Gostir was the name of one of the dragons of Morgoth, about whom very little is told.[1]
Gostir possessed a dragon-name[1] which had evolved from the older name Gorsthir.[2]
Etymology[]
Gostir is a Ñoldorin name meaning "dread-glance", containing the elements gost ("dread, terror")[1] and thîr ("look, face, expression, countenance"), as well as the root thē, meaning "look (see or seem)".[2]
In adaptations[]
Middle-earth Role Playing[]
Gostir appears as a white Cold-drake with red eyes who dwells north of Rhûn in Barl Syrnac in the Creatures of Middle-earth supplement of Middle-earth Role Playing. Gostir was said to be the older brother of Lhamthanc.
