picture of Billy, Adina insisted that Billy would have been very proud of him and hugged Tyrone to show him that she felt the same. She then mentioned how Billy's former friend Duane Porter had been successful in his life as the owner of Buildwell Wood Shop. In the night, Adina and Otis went to watch the game, which was lost by St. Sebastian after Tyrone figured out that it was being rigged.[6]
On the day of the anniversary of Billy's death, which Adina did not plan on commemorating, she was asked by Otis whether she would agree to have the Wild Red Hawks to come over to the Johnson Residence. Although she was reluctant due to how busy she would be on that day, she accepted. Adina then went to check on Tyrone as he had been unexpectedly visited by Tandy Bowen, who explained that her father had died on the same night as Billy. Unbeknownst to Adina, Bowen had also come to their house to steal her Roxxon Corporation access badge.[2]
In the next day, Adina and her family were summoned by NOPD chief Duchamp, who explained that Detective Brigid O'Reilly had been able to provide evidence that James Connors was responsible of Bill'ys death, as Tyrone had always explained. Adina thanked Duchamp for letting them know, but then had to face Tyrone's anger as he did not understand why his parents seemingly barely reacted to this turn of events. Adina remained shaken by the reveal, which affected her work as she was shown to be angry towards her coworkers.[7]
Family Apart[]
As the night came and her son Tyrone returned home, Adina was waiting for him and, now that she had calmed down, declared that she was willing to answer all his questions. Adina explained that she had been willing to believe Tyrone's version that Billy had been killed by James Connors, but that this would have meant that Tyrone would have been in grave danger as a witness of this crime. Adina insisted that Tyrone was still in danger after getting Connors' confession, especially because of racial prejudices, and that she still feared for him, stating that he had to move on.
This did not kept Adina from complimenting Tyrone for his strength and his determination, admitting that it was both inspiring and frightening to her. However, their conversation was brutally interrupted as NOPD officers suddenly surrounded the house, claiming that they were her to arrest Tyrone who was accused of having murdered officer Kenneth Fuchs. Adina thus ordered Tyrone to flee from the house for his own safety.[7] Adina then quickly called her husband to tell him about this.
In the aftermath of the Outbreak in New Orleans, Adina was visited by NOPD officers who were investigating on Tyrone's disappearance after he had been arrested and briefly detained. As the officers talked with Otis, Adina heard a noise coming from Tyrone's bedroom and went to check on it. She found out that some of Tyrone's clothes were missing, showing that Tyrone was still alive, albeit on the run, giving Adina some relief regarding her son.[8]
Adina's relationship with Otis did not resist Tyrone's sudden departure from her life, and as a result she was separated from her husband, who was sheltered by friends from the Wild Red Hawks while Adina kept living in the Johnson Residence. She buried herself under work, unaware that on occasions her son would be watching her from afar to make sure she was all right.[9]
Gang Threat[]
- "What's your mama's name? I grew up just the other side of Frenchman Street, maybe I knew her. Even if I didn't, I don't think she'd be real proud of what you're doin' right now. You want to be a big man, you come at me. My son hasn't had a chance to live. Not for a long while. Now, maybe not like you, but he's trying to make his way, and I want to see him grow up. Go to prom. Get a job. Get married. You want that stuff, too, right?"
- ―Adina Johnson to Solomon[src]
As she was reviewing documents linked to Billy's death and investigating on who could have covered it up, already correctly suspecting Senator Asa Henderson, Adina heard a strange noise in her house. She picked up her gun and prepared to face an intruder, who turned out to be none other than her son Tyrone. Adina was thus warned that members of the Uptown Block Kings were on their way to the house since they wanted revenge on Tyrone.
Urged by her son to flee from the house, Adina insisted on hiding all her documents first. As the gang members approached, she was instructed by Tyrone to remain close to him as he attempted to teleport away, unaware that his powers were temporarily blocked. Adina, who was not aware of her son's abilities, did not understand what he was trying to do and made him leave the house through the backdoor, activating the intruder alarm on her way out to alert the NOPD. She then managed to steal a car, much to her son's surprise.
As they drove, Adina blamed Tyrone for having remained in New Orleans despite being wanted by the NOPD. Since they approached a police roadblock, they were forced to leave the car, and ran to a bus after a police officer spotted them. Once on the bus, Adina explained to Tyrone that she had been trying to find a way to clear his name. They were, however, forced to get off the bus as Tyrone noticed the presence of Solomon, a member of the Uptown Block Kings. In order to find a place to hide, Adina was taken by her son to the abandoned Clemence Convent.
While hiding, Adina listened to Tyrone as he explained the history of the place, which he knew from his former girlfriend Evita Fusilier. Adina then mentioned Tandy Bowen and how distrusted her, suspecting her of having stolen her badge. The conversation was then interrupted as they were found by Solomon who threatened them with a gun. Noticing how afraid Solomon was, Adina chose to confront him herself, distracting him long enough for Tyrone to take his weapon.
However, due to more gang members arriving, Adina offered to distract them to allow Tyrone to escape, but he refused. Instead, he contacted Brigid O'Reilly so that the NOPD could converge to the convent. Adina feared that her son would get killed by the police, but was convinced by Tyrone to go with O'Reilly before the police raided the place. Adina was then restrained and taken away by the officers as she tried to warn her son that the police entered the convent.[10]
Interrogation of James Connors[]
- "We're gonna talk. And we'll see. We'll see if your value to Tyrone outweighs the need for me to end your life for what you did to Billy."
