The Delta Flight (Δ(デルタ) 小(しょう)隊(たい), Deruta Shōtai) is the titular Variable Fighter Flight of the Macross Δ television series and its theatrical adaptations, Macross Δ Movie: Passionate Walküre and Macross Δ Movie: Absolute Live!!!!!!.

Background

Delta Flight is a private military unit working under Chaos. It consists of six VF-31 Siegfried units, each with their corresponding aircrews and ground staff. They are part of the Third Fighter Wing of Chaos, Ragna, and serve aboard the SDF/C-108 Macross Elysion, a vessel under the command of Captain Ernest Johnson.

Their primary function is to provide protection for the tactical sound unit Walküre. In some venues, they occassionally perform sideshow acts like aerial stunts and even as special backup dancers with their Seigfried units in Battroid mode.

Notes & Trivia

• Although "小隊" is commonly translated as "Platoon", in the context of aviation, it's properly translated as "Flight".
• According to the official English subtitles available on the Macross Delta DVDs and Blu-rays, as well as licensed merchandise, it is identified as "Delta Flight".
• In Absolute Live!!!!!!, the Aerial Knights leader Bogue Con-Vaart became a temporary member of Delta Flight under the call sign "Delta 6".
