Tirharad was a village of Men located in west-central Mordor[1], then referred to as the Southlands, in the Second Age. It lay east of the Ephel Dúath, close to Ostirith and Hordern.

The village's inhabitants were divided by the emergence of Adar; some leaving to join him and others opposing him. Many were slain when Adar sent those who had joined him to attack the remainder. Though a small force of Númenóreans rescued the faithful villagers, the village was destroyed shortly thereafter by Orodruin's eruption.

Inhabitants[]

Etymology[]

The name Tirharad appears to be comprised of the Sindarin words tir, meaning "watch", and harad, meaning "south".

Behind the scenes[]

This location is non-canonical, as it does not appear in the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien - it was invented for the series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