- ―Adina Johnson to James Connors[src]
Having returned home, Adina was able to continue her investigation in order to clear her son Tyrone's name. She was unexpectedly given a chance at success and closure when Tyrone came back to her house and brought with him James Connors, who had recently escaped from the Dark Dimension where he had been trapped and sought to make amends for his past crimes.[11] Adina thus had him strapped to a chair and held him captive, with the intent of interrogating him, explaining that she was torn between her wish to use his return to clear Tyrone's name and her desire to kill him in revenge.
Declaring that she needed to cook in order to keep her head straight, Adina kept Connors in her kitchen and proceeded to question him about how his killing of her son Billy had been covered up with help of Senator Asa Henderson, Connors' uncle. Connors' detailed story was however interrupted by the arrival of Adina's husband Otis, who wanted to warn her of Connors' return as he did not know she was already aware of it. Upon Otis seeing the captive Connors, Adina and Otis began to argue, causing Otis to angrily leave.
Adina kept interrogating Connors until she arrived at the most sensitive aspect to her: the location of Billy's corpse. Adina declared that she did not trust Connors a single bit and, as she began to break down, expressed her disgust at Connors for representing a corrupt system that forced Adina and her kin to live in fear and feel powerless. She then once again demanded to know where Billy's body had been hidden so that she could give him a proper burial. As Connors revealed that he had buried it near a ferris wheel, Adina regained her composure and thanked Connors before continuing to cook, putting two plates on the table.[12]
Despite Connors having told everything he knew and expressing genuine regret, Adina found herself unable to forgive him. Therefore, she untied him and lured him into the house's bathroom, which she had covered in plastic. She then aimed her gun at him as he helplessly looked back at her and shot him twice, killing him. With Connors dead and Adina being in possession of his confession and several other documents, she decided to entrust him to someone who would not have to disclose the source of the information: Francis Xavier Delgado.
Adina thus went to the Irish Channel Sober Living Center, where Delgado was undergoing rehab. She explained that she needed him to disclose everything she had found out in order to save Tyrone. Although he was reluctant and claimed that he was no longer a priest, Adina was able to rekindle his faith, underlining that Tyrone needed his help. She then agreed to confess to him in order for her secret to be protected, and admitted that she had killed Connors. As Delgado was shocked and wondered whether she had manipulated him, Adina reminded him of his duty and left, stating that Delgado had served his purpose to her.[13]
Closure[]
Adina returned home, and destroyed the evidence of James Connors' murder. As she burnt pieces of newspaper covered in Connors' blood, she was called by her son Tyrone, who asked her about Connors. Adina lied to Tyrone, pretending that he was still answering her questions and that he was not a problem. Adina was unaware, however, that Tyrone was secretly watching her and knew that she was hiding the truth from him.[14]
As the evidence entrusted to Francis Xavier Delgado were relayed to the press, leading to the arrest of Senator Asa Henderson, Adina watched a TV newsflash alongside her husband Otis, with whom she was finally reunited, hoping that her son's name would soon be fully cleared.[15]
Personality[]
- "We're not the first to suffer, and we won't be the last. You're probably too young to remember any of this, but a while back, I wasn't together by any definition. But after some time, came to a conclusion."
"What was that?"
"I had to put it away. All the anxiety, all of the guilt. If I couldn't, then I'd turn it into something positive." - ―Adina Johnson and Tyrone Johnson[src]
Johnson was a strong woman and was acutely aware of the world she lived in, knowing that she and her family were to suffer from race prejudices during their whole life. Although she appeared as confident and successful, she had a deep-seated fear of the authorities and expressed disgust for the system, which she knew was corrupt and unchangeable, although she was dedicated to change it at her own level through her work for the community. According to her husband, it was Johnson who found the strength to move on after their oldest son was killed and put their family back on the right tracks. As a result of this loss, Johnson tended to be overprotective towards her second son, but insisted that she feared of losing him as well, all the while underlining that she admired his determination and found inspiration in him.
Although she had been able to move on, Johnson remained heavily affected by the death of her son. When she was given the opportunity to confront her son's murderer, she outright admitted that she felt the desire to kill him in revenge, but gave him a chance to express his guilt and regret. Nevertheless, Johnson eventually was unable to forgive him and murdered him, showing a hard side that her family had barely seen until then.

- Thief: Johnson was shown to be able to break into a car and start it without the key in a matter of seconds, a feat that left her own son extremely surprised.
Equipment[]
Weapons[]
- "What, are you just walking around with a gun now?"
- ―Tyrone Johnson to Adina Johnson[src]
- Ruger GP100: Johnson owned this revolver, but it was taken by her son in order to attack James Connors. Months later, Johnson took her revolver when she heard noises inside her house, but she quickly left it when she realized it was actually her son Tyrone. She used the same weapon to kill James Connors after obtaining the information needed to clear her son's name.
Facilities[]
- Johnson Residence: Johnson lived in this wealthy residence in New Orleans with her family. Once her son was forced to flee from the NOPD, she lived alone in the house for a time after she and her husband were separated. Johnson had a secret safe in this house where she hid a gun as well as documents related to the death of her firstborn son.
